New Dual Headed Hard Drive....just imagination by me

New Product Ideas, Servers and Storage, Desktops and Laptops submitted by aniket 8:15am

just imagine a hard drive with 2 heads
I got this idea bcz of long time taking virus scan process, moving files from one partition to another on same hard disk, DVD burning process, DVD image creation process & defragmention process.
in these five daily processes, computer gets slow
I think with dual head,,, one head will do one of this application & another head will remain free for our work, media enjoyment like watching movies, listening songs n etc.

specially while moving files on different partitions on same drive & defragmention process, one head will catch files from one location & another head will write those files on required location
there will be no need of ram while moving files as today's hard drives needs

I hope ,u all hav understand my concept on hard drives

it's just like core 2 duo processors
I m expecting this concept from all hard drive manufacturers...specially from my favourite "western digital"

they may also create 4 headed like core 2 quad processors

Handles on laptops

Laptops submitted by pdulin 9:39am

I would like to see laptops with handles on them to make them more portable. Some of us don't like to use a heavy carrying case if we don't need the space for peripherals and paperwork. I'd like to be able to grab mine like an attache case when going from my office to my car to my home. 5 Comments »

Batteries

Laptops submitted by jfitz136 Yesterday

Make battery replacement part of the service plan that people pay so much money for instead of just the standard year limited warranty and even if they get a replacement under the year limited, the next battery if they need it should be based off the time of replacement for the new battery. Offer AntiVirus Software with Dell laptops/Desktops instead of Bluetooth headsets....

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Laptops submitted by valmikam Yesterday

Currently in some of the offers on Dell Studio and Inspiron models on Dell India sites, Bluetooth Wireless Headset is being included, which costs around 3000 INR (~ $70). Instead Dell can provide useful software like Antivirus which are must for any system. Currently the antivirus offered by default is only a trial (30 day). Or atleast make the Bluetooth Wireless Headset optional. 5 Comments »

Offer AC/DC Auto/Air adapter

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by techincc Yesterday

Many laptop manufacturers offer the option (a few include it as default) of a power adapter that runs off AC or DC and is compatible with the socket in a car or plane. Now one device can power your laptop in a building, car, or plane. This is definately handy.

Offering this as a option, would also solve the request to allow people to purchase a 2nd adapter while configuring the laptop. I frequently purchase an extra adapter to always have one in the office and one in the laptop carrying case. That way you aren't crawling under the desk, but just disconnect power, pop out ethernet and you are on your way. 4 Comments »

Offer a Mobile pack

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by mathew_rankin Yesterday

Perhaps offer a "mobile" pack. a Mobile pack would include the laptop, a bag or backpack, wireless bluetooth notebook mouse, car and airplane adapters, an extra battery headphones and more. Not more then $200-$250 more then the notebook price. This would really boast the notebook sales as they could chose to get the notebook along with everything in the pack at the same time at the same place

Laptop/TV

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by ninobrownpbs Jun 30

Why not have a TV you can use as a laptop as well. The device would look like a laptop but have a screen on the top of the device and one on the inside of the device opposite from the top screen. With the device closed you have a LCD TV but when you open it up its another laptop. This way this device is portable. Must have a protecting cover for the top screen. This device should still be able to play DVDs and CDs also IPOD and MP3 hookups. The TV portion should come in LCD or plasma, 720p or 1080p or if not have a TV on the top then maybe a digital picture frame. This could also be used in cars, strapped to the back of car seats. 2 Comments »

Innovative cooling pads

Laptops submitted by ringas85 Jun 29

Dell should have it as a standard feature to include a cooling pad for every laptop they sell. And the laptop colling pads should be the same size as the laptop they buy with the ability to lock-in to the laptop so it acts as one unit yet it will provide cooling as 2 units.I bought a targus laptop cooling pad with 2 fans and my Dell Inspiron 1501 went from a typical 86 degrees to a amazing 52 degrees.Makes a huge difference and will help make the laptops last longer, dell would save money on repair issues to to laptops overheating and blowing up.Just makes way more logic in my mind 9 Comments »

Built-In Notebook / Laptop Digitizer

Laptops submitted by brokencrystal Jun 29

It would be nice if a digitizer such as the Wacom could be put in place or combination with the touch pad on a laptop. It could be in the same location as the touch pad, and if it was in combination with it, you could use a stylus for digitizer functionality, or your finger for touch pad functionality. This way us graphics artists, designers, and engineers could use a digitizer on the go. The stylus could slide into the side of the laptop like it does on a PDA. You could use Wacom's technology to do this and offer it on the Studio and XPS line as an option/upgrade. The stylus could be touch sensitive as the Wacom already supports this technology. 1 Comment »

EXTERNAL POWER BUTTON FOR LAPTOPS, and better external display support

Laptops submitted by ringas85 Jun 29

Wish Dell would make powerbuttons elsewhere than opening the laptop cover and pressing the power button. This kinda makes it annoying for people like me whose laptop is connected to a 20 inch HD LCD monitor and doesnt care for the built-in laptop screen. This would make a laptop feel most like a laptop/desktop crossover, and if the dell boot-screen & bios automatically switched to external display once it was connected or the external display was powered up that would be a bonus! 6 Comments »

Built in USB Flash Drive

Laptops submitted by gradinw Jun 27

Laptops should have a built in USB flash drive that can be ejected and used whenever and then put back into the laptop. This should not be some storage spot but a live USB port that is inside the machine so that the flashdrive is always available. 14 Comments »

Travel Laptop Package

Laptops submitted by gregcasey Jun 25

Just got back from a 5000 Mile Motorcycle tour. My idea for a package that may have a market is a custom package using the new ultra portable with solid state disk. Included would be Map software, GPS capability, WIFI/RF Connections, Remote Camera for mounting on Dash-board and/or Handle Bars. Software would include programmable camera clicking software. So, one could compose a literal movie of the trip in real time. The ability to add comments and thoughts in an audio track. Further capabilities tied to a web-site, would be AUTO upload via ftp, of current Pictures and/or position. Very key information for parents or family that may be tracking progress or safety of the trip. All photo's would be date and GPS Geo stamped. This would have a unique market for bikers, motorcyclers, RV'rs and commericial truckers. Although all the components are available separately, the integration of the package may open up sales non- DIY's. Comment »

Light up keyboards for business laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Small Business, Laptops submitted by derricktwo Jun 24

I'm fortunate enough to have made it in this industry without really knowing how to type. I can type fairly fast, but I have to look at the keys while I'm doing so. I highly doubt I am the only person that needs to do this. I noticed that the Alienware notebooks have an option to add a light up keyboard. I think this would a great feature to have on Dells business class laptops. This would allow people to work in bed without needing to turn on the lights, or during night flights for a business trip. Make a docking station port and offer a docking station for all notebooks

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by joshuacl 07/30/07

Make a docking station port and offer a docking station for all notebooks especially the XPS series. I am seriously considering purchasing the M1330 but the fact that Dell doesn't make a true docking station for it makes me consider other options. 12 Comments »

Add USB port 5V supply to Laptop Powersupply units

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by michael.schwarz May 14

Today a travelling laptop user has often additional mobile devices which are charged by the USB port like Music players, mobile phones, PDA's etc. To charge these the Laptop unfortunate must be switched on. If the Transformator/ power supply for Laptops would have an USB power supply connector, - devices could be charged indendent from running the Laptop. (e.g. at nigth in Hotel)

I experienced such capability some time ago by an third party Power supply and found it very valuable.

If this would be added to Dell Laptop power adapters it would offer and added value to the today mobile Users. 1 Comment »

Simplify Offerings

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by j87b May 11

There are so many offerings on the first page for either laptops or desktops that I don't even know where to start. Look at Apple-- three main laptop lines, with three flavors for each, three main desktop offerings with three base configurations. I just don't even know where to start when picking a PC since there are too many paths to go through. I end up wasting tons of time comparing the 1000s of ways to end up at the same product. 5 Comments »

E-shopping made easy

Dell Web Site submitted by diegok May 10

As an online shopper, I find myself tired typing over and over, credit cards numbers, expiration dates, and all the info asked when you buy stuff over the internet.
My idea would be installing a payment device inside the, desktop or laptop, computer or even the paypass, and the only thing you have to worry about is find the right credit card. 3 Comments »
