"The Napkin PC aims to bring out the creative passion of the user both individually and in group sessions. It encourages spreading out and allows for multiple creative workflows that can interact or just as easily stay independent. It encourages group interaction and collaboration by allowing any number of interfaces that can be passed around or pinned up, but which all communicate with a central network."

9600GT 512MB Gddr3 for xps 1530!!!

XPS products submitted by idangold Jun 4

9600M GT/9650M GS are officially out on the market since Yesterday June 3, 2008!
Dell, I assure you, your future customers don't want to wait months before its out on a Dell xps 1530,Frankly speaking, I dont even want to wait one week... (oh and for the xps 1330 fans you guys should also get the 9300/9500 real soon as well :))
Its great for performance but more important is the battery power you save - Think about how this is combined with the LED and the new Penyran processors and a 9 cell on an xps!!!! 10 Comments »

Webcam with Nightvision

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by baurth Jun 9

I wish Dell's Webcams had some sort of nightvision. This way, my remote-surveillance-software would also work by night and give me clear pictures (of intruders etc). 1 Comment »

Warn Buyers Dell Laptops Must Use Dell Charger

Service and Support, Laptop Power submitted by gear Jun 9

Dell laptops use a charger that has a built in "chip".

If you try to use a non-Dell Charger, it will only power the machine, but will not charge the battery.

So if you are traveling and lose your adapter or it failed, you have to get one from DELL.

The only problem is, DELL typically take days to weeks to ship a new adapter to you if you are in the USA, and if you are outside, much longer if it is available at all.

So a bad / lost Adapter means your DELL Laptop just became a paperweight. One too expensive to be thrown out.

The only non-Dell adapter that works is the Kensington brand adapter, but that is only distributed at Circuit City in the US, and even these ones may not come with the "tip" needed to work with a DELL.

DELL is the only major manufacturer to actively prevent people from using non-Dell adapters in their notebooks.

Apparently DELL hasn't figured out that people travel and may not be able to wait in one place for a while for a spare adapter to be sent to them from DELL.

Want some real fun? Try to get a spare Dell adapter in a mid sized city in China.... 2 Comments »

Simplify Customization Process

Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by delfmeek May 18

There are too many options when ordering a PC/Laptop. While choice is a good thing, I do not understand why Dell offers several memory configurations. The last time I ordered a desktop, I had 8 choices of memory configurations, for 1, 2, 3, or 4 gigabytes of a memory. I could get the 1,2,3, or 4 gigs of memory in 667 or 800 Mhz of memory. Why in the the world would I choose the 667 MHZ of memory, when less than $50 seperates me from the 800 MHZ option? eliminate the 667 MHZ memory module option, and just simplify it. I hate to say it, but Apple's website is super easy to configure---use that as a model. 4 Comments »

According to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/12/dell-dropping-xps-focusing-on-alienware) Dell is going to be dropping the XPS product line and focusing on the Alienware brand for gaming and high performance computing. Promote this Idea to let Dell know that we need to keep the XPS desktop and laptop product line. 31 Comments »

Laptops/mousepad

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by radiohaze May 8

Why are mousepads on the left-hand side of laptops, when most of us are RIGHT-HANDED, using a mouse with our RIGHT hand and the keyboard with our LEFT ? I'm finding it incredibly frustrating, trying to find a laptop that doesn't force me to use it left-handed. 13 Comments »

Support

Service and Support submitted by crayonj 02/18/07

Create a way for consumers to get local support when they purchase a Dell Product.

We should be able to enter a zip code in a data base and have selections of who can assist someone when they have computer issues in their area.

In my opinion, this is easier than calling a toll free number. 15 Comments »

XPS M1530 Enhancements

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by vanza Apr 25

The specs of the M1530 look great, but there are some enhancements that would make it much better. A few that have been already proposed:

. Gigabit Ethernet
. Non-glossy screen option
. GeForce 8700 graphics card

And a few I haven't seen here yet:

. e-SATA port
. S/PDIF or optical audio out in the default config.
. move one of the headphone connectors to the side for the above connection.

I know you currently can get S/PDIF out with the Sound Blaster XFi. But that card is not supported on Linux - there are beta drivers, but no goodies like S/PDIF passthrough. Also, the relocated output port would make it less cumbersome to actually have the S/PDIF or optical cable connected to the computer. 5 Comments »

Add dedicated graphics to all Inspiron laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by ccpljat Apr 25

I want dedicated graphics to be added as an option on all the Inspiron laptops. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford the XPS systems. At least give the option for 128 MB dedicated on all Inspirons. Comment »

LED Screens for All Precision Laptops; Power Options for Precision Laptops

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by rjasso Apr 27

For the market (engineers, architects, etc.) that is being catered to by the Precision laptops, these laptops should have LED screens that offer better and richer colors and are less power-hungry. Further, the M6300 should have a media bay battery option as do its smaller siblings, the M2300 and M4300. 2 Comments »

Show Max Specs in System Descriptions

Desktops and Laptops submitted by dfrandin Apr 23

It would make research on ordering Dell systems if the maximum values of RAM, hard drive size etc, were shown on the system description pages. A good example of what I'm talking about: The Optiplex 755, shows on the memory section, "Up to 4.0GB DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM, 800MHz, (4DIMM)". However, if you take the time to read the online Optiplex service manual, you find that the system supports
2GB DIMMs, for a total of up to 8GB.. A non-technical user would not know to double-check the service manual to find that information out.. Also the Storage entry states "Up to SATA 3.0Gb/s, RAID 1 Data Security, Capacities up to 250GB".. I strongly suspect that the 755 is not limited to a 250GB drive.
In the case of RAM, with 64Bit OS becoming more popular and RAM (other than Dell) dropping in price, the 8GB support on the 755, I'm sure, will be heavily used. Please let your customers and potential customers learn this info without resorting to reading the service manual... 3 Comments »
