I'd love to see a "Trade In" Program and/or initiative, where a customer who's been a long time customer could trade in an old system for a new one, or at least, a good sized discount. Service and Support submitted by zmaz 05/06/07
I'm not an idiot, so don't treat me like one! When I call the customer support hotline, I'm tired of being told to "click twice on the that looks like the world behind a brick wall" or something like that. Customer service reps should be able to recognize that if I'm asking, say, what port I need to open to do X or Y, or something of the like, I'm probably not a user who doesn't know how to turn the computer on. Instead, how about "You need to open port *number* UDP and port *number* TCP. Do you know how to do that? XP Home and Professional available on all machines when ordering online Dell Web Site, Operating Systems submitted by plavelle 05/24/07 You are currently limited when ordering online to only certain models being pre-loaded with XP, however if you call dell you can have it installed on any machine. Please vote to have this option available on all machines when ordering online. 3 Comments » Use NERO as your pre-installed Burning software instead of Roxio Software submitted by cashcar1979 05/14/07 Roxio seems to drain many resources and is not as robust a software as Nero. Or at least give customers the choice of getting Nero installed instead of Roxio. 2 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by bajtalan.hunor 02/24/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
In my opinion nowadays colors like gray or black are getting too old. Why Dell does not follow other companies like Sony or Apple or the tiny Flybook. People like colors because it expresses their personality, not everybody is a businessman or businesswoman, we like colors. For example white is getting more and more popular but there are other trendy colors out there. Sales Strategies submitted by yank 05/20/07
Plenty of people spend a LOT of time shopping around on Dell's site for a great deal. They trust the brand and haven't the time or interest to build there own PC so when they see a good deal they try and buy that new Dell PC with as few options as they can manage. Sell more desktops without monitors, keyboards, etc Desktops, Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by gordonbrown77 02/16/07 **COMING SOON** Make it an option to not get things people may already have when upgrading a PC such as monitors, mouse, keyboard. This would be good environmentally and save people some money if they already have theae things and will not be keeping the old PC. 33 Comments » Gaming, XPS products submitted by dell_admin1 04/25/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Participate in the product design process! Dell is using IdeaStorm to decide between two new product design concepts. Vote on your favorite and weigh in to tell us what you think. When we unveiled the XPS 710 H2C at CES this year, we also uncovered it. There were a limited number of systems sprinkled throughout the show floor that had a clear side panel allowing easy viewing of the patent-pending two-stage H2C liquid cooling system. Since then, more than a few people have suggested we offer a “panel with a view” as an option for our XPS 710 line. Now we need you to vote for one of these two options and, most importantly, share some reasons why you like it. This “Now You Decide” vote campaign will be open from Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most votes will be featured in a future generation of XPS gaming desktops. Check out the latest Idea in Action on the new XPS 730. 108 Comments » Work with gaming companies to promote Linux gaming Gaming, Linux submitted by homerhomer 05/07/07
Dell is an huge step for Linux and they have a huge voice for the computer community . I would love to see Dell talking to gaming companies on bringing there products to Linux. Sales Strategies, Software submitted by mcneiljohn 05/06/07
Completely eliminate all crapware on new computers, but provide access to all trial software versions on a dvd requiring conscious action by the user to install and provide a booklet with a brief description of the promoted products. Laptops submitted by badblood 05/19/07
Produce a Laptop where everything can be upgraded. Asus is doing it - and here it is: Recycle & refurbish old Dell PCs back to Dell for 10% discount Environment submitted by reg 05/18/07
Recycle your old Dell back to Dell for a 10% discount on new equipment. Dell can then secure overwrite erase the hard drive, install Ubuntu + hardware drivers, then donate the hardware to unemployment, food stamp, and welfare offices Nationwide. The social services offices then can pass out the refurbished used equipment to its clients, and Dell can be given BIG tax breaks by the State and Federal Systems. Linux Hardware Compatibility List Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by s3indiana 02/20/07 **IN PROGRESS**
Create a listing of Dell hardware that's compatible with the major Linux distributions (Fedora, OpenSuse, ubuntu, Freespire) providing compatibility with not just systems (desktops and laptops) but include peripherals (printers, camera's, flash drives, compatible routers, etc.). Include levels of compatibility so the reviewer can make an educated choice. This would provide the greatest assistance for those looking at alternatives... I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. Geeks to Grandmas - Service Customization Service and Support submitted by dell_admin1 05/18/07
Dell wants your feedback on the following idea intended to improve customer service and support: coreboot (formerly LinuxBIOS) instead of proprietary BIOS Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by yesmathew 02/20/07
coreboot (formerly known as LinuxBIOS) is a Free Software project aimed at replacing the proprietary BIOS (firmware) you can find in most of today's computers. Pre-installed Linux must play commercial DVDs Education, Linux submitted by jonmca 05/03/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
You probably know this, but a "show stopper" requirement for most consumers and many educators and business road warriers is having laptops and desktops that can play commmercial DVDs. I have a hunch that preinstalled Linux on Dell machines will be a terrific success if Dell Linux desktops and laptops have this capability. I've been told that http://www.videolan.org/ has one possible approach. Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
