Ubuntu on 12.1 or 13.3 inch laptops Linux, Laptops submitted by miceagol 05/31/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Preload Ubuntu on your 12.1 (XPS M1210) or 13.3 inch (XPS M1330) laptops. As it is now, there's only one choice for a laptop, and that choice is not a light laptop. The 12.1 inch and 13.3 inch laptops are much better to carry around than heavy 15 inch++ laptops. Use the spring mechanism on more Dell notebooks like on the XPS m1330 Laptops submitted by jervis961 07/24/07
Dell's Website must work with Firefox running on Linux Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by qgonjon 07/16/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
It's discouraging to have a Tier 1 vendor (Dell) selling Linux products and yet not really tailoring to Linux. Don't get me wrong Dell, I am not trying to take away all the good you have done. Offering Linux is a step in the right direction and I would like to see more steps taken in a monthly or quarterly basis. But, it seems that the basis for your current Linux promotion is for the Open Source enthusiast like me. I use Linux at home and at work as my main operating system. I use Firefox as my browser and I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 1420N. However, it seems that the embedded flash script that shows the different colors choices for the Inspiron is not working under Linux. It also shows that I can't see the different images thereafter. It works with Windows running Firefox as my vmware machine verified. But that is not the type of user that will most likely purchase a Linux laptop. Make the dell ubuntu models available through the main webpage Dell Web Site, Linux, Sales Strategies submitted by rajeevbhatta 06/19/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Instead of having the model listings on a different webpage ( www.dell.com/open) have these models available from the product search you have on the main page or a link available through the main page (www.dell.com) Chuck Norris/ Walker:Texas Ranger Desktop XPS products submitted by douchebaglark 07/14/07 Dell should make a Chuck Norris themed xps desktop with a Special Chuck Norris themed case. It would of course have to be top-of-the-line and cost a lot. 2 Comments » Stop using windows on Dells altogether! Just use Ubuntu Linux, Operating Systems submitted by couger 07/13/07 I think Dell should just give up using windows altogether and follow the revolution by only using Ubuntu 22 Comments » Daily or Monthly rentals of OS's for Dell hardware customers. Operating Systems, Servers and Storage submitted by jmxz 07/10/07
In the past 6 years, I can count exactly 3 days where I actually wanted to use Windows (TurboTax a few years back before my taxes got more complicated). For users who have very occasional use of an OS, it doesn't make sense to buy it; but would be better if I could rent the software in the same way I can rent playstation software from various video rental stores. Make it easier for your customers to resell unwanted software you bundle. Dell, Service and Support, Software submitted by jmxz 07/10/07
On a lot of our work computers you bundled a bunch of software that we don't want (antivirus software; multimedia software; and even Windows itself on many models). Add all the OS's you sell to the "Help Me Choose: Operating System" page Dell Web Site, Linux, Operating Systems submitted by jmxz 06/08/07
These pages: titled "Help Me Choose: Operating System" (a Dell help me choose page, another one) Child-Friendly environment to protect parent's files. Software submitted by lizblake 06/04/07 **REVIEWED**
After my child and his friend erased our family photos and somehow inverted the display of our family computer... I purchased a software program to give the kids the equivalent of a "gilded cage" to run only software and websites I approve. Similar software would make a great addition to the Dell home computer line-up and could be aimed at families with toddlers, daycare centers, churches, daycare centers, kindergartens, etc. Operating Systems submitted by javaprog07 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. Desktops and Laptops submitted by mwmtjm 01/30/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Do away with 512MB of memory as a base option to buy consumer desktops and notebooks. With Vista running best on 1GB at a minimum, don't make customers have a basic experience with the new OS because Dell wants to be able to advertise at a lower price point. The success of Vista -- and subsequently for Dell -- will be largely in word of mouth. Take a long-term view and build the momentum one great customer experience at a time right now! How about a fast, Internet ready Linux desktop. Small form factor, pretty monitor, mouse & keyboard, the O.S., OpenOffice & Firefox. Cheap'n'fast ONE SHOPPING CART PLEASE (dell.com) Dell Web Site submitted by ootleman 02/16/07
Why split it up into 4 different shopping carts (home, small business, etc)? I still don't know how it works. 1/2 my products go into one cart, 1/2 my orders go into the other, possibly depending on where I was browsing from. Software submitted by ootleman 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS. Linux, Operating Systems submitted by rehtneug 07/06/07 Dell should develop it's own Linux based OS. Allow the open source community to provide drivers and any other software necessary. Partner with open source groups and provide resources to allow further development of necessary apps, such as OpenOffice. 10 Comments » Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by megabucks10457 07/11/07 When I first heard about Idea Storm it sounded like a wonderful opportunity for inventors to be able to communicate directly with a well known and reputable company. Alas it is nothing more then a new way for big business to steal ideas from the little guys without paying for them. I would recommend that any individual with an idea or innovation submit it to a patent office, where at least they stand a chance of financial gain. Dell has proven to be no better then Lawrence Peska, a well known idea theft company. Has Dell's deception become so organized that people are actually stupid enough to submit designs without any hope of future profit or recognition? If This is the case, then I think that Dell should send me a top of the line computer with the name and address of the person who designed it, so that my money can be properly channeled. 10 Comments » Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. track my votes
