Dell E Slim with NON-glossy panel

Monitors and Displays submitted by happymaster23 Jun 15

I have falled in love to new Dell E lineup and Dell E Slim specially. This product looks superb, with no badness, but I found one - this is glossy panel. I hate glossy panels, so Dell please make customization selection between glossy or non-glossy.

LED Backlit Displays for Higher Resolutions for XPS M1530

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by whitefrost May 14

The release of the LED backlit 1440 x 900 display is great, but needs to be expanded to higher resolutions most notably the 1680 x 1050 resolution which a large number of people use and are most comfortable with. It would not be a threat to the M1730 as you can keep the LED Full HD 1920 x 1200 for it alone. 5 Comments »

Please stop using cheap LCD panels on your flagship XPS laptop line.

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by tcpaulh Jun 3

Please stop using cheap LCD panels on your flagship XPS laptop line.

For example the M1530 although specified with 90-100 degree vertical viewing angles, the reality is that there is at best a 15-20 degree vertical viewing angle before colour inversion occurs.

Vertical viewing angles at present do not appear to conform to stated specifications!

Dell have been promising better viewing angles since 2002 with Ultrasharp screens but these screens are still not available across the XPS line of laptops.

Please sort it out Dell and stop using the cheapest screen technology in your premium products.

Thank you. 9 Comments »

Dell Ultrasharp monitors

Gaming, Monitors and Displays submitted by gamer128 Yesterday

Could Dell make a monitor, that is specifically designed for gaming? And support consoles? And isn't very expensive? Because most HDTV's don't have very sharp quality, and those that do, are very expensive. 2 Comments »

please inform customers about screen resolution

Monitors and Displays submitted by ninjagecko Jul 2

Unfortunately many customers still think "larger screen" = "I can see more".

This is not true, and is a fault of the computer industry not taking the time to better-inform the customer. Dell can be a leader in this area.

Customers do not realize that large screens of 1024x768 resolution are as bad as small screens with the same resolution (exception: people who are nearsighted).

Please allow 1) searching for laptops/computers by screen resolution, 2) links in many places educating customers about screen resolution.

Please also allow people to specify the resolution of their monitors, to at least as high as UXGA. Laptops can come default with a low/high resolution and if the customer decides they want a different resolution, they can see the price change associated with it, and decide if it's worth it. 1 Comment »

small LCD panels at a reasonable cost

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas, Servers and Storage, Small Business, XPS products, Vostro products, Precision Workstations, OptiPlex products submitted by undead999 2 days ago

I dont really need 2 monitors attached to my system full time, nor do i have desk space. A small LCD that is 10 or 12 inches could be usefull as a secondary monitor for keeping status of my server(s), game server while i'm gaming, monitoring email up, system perfromance and so on. While not being used as a secondary display it could act as a stand alone photo frame, maybe even have a wall mount.

I work in I.T. so i can see a lot of other uses beyobd the desktop. It would also be usefull as a prtable screen that can easily be taken into the server room if remote access is failing. taking to a deskside or to a customers site to troubleshoot video probelms without having to buy a replacement monitor before troubleshooting.

I know there are a few product s on the market that fille this need, but they are pricey compared to a basic 17" or 19" LCD, one is made my coby, which retails fro more than a basic 19" dell widescreen, I dont associate quality to coby products.

This would be sold as an option and/or accessory , not as standard equipment. Comment »

Double Sided Monitors

Monitors and Displays submitted by nicole112707 3 days ago

What if you had a double sided Monitor? This would be great solution for schools that have computer rooms seating 2 people to a desk/table facing each other, or even an office environment with partner desks. You could still have the flexibility to raise/lower your screen, or tilt back and forth. This would be attractive to consumers trying to cut down on the price of purchasing multiple monitors at one time. Even the consumer that only sits one to a desk could use the option to show what they are doing to someone sitting across from them. I don't know how many times I’ve been in my boss’s office and he had to turn his monitor around to show me something. Or, maybe you can put a slide show on it... it would be a lot more attractive to look at pictures than the back of ones monitor.... just a thought! 3 Comments »

Graphics upgrade for Studio 15

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by extortioner Jul 1

The Studio 15 concept is great, and is superb for the space between the Inspirons and the XPS, but there's only 1 problem: Graphic cards!

Even the 15xx series of the Inspirons have the Geforce 8400 as an option, and the Studio 15 get a Radeon with the almost the same graphical power as an onboard Intel X3000 (OK, maybe that's a bit exaggerated).

I'm a huge fan of Dell and the new Studio line, but the only thing missing from making it a big hit is a graphics upgrade (that and they should ve waited for Montevina, but that's just a matter of opinion).

Please Dell: Give us Nvidia options with some power for the Studio 15 line. 3 Comments »

Availability of LED LCD SCREENS in FRANCE and EUROPE

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by mdevoucoux May 17

I've alrady posted this idea but it wasn't very explicit :

LED Screens are available in US on the XPS M1530, but they're not in Europe.

Here in Europe we'd like to order a Dell XPS M1530 with an LED screen, given the benefits it provides compared to CCFL screens. Thousands customers expect an LED display is available for this model to order the computer.

DELL: you lose customers beacause LED Screen isn't available on the XPS M1530. I find it unfortunate that in Europe we can not choose the same components as the USA.

I appeal to DELL: Please, make LED screens available in Europe for the XPS M1530, we expect that to order them.

Please DELL users, promote my idea because DELL do as if we, European customers doesn't exist and let Led creens available only in the USA : you, americans and others people, be helpful with us.

Thanks 48 Comments »

Matte (NOT TrueLife) Display on XPS m1330

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by mw 06/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

The XPS m1330 seems to be the perfect machine, aside from a few imperfections (no Gigabit Ethernet, for example). However, there is one feature that is an absolute dealbreaker for me--the glossy TrueLife screen. I remember the day before the shiny screens, and what a beautiful day that was.

If the XPS m1330 were available with a matte option (along with LED backlighting, of course), I would order one right now. I just don't think I can deal with the TrueLife panel.

Offer a 22" monitor with 1920x1200 to counter Lenovo's ThinkVision L220x

Monitors and Displays submitted by winoffice Jun 28

http://arstechnica.com/journals/hardware.ars/2007/09/18/lenovo-first-on-the-s...

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalo...

This is the first sub-24" monitor to have a 1920x1200 screen resolution. Lenovo's ThinkVision L220x offers a greater resolution than most other 22" monitors (1680x1050), but otherwise has usual specifications: a 5 ms response time, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and VGA and DVI connectors. The price tag is $499 ($550 upon release), but it is so high probably only because this is the only such monitor. Had there been another such monitor, the price would probbly be less.

By the way this has four USB ports as well, so except for the screen size, contrast ratio and connectors this is pretty much the Lenovo equivalent of a Dell 24" UltraSharp, so it is understandable that the L220x is cheaper than the UltraSharp 2408WFP (which is $679; http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&...).

I think that Dell should offer such a monitor to counter the L220x. I have been asking Dell many times, for a long time, to start offering 1920x1200 on all of its 17"+ monitors (http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10084750/Offer_1920x1200_on_all_of_your...), and it seems that another company caught on to the idea first. 2 Comments »

WUXGA for XPS M1530 in India

Monitors and Displays submitted by vjragvan Jun 27

I am looking for the WUXGA (1920x1200) screens for the XPS M1530 laptops in India. But it is not availalbe in India. I see that it is available in USA and Europe Sites.

I already have an Inspiron 8200 bought in 2002 and that already had the UXGA screen (1600x1200), the highest available at that time. I want to go for a new laptop now but unfortunaly I dont want to downgrade myself to lower resolution screen laptop.

Kindly plan on providing the WUXGA display to the XPS m1530 in India too. 1 Comment »

Have a high resolution *option* for the Inspiron Mini (or other mini laptops)

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by chipzero Jun 4

With a higher resolution screen option, you can effectively fit more on the screen using the same physical dimensions, making mini laptops suited for photo editing/viewing or development environments such as Eclipse. It has been an continous development over the past decade to have increasing screen resolutions, and modern software -- ranging from web applications to operating systems such as Windows Vista -- have adapted to that. Going back to low resolutions such as 800x480 or even 1024x600 has a detrimental effect on the applicability of these mini laptops.

Since the recent rebirth of mini laptops, it's clear that people are willing to give up a lot in terms of specs if for a well-priced and portable laptop. These UMPCs often have 4 or 8 GB storage and a limited CPU and memory specs. A lot of people are very happy to make this trade off (as am I), but the screen resolution may not be one of those things that should be turned down. Doing so affects every day use and impacts the applicability of the laptop.

Using a high DPI on a small screen may not be suited or desirable for everyone, which is why this should be an option. One resolution may be to low for some and two high for others; people should be able to choose whatever DPI they would like to use for their mini. 4 Comments »

Off switch for touchpad on notebooks

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jscottd 02/23/07

All of my users would love the ability to turn off the touch pad. A simple recessed button near the touch pad or even along the side of the machine. How about by the power switch? I know other manufacturers already have this. Let's get up to speed. 8 Comments »

Improve your new 17" monitor.

Monitors and Displays submitted by winoffice Jun 24

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&...

Today I heard of a new 17" by Dell (the S1709W), and I decided to take a look at it. I had expected and hoped for something new or some sort of upgrade or improvement from the SE178WFP/E178WFP monitors. Instead, I was very disappointed when I seen exactly the same specifications! The same resolution, the same connectors, and everything else remains the same too.

I think that the new S1709W could be improved in the following ways:

1. Offer a 1920x1200 resolution option. You offer 1920x1200 on 17" notebooks, do the same here. I sit as close to desktop monitors as I do to notebooks, so do not try to say that I sit closer to notebooks than to desktop monitors.

2. In addition to the VGA port, include a DVI port. 1 Comment »

Fix Skype incompatibity with SP2008WFP webcam

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays submitted by matts Jun 14

There seems to be a driver problem with the Creative webcam in the SP2008WFP monitor. Skype crashes fairly quickly when using it, though the webcam built into my XPS m1330 laptop has no such trouble.

The reason I think it's a driver issue is that another little custom webcam app struggles with the external monitor webcam (freezing, dropping frames) but has no issue with the one in the laptop.

Here's some background: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=101860 1 Comment »
