Dell XPS M1530 Push SSD in notebooks esp the 1330 Sales Strategies, XPS products, Laptops submitted by 500moldschool 08/15/07
Solid State Drives (SSD) are the way to go. I am in the market to replace my old trusty 500m from 4 years ago. However, I have found few laptops that are really worth replacing my trusty 4.9lb laptop with. Newer laptops are no doubt better, but in the range of the portable non-desktop replacing market I have been disappointed. Your service warranties currently last for annual periods. But people will use their computers more or less during this period. You need to make these warranties relevant all of your customers, heavy and light users. M1730 should look more like the M1330 XPS products submitted by saleemohaib 08/16/07
I saw the pics of the upcoming Dell XPS M1730 laptop. I was really disappointed. I was not expecting something so ugly from Dell. By the way you can view the pics on this link: Ideastorm should include a ‘REPLY’ option for the comments. IdeaStorm submitted by soryps 08/16/07

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Gaming submitted by bbr 08/08/07
Some low-quality keyboards suffer problems when multiple keys are pressed in quick succession; some types of keyboard circuitry will register a maximum number of keys at one time. This is undesirable for games (designed for multiple keypresses, e.g. casting a spell while holding down keys to run) and undesirable for extremely fast typing (hitting new keys before the fingers can release previous keys). A common side effect of this shortcoming is called "phantom key blocking": on some keyboards, pressing three keys simultaneously sometimes resulted in a 4th keypress being registered. Modern keyboards prevent this from happening by blocking the 3rd key in certain key combinations, but while this prevents phantom input, it also means that when two keys are depressed simultaneously, many of the other keys on the keyboard will not respond until one of the two depressed keys is lifted. Better keyboards are designed so that this happens infrequently in office programs, but it remains a problem in games even on expensive keyboards, due to wildly different and/or configurable key/command layouts in different games. I noted that one of your competitors is launching a small lightweight laptop with a crappy 7" screen and a tiny flash based disk (4-8GB), running a Linux version adapted for beginners (but still containing tools for linux pros). The interesting point is that you get a small and light laptop for less than $200. Despite the poor specifications, I'm extremely tempted to get one - it would be a perfect complement for my Inspiron when I travel (or actually just for work - it's photography, movie watching, gaming, and other leisure applications that require more performance). Say No to Microsoft SuSe Linux Linux, Small Business submitted by dbyte32 08/08/07 Dell is offering Microsoft's SuSe Linux pre-installed in China, and plans to do the same in the US. MicroSoft shouldn't be allowed to profit from Linux. One of the founding ideas of Linux is freedom from Microsoft and this inferior software. 25 Comments » Dell need to update driver for Broadcom 802.11g Wireless card on Inspiron 530 & Inspiron 531 Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Inspiron products submitted by helmecj01 08/08/07
I think Dell need to update driver for Broadcom 802.11g Wireless card on Inspiron 530 & Inspiron 531 Sales Strategies submitted by polarwolf 02/28/07 This one is a short and easy one...if Dell doesn't want or can't offer OS-less consumer PCs or laptops, at least make it easier for customers to claim the refund they're intitled to in the Microsoft EULA if they don't accept the terms of the license. 20 Comments » Monitors and Displays submitted by droiii1369 08/08/07 Some of us in the Business Travel World have been spoiled while in the office with having two monitors. At first I was not used to using multiple monitors but now I find it hard to work any other way. My suggestion is for Dell to create a monitor that is as small as a laptop (15 in screen), has a stand that folds into the back of the monitor and a cover for the front. This way the monitor can be taken on the road and all of us who are spoiled with two monitors in the office can take the luxury with us. The ideal monitor would be about the size of a regular laptop so that it could fit in an oversized laptop bag. I think that the travel monitor would be a great success for Accountants, Lawyers, Consultants, etc. who travel and set up work sites at client locations. 1 Comment » Broadband and Mobility submitted by whotwagner 08/07/07 Some useful (wireless)tools and features only works with madwifi-cards. if dell would have notebooks with such cards, delluser could also use different wifi-modes at the same time( for example). 1 Comment » Emerging market: Real Media PC's Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Broadband and Mobility submitted by tleavit 08/07/07
I'd have to say that most existing large manufacturers are missing the media PC market (HTPC) pretty bad. Dell is. I keep trying to price up a good media PC with Dell and they just don’t exist. They aren’t bad but a lot of people want more and better options. I would classify Dell as "low-fi". You should try out a "Mid-Fi" product. The PS3 as far as a media player is a great solid mid-fi product for cheap and contrary to current media, they have still sold 4 million+ units. Dell should build a media PC that is backed by HD-DVD or Blue-Ray with solid quality HDMI output. Throw in lots of quality sound outputs: HDMI, component, AC3, etc. Make it small (such as SFF) however make it easy to upgrade. Offer built in Wi-Fi and Blue tooth. Most users will probably use media capabilities of Vista Ultimate media player but keep the Linux HTPC buys in mind for drivers. Make it a quality piece to proudly display on a stereo rack with a case that is HT standard and color switchable (like black and silver). It should be able to plug into a quality pre/pro processor with little problems and full compatibility. Offer several good video capture cards. We understand that its not going to be cheap, most quality HT components are not cheap. Include all of the codec’s that one needs right off the bat and support them. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Servers and Storage, Laptops submitted by patrickthegreat 08/07/07 Having the ability to boot from the express card slot on a laptop would be a great idea for those that would like to run multiple operating systems on external drives. eSATA through the expess card slot currently alots for 3gb/s data transfer rates, as opposed to the USB 2.0 (480mb/s). An update to the current BIOS would be great, but I doubt we will actually get that, but at least Dell could make this available in future laptops. 6 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by reg 08/07/07 **COMING SOON**

Hello Dell, I have carried a Latitude C840 for just over six years now. It has been very good to me but the time came to upgrade my machine. I went with the Latitude D820 and have to say it is an amazing little notebook. I have one serious gripe with it and really would love a solution or a design change to prevent future machines from suffering as this one does. track my votes
