Bundle Splashtop to Dell Laptop/Desktop

Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by fjordan Apr 21

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Dell bundles Splashtop Instant-on/Instant-off OS to its laptop/desktop offerings?

Aren't most of you feel the pain of having to wait forever for Windows to boot-up or shutdown or even going in/out of hibernation?
Given that most of us (90%+) are web surfers, skype, messenger users and media playback, believe Splashtop can take care these exact needs ... It would be lame if Dell don't pursue this aggressively to take back the No.1 spot that's taken by HP recently...

Honestly speaking, I never liked HP laptop/desktop design, no matter how many awards they have won recently... okay, it's fair to say that Dell is like consumer car and Mac is the more luxury ones, but we all deserve as speed/fastness... believe there are many souls out there longing for an instant-on/off type of env that we can do mostly what can do...

let's pitch Dell on this... 2 Comments »

Give us real bios control

Desktops and Laptops submitted by retro Apr 21

Give us all full control of our hardware, I hate entering a bios and seeing only the most basic settings and not much of them, I may get some faster ram and want to set the cas or i may want to adjust my hard drive settings. 10 Comments »

Offer No OS Option on all PCs for Home / Small Business Markets

Operating Systems submitted by gear Apr 22

Why not sell PCs with no OS installed and just include the drivers disk for popular OSes that are known to work on it like (XP, Linux, and Vista).

I already have licenses for XP and Linux and I can install my own here.

Having the drivers disk would mean I don't have to download them. 3 Comments »

All together now

New Product Ideas submitted by tonylinde Apr 22

I'd like to see a PC developed which consists of a desktop, laptop, PDA, MP3 player and other 'components', each of which can be removed from the main assembly or added back into it.

Each component has its own chip and memory so that it can act on its own but in the main assembly desktop all the components act in concert and can be used by the others. Plugging the laptop into the main assembly will add the laptop's LCD as a second screen, the drive will add to the desktop list of available drives and the cpu and ram can be used as a secondary processor by the main processor.

An alternative is that plugging the laptop into the desktop makes the whole unit available akin to a virtual machine with drag-and-drop working between the two.

Plugging a pda or mp3 player into either the laptop or the desktop also makes the ram and any inserted flash drives available to the larger processor but they can also act as 'virtual machines' as above with the laptop.

The key benefit to all this is that no-one need ever have to shift content from one device to another and, when stacked together, each unit performs its own job as before but can also do so in concert with all the others. 3 Comments »

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Price cut in Half, Dell needs to pass this on to customers

Sales Strategies submitted by hal2001 Apr 22

I think most of us who post here are smart shoppers and are going to be watching to see what Dell will do with this Intell price cut . Dell could play the Intell ball that's in there court now and bring back Dell sales and be a winner for the customer to. Let's see if price cuts start posting on their web site. Faster processors at lower cost equal better sales and happy customers. 4 Comments »

Warranty reminder - Online Warranty/Support Extension

Service and Support submitted by phubert Apr 23

O.K. comments?

Could Dell provide an _optional_ service to periodically check the remaining warranty on a system and warn perhaps 3 months prior to expiration? Then offer, as appropriate, a link to extend the warranty online?

This could be available for all levels of machines with any operating system.

Could it be offered as an icon that the USER could periodically check, rather than as a PROCESS (i.e. the user would have to manually run the process rather than having something run automatically at every bootup (which might be very infrequent, anyway, for servers!).

Other ways??? Are there other things that could be checked?
Could this be rolled into a product that checked for firmware and driver upgrades, for example? 10 Comments »

Introduce a "No Component" Option When Customizing

Environment, Service and Support submitted by fahdriyami Apr 23

Intoduce an option to not choose a PC component especially for the XPS Desktop Range, most of Gaming Consumers have already built a PC before and have some of the essential components already, for example, i already have a compatible Intel processor and want my Dell shipped without a processor to save money. a "No Component" limit should also be applied, and not all components should have this option. Talking from a business point of view, this could reduce electronic waste in the long run, however it could also reduce sales of the components which could upset manufacturers...
BUT, the earth is more important. 28 Comments »

Offer NVIDIA's new chipset in your systems

Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Apr 23

NVIDIA is releasing a new single-chip integrated chipset for "small form factor" notebooks.

Each variant incorporates a DX10-capable GeForce graphics controller supporting Shader Model 4.0, NVIDIA's VP3 video processor, and support for Hybrid Power/Hybrid SLI/Hybrid Performance.

In addition, they feature a single-channel TMDS interface for HDMI 1.2, support for a 1066 MHz FSB, 800 MHz DDR2, 1333 MHz DDR3 memory support, 3 Gbps SATA/eSATA, NVIDIA DriveCache (similar to Intel Turbo Memory), an NVIDIA GbE controller, High Definition Audio, TPM 1.2, and up to 20 PCIe 2.0 lanes.

Construction Printer

Printers and Ink submitted by bapepper2 Apr 23

If you want to capture the printer market consider focusing on the construction market (the largest industry in the nation). My wish list:
1. 11x17 color
2. Laser
3. 2 trays (8.5x11 & 11x17 with 250 or 500 sheet capacity...reem of paper, duh)
4. front and back capable
5. scan straight to PDF
6. tough
7. networkable/wireless
8. copy (enlarge/reduce 10% to 1000%?)
9. scan (4800dpi x 4800dpi?)
10. fax (pc-fax)
11. print (fast)

Also need a portable see through scanner for scanning plans 8.5x11 would be a good start but 11x17 would be great. Similar to the HP ScanJet 4600 See-Thru Flatbed Scanner but without a back. You would just lay the scanner on the plans and be able to see what you are scanning. This is a huge problem for Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Owners... We usually have to disassemble 200 pages of 30"x42" plans, fold up the page you want and put it on a scanner. I can not believe that this market has not been tapped.

I would be glad to give you more feed back and help with product design features/testing in the field. 6 Comments »

Show Max Specs in System Descriptions

Desktops and Laptops submitted by dfrandin Apr 23

It would make research on ordering Dell systems if the maximum values of RAM, hard drive size etc, were shown on the system description pages. A good example of what I'm talking about: The Optiplex 755, shows on the memory section, "Up to 4.0GB DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM, 800MHz, (4DIMM)". However, if you take the time to read the online Optiplex service manual, you find that the system supports
2GB DIMMs, for a total of up to 8GB.. A non-technical user would not know to double-check the service manual to find that information out.. Also the Storage entry states "Up to SATA 3.0Gb/s, RAID 1 Data Security, Capacities up to 250GB".. I strongly suspect that the 755 is not limited to a 250GB drive.
In the case of RAM, with 64Bit OS becoming more popular and RAM (other than Dell) dropping in price, the 8GB support on the 755, I'm sure, will be heavily used. Please let your customers and potential customers learn this info without resorting to reading the service manual... 3 Comments »

Stop overcharging for Xeon

Desktops submitted by shadow010 Apr 23

Simply put, if you compare prices of the optiplex systems with xeon processors with processors from newegg you see that Dell prices most of the exact same processors $200 higher than newegg. 2 Comments »

DON'T BUY RADIO SHACK!!!

Dell submitted by jervis961 Apr 23

There is a rumor out that Dell is trying to buy Radio Shack.

http://tinyurl.com/6dzwte

While I would like to see some Dell stores this is not the way to do it. Just about every Radio Shack I've been in is a run down mess and not the place I would think of for cutting edge tech. Dell needs to build up its brand not sink it lower. 18 Comments »

Discounts for schools when parents buy Dell computers for their child

Sales Strategies submitted by jervis961 Apr 24

Dell currently gives a percentage off a Dell system to college students but not middle and high school ones. I say give the same discounts to middle and high school student's parents but with a twist. Offer a deal where parents get the same price as the regular Dell site and the discount goes to their child's school to purchase new computers. You could even extend the deal out to everyone who buys a Dell system to select a school for the money to be applied to. 11 Comments »

Dell laptop design needs refining

Laptops submitted by mattbambow Apr 24

Grey and black is no longer has the cache it once had, wouldn't it be better for Dell to take a slightly alternative approach on some laptops by creative cutting-edge, bespoke styled laptops for consumers. Laptops could be designed in terms of look and feel by those within the Dell Ideastorm, or designers themselves similar to the way that Sky+ has outsourced design to be able to charge a premium. 1 Comment »

A NEW AGE FOR LAPTOPS BEGiNS """" PORTABLE LAPTOPS """"

Laptops submitted by fatihbarut Apr 7

Laptops must be portable. And all parts of it (CPU-RAM-Video Card) must be replaceable like cd-dvd driver or battery of the laptop. (picture 3
http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wholelaptopbt0.jpg )

Lets think I am a customer who has 750 dollars. And want to buy a new laptop. Then I go to dell shop. There are stands in shop. Which start with laptop cases (
picture1
http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=caseed0.jpg

picture2
http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=casescreenbr6.jpg
) and continue like this

Case(15 inc -17 inch -21 inch) -> Screen -> (15 inc -17 inch -21 inch) -> CPU -> Ram -> video card -> audio card -> HDD-> DVDrom -> mouse and EXİT.

I can chose what ever I want. And build my system exactly what I need, and upgrade it when ever I want...
Just this. No waste of anything. And easily upgradable systems. 2 Comments »

Cancel Orders Online

Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by godzilla Feb 7

It's time Dell started to value their customer's time. Dell makes it fairly easy to order some items, but when the need to cancel an order arises you make it nearly impossible, or more typically a PITA.

I just spent 15+ minutes waiting on hold (according to the clock on my phone) before I even got into your bizarre menu system. Then I had to wait (I'm still waiting at 27 minutes) for something mysterious to happen on the other end with your rep.

As customers, we deserve to work with a company that makes it easy. total time now,,,, 29 minutes 27 seconds. Disgusting... 1 Comment »

Eraser Head Mouse

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by cjbarth Jan 4

While touchpads are certainly easier for some people to work with, nothing compares to the speed and accuracy of an eraser head mouse on a notebook, especially while working in a car or in other unfavorable conditions. Please make the eraser head mouse either optional or standard on all notebooks. I shouldn't have to get a business line notebook to benefit from this really simple feature.

In addition, it would be very nice if you had the scroll button like ThinkPad’s do. They have a blue mouse button that you press while moving around the eraser head mouse that would cause the screen to scroll and pan. That is so much more effective than working with the edges of a touch pad.

Build and Advertise Printers that don't lie, cheat, and steal.

Advertising and Marketing, Environment, Printers and Ink submitted by jmxz 12/24/07

Inkjet printers have earned a well deserved horrible reputation as "filthy, lying thieves". Quoting that article "Printers routinely report that they are low on ink even when they aren't, and in some cases there are still hundreds of pages worth of ink left." I have the best printer from that study - which still wastes "only" 9 percent of ink - and has the annoyance that it'll even refuse to print "black and white only" when one of the color cartridge's is dry.

Printers also have earned the well-deserved horrible reputation as devices that are"Spying On You". Advertise which of your printers spy on customers and make at least some models that don't.

One of Dell's competitors is currently getting lots of bad press over their $8000-per-gallon printer ink. This means the timing could be perfect for Dell to challenge them in the Printer market.

This is an *excellent* opportunity for Dell to fight back with "The Honest Printer". Make a printer that

  • Doesn't lie about being out of ink when it's not.
  • Has reasonably priced ink - even if the printer may cost more.
  • Encourages rather than discourages environmentally friendly refills
  • Doesn't spy on you.

It'll build up Dell as a Brand That Can Be Trusted - something that's been sorely lacking for quite some time 2 Comments »
