ZERO Noise Water Cooling Laptops

Environment, New Product Ideas submitted by ruvenss 05/28/07

Make a cooling system with less decibels than any other Laptop on the market. Use cooling materials, as an option, so customers can choose to pay more for a non noisy laptop.

A cooling system for every part of the laptop, even sharing the weight of the components on the screen side,. imagine a flat battery on the whole LCD screen back, now with that free space on the chassis you can split the harware components so they can breath better, also include a flat gel cooling system, to improve performance, battery life, and reduce the noise as much as possible. 20 Comments »

Small, cheap laptops without all the expensive features

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by bjomape 08/09/07

I noted that one of your competitors is launching a small lightweight laptop with a crappy 7" screen and a tiny flash based disk (4-8GB), running a Linux version adapted for beginners (but still containing tools for linux pros). The interesting point is that you get a small and light laptop for less than $200. Despite the poor specifications, I'm extremely tempted to get one - it would be a perfect complement for my Inspiron when I travel (or actually just for work - it's photography, movie watching, gaming, and other leisure applications that require more performance).

I hope that you'll be able to match this competitor. I would be very happy to sacrifice lots of performance for a laptop of that size and price tag. Comment »

Child Lock on Power Switch

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops submitted by steve.au 06/21/07 **NOT NOW**

Don't know about anyone else but I've got a two year old child that loves playing with the power button on my desktop.

Thats when I'm using it & not.

Gee I would love for there to be a simple child lock on the power switch. I can think of a couple of different options;
* A button at the top & bottom of the desktop.
* You press both simultaneously for 2-3 seconds to power on or off
* A setting in the bios allows you to turn the feature off & then either or button works
* There still needs to be a hard switch at the back to avoid having to yank the power cord out

This could also be an option for the child notebook posting http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/67728 57 Comments »

Sticker add/remove option when purchasing computer.

New Product Ideas, Operating Systems submitted by twocows 08/11/07

I hear a lot of people these days debating over the stickers. I say we should leave it entirely up to the customer. Create an option where the user can decide if he wants an OS sticker, a processor sticker, both, some other stickers, or just no stickers at all. On the customization page, a check-box system could be used, for instance. 7 Comments »

How about a stylish Notebook that can be swirled or rotated?

Laptops submitted by petzymathuram 08/25/07

One among the recent releases of Hp includes a laptop that can be swirled or twisted or adjusted
It means:
- In a notebook the monitor part can be rotated / adjusted moved this way and that way (like how we adjust desktops)
- when you open your laptop you can proceed normally with the monitor still fixed facing you or can be changed or rotated or swirled around, just to prvent light reflection or to have an easy and relaxed position...

How about this?......;) 4 Comments »

Center typing area on keyboards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by tonybrubaker 08/17/07

The standard dell keyboard I have has the number pad and all the arrow and navigational keys (home, end, page down, page up, etc.) at one end of the keyboard. When I type, I sit centered on the main typing area. This puts all the rest of the keyboard (number pad, navigational keys, etc.) hanging off to the right. This is sometimes annoying because it ends up hanging off the edge of my keyboard stand, etc. A keyboard should be made where the main typing are is the center of the keyboard, the number pad is on the right and all the navigational keys are on the left. That way the user sits center on the entire keyboard and doesn't have the bulk of it hanging off to one side. Comment »

battery connection hold-down

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by bobbychuck 07/25/07

It is very frustrating when in the middle of a power point presentation to have the ac cable fall out of the back of the laptop. You need some kind of keeper which can be slid into place to hold the ac power cable in place. 3 Comments »

Replace the Keyboard's Windows key with the Easy Key

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by jorge 06/11/07

Dell replace the hated and useless windows key with the Easy Key which is what all your complaining, nagging, whinning customers want even if they can't verbalize it.

Its red color will aid in tech support helping users identify the easy key and it will make all users feel good when pressing it, there will be some technical issues in jamming it in place but it will be well worth it. 9 Comments »

be more competitive on accessories

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies submitted by undead999 06/17/07

on June 17, 2007 the price for a 1GB usb flash drive was $319.99 at dell.com
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&s...

at best buy the average price for a 1gb usb flash drive was under $30.00 - i could have more than 10 usb flash drives fro the cost of one at dell.

dell sales rep: So i have one xps 410 with a 20 inch flat screen and dell printer, would you like to add a 1gb flash drive for only $319.99

customer:I dont know if thats going to be big enough, how much for a 2gb model, be sure to quote a quality item, no cheap walmart junk for me.

dell sales rep:only $125.99 which includes biometrics to protect you data mr customer. if you loose it your data will be protected.

customer: let me get this straight i can buy a standard flash drive with 1 gb for $320 or a 2gb w/ biometric for leas than half the cost of a 1gb?

dell sales rep: yes, mr customer that is right

customer: maybe we need to look at the XPS 410 quote and see if there is a model with twice the stuff with more bell and whistles at less than half the price. 1 Comment »

Replace the Windows key with the Dell key

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Advertising and Marketing submitted by mistern 06/11/07

There've been all these ideas that Dell should get rid of the Windows key. BAH! Criticists...

You should replace the Windows key with a key with the Dell logo. This is more advertisement for you and more satisfaction to fanatics.

Now if this isn't a good deal! 6 Comments »

Two-finger scroll

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by hephaestus 07/04/07

The Apple Macbooks have a two-finger scroll, which is fabulous. You don't have to grab the scrollbar of your web browser or arrow down. You just use two fingers on the touchpad and the page automatically scrolls. This seems like such a simple, but wonderfully convenient feature, it should be standard on all Dell notebooks. 8 Comments »

Offer Joystick mouse

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by badblood 07/02/07

Joystick mice are an alternative to the traditional mouse. They are immobile and so can be used even if you are not sitting at a desk and are great for use with laptops. They offer the same if not better precision than a traditional mouse and could come in a wide variety of sizes to suit tastes and mobility. The Joystick II is also a great ergonomic device for preventing Repetitive Strain Injuries associated with standard mouse use and is good for people with limited wrist and hand movement. Pictured is an old model.

Make longer lasting batteries for better portability

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by winoffice 05/05/07 **IN PROGRESS**

Don't make us recharge our laptops' batteries so often! A recent Cnet article (posted at Cnet's news site at about May 5, 2007) explains that Windows Vista's Aero Glass feature gives you less battery life. So, if we want Windows Vista, then we either have to recharge more often, or pay extra for more and better batteries! Instead, make Dell get rid of the batteries which quickly lose their charge...and come up with something that would give us longer battery life as follows (under Windows Vista), without making us stay away from Windows Vista or pay an extra $99 for another and better battery.

Basic laptops: at least 2 1/2 hours battery life
Entertainment laptops: at least 3 1/2 hours battery life
XPS laptops: at least 4 1/2 hours battery life 31 Comments »
