You need to offer the choice of having the recovery info on separate disks rather than the hard drive. You could also help those who have in a partition to copy the info to CDS and then clear the partition. 1 Comment »
Since Dell now sells in Wal-Mart stores... Why should they not go all the way and have Dell kiosks in Wal-Mart stores, to provide sales, service, etc.? Dell could even take over the extra floor room Wal-Mart has from their now-defunct lay-away program. Dell could sell Dell pc's, service Dell pc's, and even other pc's. Wal-Mart is everywhere, so Dell could, through such a partnetship, provide local service in every neighborhood. It's a thought. Comment »
Dell Should use the MXM Universal Laptop GPU Connector on its laptops. By Having this we can upgrade our laptops so it will be future proof.
Example:
1) System with 8400M GS is ok for gaming now, but next year its will lagg behind with DX10 games.
2) You then buy a MXM GPU such as a 860M GT upgrade then replace it as just like a Desktop GPU. Simply pop out the old card and replace with the upgrade.
Something that is sadly lacking in monitors is good connectivity. Especially on large monitors, let's say 22 inches and up, this is a real shame.
Some people may already have a PC that has a TV tuner and are planning on getting a big screen. The question is, why buy a monitor when you get much better connectivity with a TV. On the other hand, if you have a TV tuner, you could still view and record TV on the monitor and get the many advantages in picture quality. Unfortunately this leaves you without all the other functions that a conventional TV would offer. Because of the lack of inputs, you can't connect multiple A/V devices to the monitor simultaneously, some not at all. For instance you might own an Xbox360 Elite or a PS3 and you want to hook it up with HDMI. I haven't seen a single decent monitor on the market that offers HDMI. You also might have a plethora of A/V equipment; an old VCR, a DVD player, a few game consoles, a camcorder, a cable or satellite box, ect...
You really would need many connectors in your monitor to make them all work at the same time. If you could have a monitor with Component, Composite, HDMI, S-Video, Optical and/or Coaxial S/PDIF Digital Sound connectors and maybe even SCART for the Europeans, you'd be all set, so long as you have a functioning TV Tuner in your PC. Meanwhile you would get superior picture quality over an HDTV and you would save a bit of money too. Throw in a remote and it's all you would ever need.
Now, of course many would say that you should just get a TV rather than a monitor, if you had this demanding needs. But like I stated, you would lose the superior picture quality. And it likely would cost you more.
So please Dell, take the initiative in this matter and fill the space in the market of versatile PC monitors. 3 Comments »
Make a laptop that is very upgradeable. Allow for it to be easily opened and have a wide array of removable parts. Give us the ability to swap out video cards, wifi cards, every component. This way we can buy the shell we want and if in 12 months a better video card is out we can upgrade to that without having to wait the usual 2 to 5 years that people wait before dropping a few grand on a new laptop.
If done right you would only need to make shells in a few sizes to accommodate the various LCD sizes. An ultra-portible with a slot loading optical drive that could be swapped out for other parts, such as an extra battery or new card readers, as well would be fantastic. Comment »
Target the going-to-college market with a machine the kids will love while not having parents suffer the sticker shock of an extreme gaming machine. Consider these features:
- The 65W duo core processors such as E6850 require no extra cooling support - The 8800 series graphics cards give a good range of options - The system should come with good speakers by default, with the option to upgrade to great - If a desktop selected, the system, monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard should be in a cool color scheme/skin – no more plain black, white, grey or red: this is not your parents PC - If a laptop, then cool color/skin options for the unit - as these machines travel about they will self-market themselves - Pitch the system as “all purpose” and “ready for years of work” – the kids can read spec sheets and will see that they can game on it and perhaps overclock it (their risk) - Make XP available as many colleges are not supporting VISTA yet - offer a wireless network card as the network card option (not as a USB plug on)
This market should offer a decent profit margin compared to battling the $298 Walmart computers Comment »
I am a current XPS M1210 owner and I love the system. It has a good balance of weight, size, and speed. However, one thing that keeps getting in my way is the two screws that are used to secure the Hard Drive. I'm always trying out new stuff on my PC and to protect my primary OS install; I usually just swap in a new hard drive. This is not too bad on the M1210, but it could be made alot easier if there were a simple latch securiing the hard drive( like the one on the battery ). I now carry a small phillips screw driver around with my laptop everywhere I go just so I'll be able to swap the hard drive out to try out the latest software. 4 Comments »

Years ago, the Dell web configuration screens gave you a simple list of all the available options. As an experienced IT professional working in a business environment, I do not need a 'wizard' to guide me through, forcing me to read advertising for items and services I don't want. Even less do I need a configuration tool that does not include options I must have.
Sadly, though the Vostro line looks promising, configuring a machine with the options I need turns out to be impossible.
Why doesn't Dell provide a bare-bones configuration tool that let's me choose exactly what I need, and nothing else? A classic example - if you opt to configure the mini tower (base price $649) with a better processor, more disk, and no monitor, I find that's not possible. While I understand some components in a system are incompatible, so are not a valid configuration, how can ordering a business machine without a monitor be an incompatibility?
WAKE UP DELL. You are still not providing a decent service to your busy IT professional clients. 1 Comment »
I would like to see docking station that have 2 DVI outs instead of one DVI & one analog (VGA). I am running dual monitors on my docking station now and the crisp clean look of the digital connection is far superior to my analog connection. It sure would be nice to have the exact same look and feel on my dual monitors. 5 Comments »
Network Card: 10/100. That a strait up show stopper. Even some of the Inspiron/Dimensions that they are cloned from have gigabit. It actually amazes me that Dell still sells PC’s with out gigabit. That is right out cheap and a lot of customers might not know what they are missing until its to late. 13 Comments »
9 Comments »
At the moment, no computers ship with an inexpensive multimodal pointer that can be used alternately as a mouse, trackball, or as an in-air pointer. Consider the one suggested, for example, at http://www.jixis.com/MultiModalPointer.htm. It could be offered for a minimal surcharge or as an independent accessory, and would vastly improve the computer use experience, particularly with laptops where space is limited. 2 Comments »
My D630 latitude came with Vista, I then reloaded it with Windows Server 2003, and all work great except the video drivers which allowed for dual monitors. I find it somewhat irritating that Dell will make such a robust laptop (faster than some servers) and not require that Intel provide video drivers for servers.
As you know, people do use server operating systems on their laptops as some applications such as (VMware server) only run on server OS. This is important for testing, staging and development.
Is there any real reasoning for not having dual monitor capability on the D630 laptop for server OS when it’s such a time saver and provide added value to the purchase? 2 Comments »
As a part of the people who are waiting for a new gaming laptop, I'd like to post an idea for a notebook. Most people are looking for other manufacturers who build gaming laptops, but the people who stick on Dell can't get a new one. (because Dell doesn't have a 'decent' gaming laptop with Santa Rosa or DX10)
- Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista or other (Linux...)
- Display: WUXGA+ display (1200 x 1920 pixels) with TrueLife: 17 inch
- Memory: 1, 2 or 4 GB DDR2 (or DDR3?) RAM @ 677 or 800 Mhz
- Hard Drive: 200 GB @ 7200 RPM, or 250-300 GB @ 5400 RPM
- Optical drive: Important!: BLU-RAY Disc Drive (BD/DVD/CD burner with double layer BD write capablilty), because Dell is in the BLU-RAY camp and BLU-RAY has the biggest capacity.
- Video card: also important: Nvidia Geforce 7950GTX (DX9) or an Nvidia Geforce 8700m (DX10). The 8700m is not as good as the 7950GTX, but it's more futureproof and supports DirectX10. Maybe it could be upgraded in the future to an Nvidia Geforece 8800m or even better.
- Sound Options: 2 speakers and a subwoofer, Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, Intel Pro 802.11a/b/n Integrated Wireless LAN
- Options: TV-tuner, Fingerprintreader (for fast passwords), second battery, mouse: Logitech MX Air or Logitech VX Revolution, Carrying Case: Axio Swift
- Ports: 4 or more USB-ports (better: 6 ports), Audio jacks (Microphone, Line in, headphone, S/PDIF out) at the front, FireWire, HDMI!
Hope all gamers agree with me and if Dell would realise this sytem, it will be the best and the fastest system you could buy! 2 Comments »
Their are many users who have problems while using vista.when they come to know that vista is not working well,They go for XP .So why not preinstall both XP & vista in the same computer. 13 Comments »
Just a sensible thought here; if Dell wants its Ubuntu PCs to sell in volume, we need more people to know about it. A link on the Dell homepage would be a start, and how about adverts on the TV? Or is Microsoft threatening legal action if you do that? Sorry, but from what I can gather, Microsoft would have you believe that mainstream commercial competition is against the law... 3 Comments »
This forum is a great idea to get Dell back to #1.
What I like to see is new and innovative styling across the board on notebooks and desktops. Dell's product line looks 5yrs old and needs a total refresh.
As you can see Apple Inc. is winning conumers hearts because Apple owners are actually proud of displaying them in the living rooms instead of hiding them. Get rid of that XPS desktop design that thing is so ugly.. and come up with something consumers would be proud of displying in their media rooms.
Also I would like to see Dell create a sleak new design for a media center box so we can utilize vista home for the entertainment room and display it next to my audio and video units.
Thanks for listening Mr. Dell.
Hope_l talks about how passionate we are about design in this thread. To read more about how this idea is being put into action click here. 222 Comments »
