Demote an Idea should require a Comment

IdeaStorm submitted by s3indiana 04/03/07

When an idea is demoted a comment should be required to give the original poster a perspective that was missed. It doesn't take much research to note those that are demoting for the sake of demoting... 70 Comments »

National Call Centers [and other Service Improvement Ideas]

Service and Support submitted by henrieb 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

As a corporate customer I like Dell's products and my USA customer support. I have read the web about all the people that have had problems with Dell customer service and mine and others are not isolated incidences. If you want people to be loyal take a hint from the corporate sales and give Home users even a little customer support. My corporate help does not read scripts, they have the power to take ownership and fix the problem. Granted I do buy Gold support. If Dell thinks it saves money for bad support; I have personally talked 20 or 30 people out of buying a Dell.

* Addition: After reading several of the comments on this topic it appears that what we really want is someone in customer support that will listen to us, and hopefully help us. Culture and language barriers just make this harder. Maybe a better way to track customer performance would be to find out if they really helped someone and not how fast they can end the call. Dell management needs to start taking ownership of this problem. Maybe Dell management needs to start calling Dell support with fake problems and see it the system they created can help them, it sure does not work for us.

Dell partners with The Air Car

Dell, Environment, Laptop Power submitted by reg 03/26/07

The Air Car runs on Compressed Air. It is the only car with NEGATIVE EMISSIONS RATINGS! Air is Cleaner coming out of it than going into it!

The Air compressor filters air as it goes into the car, and the car filters the air as it goes out. The Air car acts as a transportable atmospheric scrubber system.

Click the Air Car to see other models.

Dimensions: 3.84m, 1.72m, 1.75m
Weight: 750 kg
Maximum speed: 110 kmh
Mileage: 200 - 300 km
Max load: 500 Kg
Recharge time: 4 hours (Mains connector)
Recharge time: 3 minutes (Air station)

No Combustion, no pollution, no heavy electric battery, no heavy metals, no toxic leaks. It use just compressed AIR. Travel for only a few cents, instead of more than $2.00 a gallon of gas.

Burning gasoline is expressed as exploding expanding gases. Why use liquids at all, when AIR is so much cleaner, easy to store, and actually helps the environment?

"eject" button for USB devices

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by wkornewald 03/08/07

Many users just unplug their USB stick without unmounting the volume. It would be really useful to have "eject" buttons next to or above every USB slot, so you can easily eject any device before unplugging it. Those buttons should be illuminated when a device is plugged in and needs the eject command. Else, a smaller light should be used (to still give feedback). Comment »

Giving Dell owners discount on new machines

Sales Strategies submitted by allanjones 03/09/07

Every few years, people replace their computer. Dell should make it advantageous for existing Dell owners to get another Dell.

For me, it would actually be irrational to buy another Dell. The Inspiron 3700 I bought had keyboard problems, as did those bought by hundred of other people (lots of correspondence in the Dell forums; no acknowledgement of a problem from Dell). It must have been a design fault. I might have been tempted to buy another Dell if my ownership of one machine had given me a discount on buying a later machine.

Far from getting a discount, I'm worse off. The machine had an expensive repair (ineffective) and several replacement keyboards. They all stopped working properly. So, no more Dells for me. If Dell had been frank, and said 'OK there's a problem, but we'll give you 30% off this later model,' I just might have bought another. 1 Comment »

tiny print on service tags

Service and Support submitted by undead99 03/12/07

Perhaps Dell should look at the tiny font and color schemes used for service tags and express service codes. When i have to call Dell for support i find it hard to read the tiny print. Many companies today are requiring the consumer to read smaller print for service adding a level of frustration to the process, if you want me to find and relay the information, make it easy to find and easier to read. Dont forget to consider color schemes of the tag as this too makes the tags difficult to read. Comment »

Graphics Tablet PC

Desktops and Laptops submitted by ozzimundi 03/01/07

An extremely obvious market for Tablet PCs are designers and artists! I am pining for a Tablet PC with a decent graphics card and greater pen pressure sensitivity and accuracy than what is currently available on the market. To be able to draw directly on the image and fully utilize the effects of software like Corel Painter... (or even to be able to play games on a Tablet like an extra-large Nintendo DS would be pretty neat.)

I don't understand why no one seems to be appealing to this market - is the technology not small enough to work within the confines of a decently sized laptop? That's my theory as to why Apple hasn't done this already... 13 Comments »

Promote the ability for Video Editing and Graphic Design

Advertising and Marketing submitted by mdp 03/08/07

Dell computers have the ability to do a great job in video editing and graphic design. I know this- Unfortunately, not enough other people know it.

One of our company's employees said they need to get a iMac so they could do some video editing. I showed them what they could do already with the OptiPlex GX620 they had and they were thrilled. I asked why they thought they needed a Mac and it was becuase they saw a commerical on TV.

I like the PC market because there is actually competition between companies. However, it is more difficut for hardware, OS, and software companies to promote their abilities as a whole. Comment »

Backlit Keyboards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by rarmasu 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option.

I would actually pay extra for that convenience if the option was available.
This could be done for desktops or notebooks.
