"Dell E" Find a new name for your new computer...

Advertising and Marketing submitted by badblood Jun 13

Dell's upcoming netbook ultaramobile thing is apparently going to be called the 'Dell E' which sounds like Deli, where you can buy milk, bread and other nice things.

Please think of another name. Have a naming competition on Ideastorm.

I vote for the Dell Lite as in delight!

Don't put the Dell logo upside down on the Mini Inspiron

Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 29

I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down.

Please don't leave the logo like that, it looks bad. 52 Comments »

Please bring LightFX software (or equivalent) to the XPS 630!

XPS products submitted by rambler358 Jun 25

I purchased the XPS 630 a while back, but during my online purchase I noticed that LightFX was being advertised with it - being able to make the lights "dance" to music and such. This looked like a very cool feature, and is a partial reason why I purchased the 630. But it looks like this software might not make it to the XPS 630/730 desktops. I just wanted to promote this idea because many people are asking for it. 2 Comments »

Better Graphic Card Options in the new Studio 17

Laptops submitted by steve123 Jun 26

Well the new Dell Studio laptops have been officially released... This was the laptop i was waiting for.

Here is a review - http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4471

Anyways, if you look at dell.co.uk you can customise it. WHY WHY does it only come with a 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3650 graphic card!

According to this site, http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

My 2 1/2 year old nvidia 7900gs performs better than this!!

Very disappointing as i was waiting to buy this 17" laptop, What to do now.... 5 Comments »

Matte (non-glossy) screen option on Studio laptops

Laptops submitted by blomster Jun 26

Please add the OPTION of a matte screen to the new Studio 15 and Studio 17 laptops -- preferably to all of the available resolution and backlight versions. Glossy displays are a deal-breaker for me. 4 Comments »

Make the "recent ideas" the default page

IdeaStorm submitted by ccpljat Jun 7

I think this is what most people are interested in looking at. The popular ideas page doesn't change too much. But new ideas are constantly showing up. I for one go there first. 1 Comment »

Warn Buyers Dell Laptops Must Use Dell Charger

Service and Support, Laptop Power submitted by gear Jun 9

Dell laptops use a charger that has a built in "chip".

If you try to use a non-Dell Charger, it will only power the machine, but will not charge the battery.

So if you are traveling and lose your adapter or it failed, you have to get one from DELL.

The only problem is, DELL typically take days to weeks to ship a new adapter to you if you are in the USA, and if you are outside, much longer if it is available at all.

So a bad / lost Adapter means your DELL Laptop just became a paperweight. One too expensive to be thrown out.

The only non-Dell adapter that works is the Kensington brand adapter, but that is only distributed at Circuit City in the US, and even these ones may not come with the "tip" needed to work with a DELL.

DELL is the only major manufacturer to actively prevent people from using non-Dell adapters in their notebooks.

Apparently DELL hasn't figured out that people travel and may not be able to wait in one place for a while for a spare adapter to be sent to them from DELL.

Want some real fun? Try to get a spare Dell adapter in a mid sized city in China.... 2 Comments »

Give XPS Notebooks Gigabit Ethernet

XPS products submitted by croftki Feb 17

I understand that Dell market research says home users in general are not interested in gigabit ethernet for home networks. Those who pay for the premium design in the XPS line, however, are more likely to want gigabit ethernet. I would rather buy something more exciting than a business class notebook, but I want to build on my home technology with each purchase I make. XPS Notebooks unfortunately do not help me do this. It seems my only option is to buy a Latitude. 28 Comments »

Avoid Glare On Screens and Notebook Frames

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by bobetsue 02/20/07

Glare and reflection from high glare screens, screen frames, and notebook computers is annoying and distract from function and use.

In stores, this may be a marketing ploy. Consumers may not fully understand the problem of glare. Online sellers like Dell should inform buyers when shopping whether the screen and case are "glare" or "nonglare."

When "nonglare" was introduced to television, shoppers considered it an advantage worthy of extra expense. In the art world, nonglare glass is considered worthy of extra expense.

How did we ever get glossy screens?

Dell should offer customers a choice between "glare" and "nonglare." 226 Comments »

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support submitted by siger May 19

when there is a problem with the Master Boot Record the ISO can't repair it and we have to go to a reparation company.

Please give us the original disc and not an ISO. IT Is more expensive but , more satisfaction for the customer. 9 Comments »

Please make Ubuntu XPS Notebook cheaper than XPS Vista Notebook

Linux, Operating Systems, XPS products submitted by dki May 26

Hi,
I have tested the price of the default Vista-Notebook XPS M1330 (in Germany) and the Ubuntuversion with the same Configuration. The result was amazing :(:

Vistaversion: 909,00 €
Linuxversion: 923,44 €

Is Vista cheaper than Ubuntu?? I can not imagine.

So my wish: Make Ubuntu-Laptops competitive! 19 Comments »

Keep the XPS Product Line

XPS products submitted by dabrace1984 May 12

According to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/12/dell-dropping-xps-focusing-on-alienware) Dell is going to be dropping the XPS product line and focusing on the Alienware brand for gaming and high performance computing. Promote this Idea to let Dell know that we need to keep the XPS desktop and laptop product line. 31 Comments »

Enough with the blue LED's already!

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by chewd Jan 15

A small, sharp, pinpoint of blue light is absolutely the worst thing you could possibly do to your night vision! Theres a reason the panel lights in aircraft are always red, red light does not leave retinal artifacts that impair night-vision.

I know blue LED's are trendy, everythings got them these days. And bluetooth has "blue" right in the freakin name. But those of us who use notebooks for work, and work at night, find blue LEDs very irritating.

Blue being a very short wavelength is very penetrating. You can light an entire room with one blue LED, whereas red being a long wavelength is ideal for indicators & such as it does not carry as much.

Give us the option of changing the color of the LED's either through BIOS, software, or even physically replacing them (or just replacing a colored lens). Maybe it would be possible to let us turn down the brightness a tad.

It would be nice not to have to cover my new laptop with little bits of tape. 30 Comments »

Add an "Alerts" tab to the user dashboard

Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by winoffice 12/29/07

Currently, if a dell_admin wants to merge or delete a post, no one will know of the threat until they actually visit the Web page of the post, which they might or might not do until the post is actually deleted or merged. And the user this way does not get to reply to the threat, unless they search for the post that the dell_admin wants to delete or merge.

There should be an easier way to find out such threats. On the current user dashboard I see this.

"Dashboard | Ideas Submitted | Ideas Voted On | Comments | Account Details | Saved Items"

Dell, you might want to add a an "Alerts" category there. That way, if anyone clicks on "Alerts", then he/she will easily find out if a dell_admin wants to delete or merge a post, rather than having to search for the idea or comment. 3 Comments »

Make Dell home support usable

Advertising and Marketing, Dell, Service and Support submitted by brodes18 12/28/07

Dell home support is terribly broken. Here is a list of problems:
-Most of the representatives don't speak a good English.
-The ones that do speak and understand a good English can't comprehend the customer's problem.
-Most of the time the customer gets lost in an endless loop of representatives in different departments that cant help at all.

If this is the service you want to offer to home customers, a busy signal would be more useful. When I need support, I get my business rep to do it for me after hours of dealing with home support. The simplest problems such as order support need to be fixed. It is currently absolutely unusable.

Spend some money on home support. These are the customers that you want to retain. You need to invest money to build a working customer support system. 3 Comments »

Stop OVERSELLING unstocked items & HUGE Cust.Support Improvements needed.

Dell, Service and Support submitted by ragenowski Jan 7

A normally @$275-$300 MSI 8800GT video card advertised on dell.com for $209 without anticipating demand for what was a VERY highly sought after video card. Sold WAY more than they could obtain, then sent delay notice after delay notice to possibly thousands of people. Many orders cancelled due to multiple delays then CS gave very little assistance. It would be HIGHLY advisable of Dell to worry less about improving their products and concentrate MUCH more on correcting shady business practices and completely inept CS. If not, many more people like myself will boycott anything with the dell and it's subsidiaries' logo. 1 Comment »

Dell XPS One Graphics Accelerator Weakness for Gamers

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Gaming, XPS products submitted by fahdriyami Jan 6

When the XPS One was first release i thought it was something new and amazing from Dell, i immediatly started thinking about how gamers would enjoy playing on this system, i was also curious to find out what graphic accelerator it used, unfourtunatly, i was very dissapointed by the HD 2400, it is a good and reliable card that is completely HD compatible but it does not fulfill gaming needs, i think Dell should introduce more options, like the Nvidia mobile series video cards, at least the 8600 GS/GT would make a noticable difference in gaming, or make it extreme and introduce the 8800M series and maybe SLI! That would really make a difference and would definately make an improvement i sales in my opinion. Incase Dell would like to keep using ATI on this system, you could instead introduce the new Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series... 12 Comments »
