healthcare integration

Healthcare submitted by hodsondds Jan 30

I am a dentist. Currently there is very little intigration between dental software programs and vendors of products such as digital cameras , digital x-rays , intraoral cameras , paperless charting programs , internet links to share chart information and X-rays, the list goes on and on. Each dental software vendor have their own proprietary codes that they will not share with other companies. The links they provide are cumbersome to use and seem designed to discourage the use of all but a few products provided by "sister" companies.Perhaps Dell would consider envolvement in this field. 8 Comments »

Dell handhelds can be empowered by softwares in the HEALTH field

Healthcare, New Product Ideas, Software submitted by ahmadvand Mar 28

Dell handhelds can be empowered by softwares in the HEALTH field. I think (according to my 4 year experience in our Ministry of Health and Medical Education) and it is obvious (according to researches I have done for health software market and 2 years of experience with networking for health using Microsoft technologies) that there is a very huge gap in this part of the market. May I ask you to help me find any possible way to interact with developers and find better communications channel to send ideas (and maybe collaborate in their development).

Yours truly,

medical computer

Healthcare, Service and Support submitted by arthus 02/21/07

Pruduce a "medical computer".

the requirements are: to clean easily; smooth surfaces without recesses at the case; silent

what about a white Case?

Not even everything can be realized by Thin Clients so we need in some special rooms some special Computers (e.g. investigation rooms) to keep hygiene regulations. 2 Comments »

Stripped down, fast Linux Box

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Linux submitted by pawprintz 02/17/07 **REVIEWED**

How about a fast, Internet ready Linux desktop. Small form factor, pretty monitor, mouse & keyboard, the O.S., OpenOffice & Firefox. Cheap'n'fast

Dell sees the value of this idea, and is keeping the sugestions for a Linux small form factor on the radar. john_h will let the community know of any new information as it comes.

Stop Making Canadian Purchases 20% More Expensive Than US

Dell, Sales Strategies submitted by canadaboy Apr 9

I just did the pricing of a Inspiron 1720 on the US and Canadian versions of the web (www.dell.com, www.dell.ca)

The price for the exact same models and warranty (3 year complete care, onsite):

US: $2331
CND: $2767

Difference: 18.7%, $436 Difference

This is not unusual, and it's actually grown very negative in my approach to Dell as a Canadian customer (and I love Dell). It's hard to understand why the cost difference exists as it does.

Now, I understand that each country is tweaked for it's own buying habits (example, the US site starts with a warrenty push, and the options are presented slightly differenty than the Canadian site), and I assume that it's to maximize country based biases into better margins. That's cool (really), upselling through options and the way they are presented is really cool.

But when pricing out the same products, the prices should be in line. Otherwise, just get the feeling the Dell is really a big US company which doesn't care about other country markets. 8 Comments »

Interchangeable Master Channels (IMCs) for Dell mini Inspiron

New Product Ideas, Software submitted by goto May 29

Dell Corporation ought to have a look at interchangeable Master Channels (IMcs) in connection with the mini Inspiron. Interested parties can get a sense of the relationship between IMCs and another new idea (which like mini laptops is an idea) whose time has come: namely, two Internets, one public, the other private .This URL has a comment (#2) frelated to IMCs. The related Web address is: http://www.circleid.com/posts/do_we_need_two_internets/.

IMCs allow computer manufacturers to in effect bundle a private version of the public Internet into a software application that comes with the computer. The software app allows purchasers of the computers to set up their own thematically arranged "brand" channels where the term "brand channels" means level three channels that attach to the level two master channels in the dot-com name space.

The present network of IMCs has 750 master channels or "pods" layered across the public Internet in the dot-com top level of the Web. For example, airpod.com, bookpod.com, carpod.com and so on are examples of dot-com "pods" that are presently layered across the public Internet in connection with of the everyday products, services and topics that interest most of us.

Thus, owners of new mini laptops can aggregate thematically relevant content in their OWN level three master channels. Privately labeled channels can take the name of the new computer owner, or even the the laptop computer itself, which means that new computer purchasers can thereby begin the process of creating their own private Internets in the form of thematically arranged content channels that "reside" inside the public Internet, in the dot-com name space.

For example, myname.masterchannel.com becomes a private Internet channel where (for example) myname.airpod.com might relate to a new computer user who is interested in civil aviation and can also join other laptop owners in a civil aviation "airpod".

Content aggregations created by new laptop owners also allow (a) subsidized laptop prices for computer manufacturers by brand name entities that intend to encourage brand awareness among consumers, say, united.airpod.com; and (b) consumers who intend to aggregate thematically arranged content of various kinds can themselves liaise with brand name "sponsors"of the brand channels, in which case the laptops themselves can be used to make money which can gradually defer or even eliminate the entire cost of laptops for interested content aggregators.

The present network with the (previously mentioned) 750 IMCs or product and service "pods" in the dot-com name space can simultaneously accommodate almost every conceivable brand name entity anywhere in the world. The present IMCs network can never again be replicated on the public Internet. Comment »

Allow Anti-Virus as Optional

Sales Strategies, Software submitted by rgb66rgb 09/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Some purchasers already have subscriptions to anti-virus products that can be ported to new systems. Not having a 'no anti-virus' option on every system order page forces those users to essentially buy two licenses when only one machine will be used.

Let your customers choose which Internet Search company you sell them to.

Dell, Dell Web Site submitted by jmxz Jun 2

In some ways you (and HP) clearly see see Google and Microsoft as the real "customers" (who are always right), and see Dell Users as the "product" you're selling -- in much the same way TV companies see their audience as the product they sell to advertisers.

One obvious example is where you and HP sell your users to the highest bidding search engine at the possible expense of the user experience of Dell users.

I realize that a couple years back, Google called you "its secret weapon" against Microsoft and described how they were "ecstatic" about partnering with you. And I realize that you and Google made some slightly annoying error pages presumably to make even more money from Google at the expense of your users.

It seems this bidding for Dell Users is heating up again: Today I see that microsoft signs [a new] search distribution deal with HP presumably to inflict similar annoying things on their customers.

Ideas:

Idea 1. Rather than sell all your users to the highest bidder - make a deal with both of the search companies, and let your customer choose which subsidy they want when ordering.

Default Search Engine
[_] Use Google as a default search engine - save $5
[_] Use Microsoft Live search as a default search engine - save $30.
[X] Use Yahoo as a default search engine - $0

Idea 2. Note that in the proposed form in Idea 1 you pass this subsidy on to your customer. This way people buying Dells will feel more like the real customer and less like the product you're selling to Google and Microsoft. 20 Comments »

Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser

Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**

Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF.
Firefox advocates at Dell have initiated discussions and driven action around exploring alternative internet browsers and experiences. As you can tell from our response to the Linux community, open source continues to be a part of our conversations about new products and services.

Make both cords detachable on A/C Power Adapters

Laptop Power submitted by goldschool May 8

Dell just had to send me a new A/C power adapter because a short developed in the cord that attaches to the computer (at Dell's cost under my warranty). The cord that plugs into the electrical socket is already detachable, but the cord from the adapter to the computer is not. Had the latter been detachable, Dell could have saved itself money by replacing just the cord and not the whole adapter. The main part of my old adapter is perfectly good but now must be trashed because of the short in the cord (which developed in or right behind the plug which might make it hard or impossible to repair). Here's a way for Dell to save money on warranty replacements and keep perfectly good power adapter units out of the land fills. 1 Comment »

Additional options for the XPS M1730

XPS products, Laptop Power submitted by killadaedalus May 24

The main disadvantage to the XPS m1730 is the battery life. Many other companies- such as Alienware- offer "smart bays" these are additional bays in which an extra optical drive, hard drive, or (in this case) it would be a very good idea to have an additional battery. I believe that you do offer something similar to this but not in this version of the laptop. With the addition of an extra battery gaming on the go does not need to stop every hour or so.

Another idea to help extend battery life is giving this laptop the ability to switch off the duel graphics cards when they are not being used to significantly increase battery life.

My final point is that Dell should offer the "Intel® Turbo Memory" This is basically an extra 1GB of RAM which is used to store the most frequently used files of the computer, so when you come to use these files again they are loaded from this cache and not the hard drive. Hence greatly decreasing the time taken. 3 Comments »

Sell AC adapters at retail stores

Advertising and Marketing, Laptop Power submitted by undead999 May 7

Since Dell is selling computers at retail outlets offer ac adapters for laptops at best buy, staples and anywhere you sell laptops. Also offer ac adapters at your kiosks.

AC adapter usually fail without warning, waiting days or weeks for a replacement AC adapter is not always an option for many users. Generic adapters dont always work on Dells, in addition many are underpowered espicially for 17 inch models Comment »

Power Cable

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by mbhmirc May 19

Make both cables on laptop PSU's replaceable. It' costs around £90 to replace a power unit when the cable at the laptop end becomes damaged. Making both ends detachable will allow for the cable to be replaced instead of the whole unit. 3 Comments »

Add USB port 5V supply to Laptop Powersupply units

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by michael.schwarz May 14

Today a travelling laptop user has often additional mobile devices which are charged by the USB port like Music players, mobile phones, PDA's etc. To charge these the Laptop unfortunate must be switched on. If the Transformator/ power supply for Laptops would have an USB power supply connector, - devices could be charged indendent from running the Laptop. (e.g. at nigth in Hotel)

I experienced such capability some time ago by an third party Power supply and found it very valuable.

If this would be added to Dell Laptop power adapters it would offer and added value to the today mobile Users. 1 Comment »

Cut the cost of a 9-cell battery upgrade

Sales Strategies, Laptop Power submitted by ccpljat May 6

Yes a 9-cell is more powerful and lasts longer, but $169? Come on. It can't be that much. Cut down the price to honestly reflect the difference. I mean good grief, you can buy a 9-cell replacement for an Inspiron 1720 for $154! An upgrade is always supposed to be less.

FIX IT, DELL!!!! 8 Comments »

Hot-swappable laptop batteries.

Laptop Power submitted by jmxz May 31

I'd like to be able to swap the battery on my laptop without having to turn it off or hibernate it. It seems you could do this by putting a large capacitor or tiny internal battery that could provide power for the 30 seconds or so it takes to switch to a spare battery. Another way you might be able to do this is instead of having one big battery in each laptop, have 2 small ones instead; and you could swap them one at a time.

If it was really easy to swap them I'd probably buy more spare batteries; so I could go most of the day without plugging in the laptop (and then I'd want an external charger so I could charge them all overnight). 25 Comments »

Measure Green

Dell, Environment submitted by yesmathew 09/26/07

How does Dell measure Green?

Forbes.com: Measuring Green
by Andy Greenberg,

Innovators in the green information-technology movement reap good publicity from their ever-higher standards of energy efficiency. The real goody two-shoes, however, inflict those standards on their competitors.

more ... http://www.forbes.com/technology/2007/09/25/sun-green-software-tech-sciences-...<

So Dell should do something in this direction too...
- where Dell can talk about their contributions to green
- where Dell vendor can talk about their contributions to green
- where Dell customer can talk about their contributions to green
- ... ?
