Do not scale back build-to-order systems Desktops and Laptops submitted by masterr Apr 5 **ALREADY OFFERED**
Today in the news I read that Dell "is moving away from its build-to-order model to reduce costs. Dell is limiting the degree to which buyers can dictate specifications while expanding its line of prepackaged models". Please do not do this. The options build-to-order system is what sets Dell above some of the competition. By scaling this back and removing customization choices you remove some of the appeal of buying a Dell machine online. Please do not scale this back. Monitors and Displays, Laptop Power submitted by yardsale Jan 16 I dont know why dell hasnt done this yet. switch all monitors on desktops and notebooks to LED. did you know that you can run an LED screen at full brightniess and it uses less power than a LCD monitor at the lowest brighting level?!? its cheaper, its energy efficent, and it needs to be done! promote this, if you demote i wanna know why! 46 Comments » Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself. Have Opera pre-installed browser Software submitted by envek 02/19/07
Opera is fast, standart compliant, free of charge (on desktops), lite, powerful and crossplatform web-browser. Idea: catch up to these guys implementing IdeaStorm Ideas faster than you Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by jmxz 07/19/07
This Idea is that other vendors seem to be implementing the top-voted IdeaStorm Ideas (no crapware & Open Office) faster than you - and you could catch up with them. Dell - please stay focused on the highest-voted ideas, though. Don't distract yourselves with this one until you've addressed the ideas below which have been the top-ranked ideas for at least 6 months without adequate responses..

De forma simples e objetica quero dizer que minha ideia é a seguinte: Dell shoulld give multiple OS pre install Operating Systems - Multiboot submitted by winner 07/20/07 **NOT LIKELY** Their are many users who have problems while using vista.when they come to know that vista is not working well,They go for XP .So why not preinstall both XP & vista in the same computer. 13 Comments » Silent / Quiet Computers: Sound levels in decibels Desktops and Laptops submitted by pchris 02/17/07 **REVIEWED**
I'd like Dell to provide the sound level in decibels for each of their desktops, under max load as well as at idle. Software submitted by ootleman 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS. Education, Sales Strategies submitted by cnmopt 02/18/07 **ALREADY OFFERED** Similar to Apple, Dell should offer students a special discount on Dell Products. The Apple market share is currently growing in the education sector and offering [college] students a discount would be useful to counter Apple's strategy. 42 Comments » Recycle & refurbish old Dell PCs back to Dell for 10% discount Environment submitted by reg 05/18/07
Recycle your old Dell back to Dell for a 10% discount on new equipment. Dell can then secure overwrite erase the hard drive, install Ubuntu + hardware drivers, then donate the hardware to unemployment, food stamp, and welfare offices Nationwide. The social services offices then can pass out the refurbished used equipment to its clients, and Dell can be given BIG tax breaks by the State and Federal Systems. Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Lease Option for Home Computers Environment submitted by markflacy 06/08/07
Provide a lease arrangement for non-commercial customers who would turn in their system at the end of a 2 or 3-year term for a new upgrade. This would ensure that all equipment goes back to Dell for recycling, disassembly, reuse, etc. Dell would retain ownership of the equipment, like a leased vehicle, so that the customer would never have to deal with disposal, replacement of faulty equipment, etc. Customer would get a discount coupon on the upgrade upon turning in the old equipment. Trade Up Program For Laptops and Desktops Sales Strategies submitted by mrdz 06/08/07 It would encourage dell Customers to stick with dell on there next purchase if dell were to buy back a system from it's original owner at a reduced price that could only be used as a type of dell dollars towards a purchase of a new computer. 1 Comment » Give us the ability to eject a disc from a laptop's drive when it is powered off. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by joeevil5000 06/06/07 I have heard a lot of people asking for a warning that you have a disc in your CD/DVD drive when you power it down. The best remedy for this is the ability to eject a disc even if the laptop is powered off. It would take an extremely minimal amount of power from the battery to pop open a disc drive. If the XPS M1210 can detect wi-fi networks with the power off, something like this shold be extremely simple. 7 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by fireball 03/07/07
There have been a number of ideas for offerings computers with some flavour of Linux preinstalled, and that's great. But, there are customers, who would still want to have benefits of Windows (still the majority of software applications are targeted at Win32 API and .NET Framework, not to speak about drivers for various consumer devices). Environmental Laptop Based on Solar Energy/Hydrogen Fuel Cell Environment, Laptop Power submitted by gchakra 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
What's smart for the environment is smart for Dell. Dell should build units that are degradable or can be easily recycled. Sure, its going to be a little more expensive, but it will be a smart product. It will use a lot less energy. The laptops could have a solar panel or be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The first microelectronic implementation of a fuel cell will give Dell a tremendous marketing boost. It will be incredibly popular with kids in college. Dell should make laptops that are designed to be modded New Product Ideas submitted by couger 06/07/07 I think that if Dell went with the geek revolution of hackers and modders and used it to their advantage i think Dell could have a big seller. If Dell promoted that the laptop could be easily customized and personalized then some people could make their laptops look amazing. Dell could even have a competition for who could make theirs look the coolest. 2 Comments » Get the basics right: fix customer support quality Service and Support submitted by somdeb 06/05/07
One of the reasons my last three notebooks were Dell was because I could count on good quality at low costs. Also, the fact that I rarely had to call customer service is a testimony to the quality of the product. track my votes
