I am very very frustrated inthe dell product
Last week i buy a Dell Inspiron notebook through online after receiving the Notebook,I notice that my web cam, Internal microphone extrenal microphone jack not working and also my DVD drive giving more noise.
Three time onsite engineer came to solve that problem. My time waste,my money waste.
Now my notebook is not a new notebook it like a second notebook.
Wrost Quality assuanrance in the Dell
I think better if they make complete check before issuing the product to the customer.

I am afarid for recomending others to buy dell product. 2 Comments »

Dell E configuration that competes head to head with HP Mininote and EEE 1000

Inspiron products submitted by midconsumer Jun 17

Dell E current information indicates no configuration with a hard drive that supports Windows XP and Office applications. HP Mininote offers 2GB ram, 120 or 160 GB hard drive and a custom XP installation. The Dell E seems targeted to the EEE surf rather than the EEE 1000. Please offer a business configuration of your smaller form factor. Dell quality is proven to me every day at work. I prefer Dell over its competitors. 2 Comments »

Have a high resolution *option* for the Inspiron Mini (or other mini laptops)

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by chipzero Jun 4

With a higher resolution screen option, you can effectively fit more on the screen using the same physical dimensions, making mini laptops suited for photo editing/viewing or development environments such as Eclipse. It has been an continous development over the past decade to have increasing screen resolutions, and modern software -- ranging from web applications to operating systems such as Windows Vista -- have adapted to that. Going back to low resolutions such as 800x480 or even 1024x600 has a detrimental effect on the applicability of these mini laptops.

Since the recent rebirth of mini laptops, it's clear that people are willing to give up a lot in terms of specs if for a well-priced and portable laptop. These UMPCs often have 4 or 8 GB storage and a limited CPU and memory specs. A lot of people are very happy to make this trade off (as am I), but the screen resolution may not be one of those things that should be turned down. Doing so affects every day use and impacts the applicability of the laptop.

Using a high DPI on a small screen may not be suited or desirable for everyone, which is why this should be an option. One resolution may be to low for some and two high for others; people should be able to choose whatever DPI they would like to use for their mini. 4 Comments »

Dell Mini Inspiron

Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by lukemcurley May 28

Just read on Gizmodo, the new Dell Mini Inspiron looks very nice indeed. (http://gizmodo.com/393815/exclusive-dell-mini-inspiron-their-first-mini-laptop)

My only concern, as I have with all Dell laptops, it has only a crummy VGA port, no DVI or HDMI. I cannot understand this, VGA is dead and has been dead for about four years now.

Other than that it looks very slick, nice keyboard, 3 usb ports, memory card reader, vga and ethernet.

Look forward to the Mini release, but without DVI or HDMI will have to wait until Dell decides that this is an issue for many buyers. 30 Comments »

More Choice of Graphic cards on (Home & Home Office) Laptops and Desktops.

Desktops, Gaming, Inspiron products submitted by fahdriyami Feb 3

Sometimes when looking for a reasonablly priced notebook or desktop i would go for the Inspiron range, and im a gamer, when customizing my pc i just wonder why is there only one or two choices of graphic cards?!, most of them support the same bus type, so why not offer them?! eg, the best Inspiron notebook you offer only comes with a GeForce 8600M GT, can you just offer an 8700M with it at least? i know you did it for a reason and its probably a good one but im just curious...thinking of it, an Inspiron with an 8800M sounds ok :D 3 Comments »

Get rid of glossy truelife screens!

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by wishful 04/01/07

Could we please have more Inspiron deals where we can choose a matte screen instead of the glossy glare filled Truelife screen?! Seems like most times when there is a good deal, you are stuck with no choice...just the Truelife. It's so bad I'm never buying a Dell laptop with it again! 5 Comments »

Bring back non-glossy displays on the Inspiron notebooks!

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by blomster 10/26/07

The only display options showing today (10/26/07) for the 1420 and 1520 notebooks are all glossy screens. ARGH!

I want to buy an XPS M1330, but the glossy screen is a deal breaker for me. Then I was looking at the Inspiron 1420 because it had an antiglare screen available. Now the antiglare option is gone from the website.

Why, Dell? Why? 5 Comments »

Put Ubuntu on a laptop with better specs

Inspiron products, Linux submitted by piratehead 10/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

Offer an Ubuntu laptop (Inspirion or otherwise) with available discreet graphics, discreet audio, 8GB or more of RAM, a quad-core processor, bluetooth, next-gen WiFi, and integrated webcam.

I don't know how many of those are possible at this point, but each one is a step forward for people who are waiting on certain specs to bite on a Dell laptop.

Now that you offer laptops with Ubuntu on them, I really don't want to go to another company just to get the computer specs I want. I wish to vote for Dell with my dollars, paying for a laptop that has actually been tested and certified by the manufacturer to run Ubuntu. Please give me the opportunity!

Beefier (Ubuntu Pre-Installed) Desktop Series needed for powerusers

Inspiron products, Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by sethloco Mar 10

The current Inspiron 530N's mobo/processor/casing falls a little short of what a poweruser would be looking to buy. I think there would be a market for an upgraded desktop, because in recent times, there are a lot of linux powerusers who are finding that they don't have to build their machines from scratch and do a bunch of research on hardware compatibilities. However, they still expect top-notch machines and a short glance at the Inspiron 530n sends them elsewhere. It would be nice to offer a sub-$1000 (base) desktop series with specs more like the following.
PROCESSOR: Q6600 2.4GHZ core 2 quad or E6550 2.33GHZ core 2 duo. Some of us like to run vm machines.....help us out!
CASE: Just something larger with ample space to put 2+ hard drives and good heat dissipation
POWER SUPPLY: 500+ watt options
MEMORY: Again...with those who use vm machines, it's nice to have the option of 4GB+ of memory. The fact that the current Inspiron bios cripples this is a major showstopper. As an aside, Dell's current memory is overpriced. A Linux poweruser buying this theoretical machine, who by prior necessity is used to building their own, is going to know that and purchase memory elsewhere.

Have more then one fan speed for the inspiron 1525

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by thundergrey May 21

All the insprion 1525 has is "High" fan speed. this makes it loud and annoying. My 1520 has a "low" (2250RPM) and a "high" (3500RPM) setting, and when its on "low" you cant even hear it. this should be included on the 1525. Comment »

"Hot Swap Hard Drive" for both the Inspiron & XPS series

Inspiron products, Servers and Storage, XPS products submitted by hal2001 Apr 17

It saves data, time, headaches and work. I have been using a Hot Swap HD in my jobsite computer for over two years and it's a lifesaver. Store drive off-site in a safe location and you can still save on-line w/ the Dell DataSafe program or others if you care to. My job site will not allow on-line storgage. I'm not a personal fan club member of on-line storgage either, encrypted or not it's still on someone Server. I want my Data backup as close to 100% safe as possible. 1 Comment »

Additional cosmetic customization options for Inspiron and XPS notebooks.

Inspiron products, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by benjesuit 06/24/07

Color panels on the lid is a good start. But one would only get to enjoy that when the lid is down - which isn't often.

Therefore, I propose a range of additional cosmetics choices:

1. Choice of LCD screen bezel surround: (same range of colors for the lid)
2. Choice of Keyboard color (Black, Silver, Gray, White)
3. Choice of Touchpad/button color (same range as keyboard colors)
4. Choice of Keyboard surround color (Same range as lid colors)
5. Choice of LED panel light colors using colored inserts (Blue, cyan, red, green, yellow.) 9 Comments »

Unlock Sound Card Features on Inspiron Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by tigerforce Apr 13

The sound card on the Dell E1705 (and probably most recent Inspiron laptop can support all of these features http://www.sigmatel.com/products/pcaudio/notebook/stac9200.aspx but they have all been locked out of the software driver that Dell gives us customers. Additionally their are no ASIO drivers available from Dell and I really need this for my recording projects. Having the other features like setting both my audio jacks to outputs, manually setting sample rates and latency, and virtual surround sound would be soooooo Cool!
Now before you start calling Dell names, let me defend them by saying that they probably thought that your Mom might accidentally wreck her laptop after she messed up her audio settings and then blame Dell. But...
at least put the download on http://www.support.dell.com so all the audiophiles out their can get what we payed for. Dell, you don't have to
make anything new just unlock what already there. Please :) Oh and if you want more info check here (though i don't necessarily recommend this approach) http://www.notebookforums.com/thread169312.html

Improve the appearance of DELL Notebooks and Inspirons and Dimensions

Dimension products, Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by sandesh_airen 05/04/07

Hi,

Feel, the one thing lacking in DELL is to improve the appearance of the Notebooks. Look at a T43 from IBM and look at Latitude D620 . Ignoring the functionality the T43 looks great in appearance.

Same is the case with Inspirons and Dimensions. We should improve the way they look. Looks attract attention. Involves the customer to dig for information. Then the customer starts with the comparing of the functionality at the same price.

Also we should have a notebook/ Desktops with all in one features of gizmo and functionalities. It's difficult i know but this can be a differentating factor in competitive times.

We should also have copy, scan, fax, printer etc in our printers. But then again the appearance should be more attractive.

We feel and are doing great but in changing competitive market we continously need to have product differentiation at competitive cost to have an edge which is very difficult taks.

Hope DELL wins 1 Comment »

A REAL 15" XPS

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, XPS products submitted by soslowxps 11/27/07

All I have to say about the "New" XPS M1530 is that it is severely disappointing. It is basically a 1520 in a supersized 1330 chassis.

With the launch of the 8800M and several companies announcing 15" laptops based around the 8800M GTX I expected a strong showing from Dell.

I want a 15" laptop with some teeth to replace my well aged Inpiron 9300.

The XPS M1530's teeth are as sharp as my grandma's when she takes her dentures out.

I don't want a Integrated webcam.
I don't want a Biometric scanner.
I'll NEVER use either of them.
I understand some people might, hence the reason for options.

I thought XPS meant power, and gaming, not a 6 month late release.
The reason I say 6 month late is because it is so simlilar to the 1520.

It has a higher resolution screen.
The SAME video card, memory option.
Comparable Processors.
None of the "extras" I don't want.
Looks are subjective, I like them both.

If the M1530 can bearly compete with it's "Little Brother" How do they expect it to compete with the REAL gaming 15" laptops coming.

I hope Dell updates the M1530 with even the lower end 8800M as an option, otherwise it'll get crushed performace wise with it's lowly 8600GT. 12 Comments »

Why isn't the Intel T9300 (2.5 Ghz/6MB Cache/800Mhz) processor available on the Inspiron 1420/1520/1525 laptops?

Inspiron products, Sales Strategies submitted by wallyhorse Feb 29

It is interesting that the new Intel T9300 (2.5 Ghz/6MB Cache/800Mhz) processor is only available as an option in the Inspiron laptop series on the 1720 and NOT on the 1420, 1520 or 1525 laptops. In addition, while the T8300 (2.4 Ghz/3MB Cache/800Mhz Processor) is an option on the 1420 and 1520 (and 1720), that also is NOT an option on the 1525. Why is that?

I would myself make the T8300 and T9300 options available on the 1525 and the T9300 option available on the 1420 and 1520 laptops myself. I'm sure Dell would sell more of those with those two as options. 9 Comments »
