Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by smotchberry 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Dell should adopt a Carbon Neutral program for its products or at least make it an option for consumers in their ordering process. People seem to have the impression that Apple is doing a lot for the environment, when the reality is - Dell's doing more and can do even more! Increase customization to hit the sweet spot with the geek community Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by mathoda 02/16/07 The geek community craves easily customizable computers, both in terms of the hardware and software. Their choices of hardware and software become reflective of their identity, in a way it isn't for non geek consumers. Apple laptops, while beautiful, aren't very customizable. To reach the geek community, Dell should aim to support the standards that the geekiest consumers prefer, such as an easy to choose from several different operating systems (ubuntu linux, other distributions of linux, bsd, vista, etc), several different choices of applications, etc. Dell should also let you customize more of your component choices for the hardware. While Dell may fear the customer support required for such customization, the geek community more than other communities is probably willing to have customer support open sourced (the way support for linux is supported by geek message boards) rather than be the traditional handholding required for mainstream customers. 5 Comments » Linux vs. Windows option on DELL Laptops Linux, Software, Laptops submitted by oliver 02/20/07
I've just received my nice DELL Notebook, but had to spend more than an hour to Remove: "Dell recommends Windows Vista™..." from any publication Advertising and Marketing submitted by tho.meier 02/21/07
It would be nice to see advertising without any Micro$oft, from Dell. I think there is enough advertising for MS from MS it self. Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by john_saddington 02/17/07
Dell should provide a way for customers to accrue rewards, or points, for purchases! I have bought a number of Dell computers over the years, and would love to see some appreciation for my allegiance! Service and Support submitted by xhotardx 02/24/07 How about auctually including real install cd's for the original OS. So when you have to reimage I dont have to spend 2 hours uninstalling stuff that I dont want. Why can these not be provided for free? If a consumer is paying for a license there is no reason that you cant front the 4 cents and give them a copy of that software (even microsoft is cool with that). 10 Comments » Preinstall linux and offer windows in virtual machine (vmware player or xen) Linux, Operating Systems submitted by mahei 02/19/07
The first thing i always do is to kick the preinstalled windows of the hard disk, install my favorite flavor of linux and then reinstall windows in a virtual machine for the few tmes i really need it. A Dell Laptop I can use on my lap! (without being burned) Laptops submitted by oldsalerogls 02/17/07
I proudly own a 2 year old dell laptop 600m- but it's got heat issues.. who can use their Laptop for 20 minutes before then Laptop begins to get more than warm..and your going to get possibly burned. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by theblackcat 02/19/07 Currently most desktop PCs come with 4 slots to insert RAM. This is extremely useful since it is often much more expensive in total to buy 1 DIMM then it is to buy 2 DIMMs that are each half as large. However, DELL laptops only come with 2 slots for RAM. So if you wanted to get 4 GB of RAM you would need two 2 GB modules, which is extremely expensive (as you can see on the website). However, if the laptops were to have 4 RAM slots instead of 2 then you could have four 1GB modules and save a ton of money (close to $500 on the Latitude D820, for example). At least on the larger laptop models there is plenty of space, the RAM modules are pretty small relative to the size of the laptop and the bottom of the motherboard is mostly empty space from the looks of things. This could also be extremely useful with the move to 64 bit processors, since they can use far more than 4 GB of RAM but currently it is not possible to have more than that simply because of how the laptops are designed. 2 Comments » Provide Notebook Battery Runtimes (for each configuration!) Laptop Power submitted by pchris 02/17/07
Please provide measured/benchmarked battery runtimes for your notebooks for all available configurations. Use a conservative realistic benchmark, PCMag.com for example, has used "MobileMark 2005 Battery Score" in it's notebook reviews. I know this is a lot of work to do, considering the multiple possible configurations, but Dell may be able to work with a reviewing company like PCMag.com, or an independent lab, or as a last resort, it may benchmark/measure a good number of common configurations. BloatWare Uninstall- single click software remove Software submitted by raymc 02/19/07 I understand the importance to Dell of the additional revenue stream collected from the suppliers of 'free' bundled software. So to shift the decision making process onto the customer, can Dell make the removal of such bundled software a single click choice 'remove bloatware' on first power-up of new products? Ergo Revenue stream retained and customer choice satisfied! 6 Comments » Lighter laptops - some suggestions Laptops submitted by amri64 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

How many of us have to buy multiple “AC / DC Adapter or power bricks” for each of electronic devices and laptops? I have power supply adapter for home, office and travel bag… about 2-3 of these for my laptop, cell phone and external hard disk or other devices I use. Linux, Laptops submitted by chrisrose.chrisrose 02/20/07 Boy, I sure would like to see a laptop shipped with linux. 13 Comments » Internet Laptop Design Contest Advertising and Marketing, Laptops submitted by mucho 02/16/07 In order to get direct input from Dell customers, and tie more closely with consumer trends, why not sponsor a contest over the internet to design a line of laptops for home/consumer use? This would tie into Dell's philosophy of direct relationships. So the new laptop would not only be built specifically for you, but also DESIGNED directly by Dell customers. Of course, designs would have to be reviewed by Dell engineers to be sure that they are technically feasible and can be built within cost constraints, etc... Seems like this could be a very cool way to design a new generation of home/consumer laptops thru collaboration directly with Dell customers. 9 Comments » Don't describe Windows as an "Upgrade" Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by stevefraser 02/19/07 If Linux is offered as the Operating System (As has been suggested many times on this site), don't describe an offer to purchase Windows as an "Upgrade", for example "Upgrade to Microsoft Windows for only $$$", Some other phrase should be used instead, such as "Add in Microsoft Windows for $$$", as the word Upgrade may give the impression that Windows is superior to Linux, and there are several people who would disagree with that statement. 8 Comments » Linux, Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by icicle 02/20/07
Sometimes I check out the new prices of DELL-Notebooks. In the section OS Selection there is only one opportunity: Windows Vista. New Dell Retail Store! Death to Mall Kiosks! Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by evilspell 02/16/07 Dell should open a retail store very similar to the Apple store. I know that they have small kiosks inside malls that they try to sell Plasma TV's and a couple laptops next to a guy selling knock off sunglasses and verizon cell phone sales sharks! Very unprofessional. Open a classy Dell Store and offer Tech support right in the store just like the Genius Bar in the Apple Store. 144 Comments » Dell Web Site, Operating Systems submitted by yop 02/19/07
I would like to see more choices of OS like... No OS, Linux, Windows. track my votes
