Add accessories section to most foreign countries.

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by stormrider451 Aug 14

In some foreign DELL sites, DELL has very little if any accessory options to choose from. Sometimes there isnt even a separate accessory section you can go to such as the case of my country, Puerto Rico. Alright, so you cant ship your computers from the US site to foreing countries, but im sure there shouldnt be any problem with accessories? I mean, how would getting a mouse from the US DELL site differ from getting a mouse from the BestBuy.com?

IDEA: Add accessory pages to foreing country DELL sites even if they are links of the US site accessory offerings and even if you ship them from the US. Maybe this way each foreign country will better their accessory offering when building computers, they can simply put (this accessory will arrive separately because of US shipment). Comment »

a new dell era!!!!

Dell submitted by comprevolution Aug 14

so when looking threw all of the posts i get a general prospective of what people are really looking for. I think that this idea if done properly could change Dell in the eyes of a huge group of people that have moved to other companies or custom built pc's.

Basically:

when people go to the dell site have some logo, or option that isn't a small link but large enough to be noticed.

When clicking on said logo it will take you to a section of the dell site like none before. where you can completely build a computer that is 100% custom to you. you start by picking a type

Laptop | Desktop | Server | other

you then choose a chassie

you could stick with the same options that are available today:

Inspiron | Studio | xps | Latitude |

or you could have it by size

14 | 15 | 17 | (other options for desktops)

then you can fill it with hard ware, where you will not just have 1 option but several for each peace of hardware.

Motherboard : intel, asus
Proc: Intel, Amd ...
Ram: size, brand,
GPU: Nvidia, ATI, PNY, ...
HDD: Seagate, Fugitsu, Samsung,
optical drives: brands and type
screen: size and quailty
even I/O's: logitec, microsoft, Dell

Then you go to software level:

Operating system: linux, windows, BSD
Preinstalled software: Anti virus, Photo Editing,
allow an option for no bloatware: I know these are advertisements to keep the price down... but AOL? really AOL? no one uses AOL!!

You should then have external options:

Chassie color:
Led's:
chassie wheels:
choose the color of the dell logo or allow for custom messages.

_________
you could still keep the same thing that you have going on which will allow people who don't know much about computers but know what they want it to do, to purchase a pre build system.

But also add this new section which will give those who do know what there doing freedom to configure what you would like.

I know that for this option i could just go to new egg and build a pc, but i'd like to have it all together and covered by a dell warranty.

let me know if i missed any steps. 13 Comments »

INSPIRON 1720

Inspiron products submitted by srikapardhi Aug 14

THE INSPIRON 1720 MODEL IS ONE OF THE BEST MODELS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET WITH EVERY FEATURE ENABLED IN IT.IT HAS ALSO SOME BASIC BACKLOGS TO BE DEALT WITH . THEY ARE
1)ITS SOME WHAT HEAVY(THE WEIGHT SHOULD BE REDUCED)
2)THRE ARE NO SEPARATE ON AND OFF BUTTONS FOR BLUE TOOTH AND FOR WI-FI TO BE HANDLED ON.IF THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE BUTTONS IT WOULD CONSERVE BATTERY LIFE.
3)IT DOES NOT HAVE HDMI PORT
4)AND IT DOES NOT HAVE BACKLIT LEYBOARD LIGHT
------------------------------------------------------------------------... THAT MAKE US THINK IT WOULD BE NICE IF 1720 HAVE IT
1)A FM RADIO WHICH IS COMMON IN THE MOBILE PHONES IN THESE DAYS
2)AN IR PORT USEFUL TO TRANSFER DATA
3)THE BACKLITE KEYBOARD
4)THE DOCK APPLICATION WHICH IS PRESENTLY INSTALLED BY THE DELL COMPANY.
5)A FINGER PRINT READER OR A FACE DETECTION SECURITY SYSTEM WOULD BE AMAZING IN THIS MODEL
------------------------------------------------------------------------... I HAVE VISTA HOME PREMIUM INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP EVEN THOUGH I TRIED MANY TIMES TO DUAL BOOT IT WITH XP PROFESSIONAL SP2 IT IS COPYING FILES AND NOT AT ALL INSTALLING THE MULTI OS MEANS XP INSTALLATION IS FAILING DUE TO SOME HARD DRIVE DRIVER PROBLEMS. TOTALLY I RATE INSPIRON 1720 AS 4.5 ON A SCALE OF 5 . I REOMEND ANY ONE TO SIMPLY BUY IT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER THOUGHT , WHEN U READ ALL THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES.
------------------------------------------------------------------------...
I ALSO REQUEST THE DELL TEAM TO PUBLISH A DOCUMENTATION ON 1)
HOW TO INSTALL DELL MEDIA DIRECT AND THE VISTA OS IF IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO RE INSTALL THE OS ALSO
2) ANOTHER DOCUMENTATION ON HOW TO DUAL BOOT IT WITH VISTA AND XP SP2 , ALSO THE DRIVERS REQIRED FOR VISTA AND XP ARE SAME ARE SAME OR NOT. WAITHING FOR THE DELL TEAM TO PUBLISH THE DOCUMENTATION ON DUAL BOOT FOR VISTA AND XP AND ITS TROBLE SHHTING METHODS .
THANKS TO DELL FOR THE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY. 9 Comments »

Dell should create a new tool for the next twebinar

Advertising and Marketing, Software, Simplify IT submitted by jervis961 Aug 14

Dell recently held a twebinar when they announced the new Latitude and Precision line up. People were able to view the event live via a video feed and ask questions on twitter simultaneously. While the new experience was great there is room for improvement. Post users had Twitter open in one window, the video stream in another and then the slides from the presentation would pop up in a third window. Dell should develop a new tool to bring it all together. The tool would have the video in one corner, your twitter account on the side and small versions of the slides than can be opened into a larger version if needed. I think this would help expand the experience for the next such event. 5 Comments »

Seperate BlueTooth Switch from Wi-Fi Switch

Broadband and Mobility, Laptop Power submitted by kknd1015 Aug 13

it can save more power if i can control bluetooth and wi-fi saperately, so that the bettary can last more time.
and as far as i know, wi-fi and bluetooth are both use 2.4GHz frequency, so it is better if we can turn off one of them when uer another, or we can avoid the interference. 6 Comments »

Faster BIOS updates

Service and Support, Software, XPS products submitted by qwik Aug 9

In the XPS 730 you ship an EVA 790 motherboard but you can't install EVGA BIOS updates. You have to wait for Dell to qualify a BIOS then we can install it. For XPS gamers, we need those BIOS updates faster. It takes you months to get a BIOS out and by the time it comes out EVGA is a few iterations in front of you. The BIOS updates help stablize overclocking, etc. Release these faster. Comment »

Driver NAMES!!!!

Dell Web Site, Inspiron products submitted by comprevolution Aug 8

So, i'm reinstalling windows xp on my inspirons 1420 and 531 and i'm really dis liking the fact that ever driver when i download it is named.
R12423508 which tells me nothing about nothing. I know that isn't across to board with other companies. I download an Nvidia driver from the Nvidia site and it says what it is. Could you please look into renaming drivers. even if it was just the brand or company of the hardware. but something like

Nvidia 8600 GT 2.7.2008

company| model or item | date created

this could be in any variation. 6 Comments »

Easy Moves

Education, New Product Ideas, Laptops submitted by passionpopprincess Aug 7

I was thinking about tiny little flip out wheels or some such thing on the base of my laptop so while its on my desk i can easily slide it out of the way to use my books while studying. I ended up making a little tray with wheels so I can move it out of the way easily. 7 Comments »

Limit Ideastorm's Embeded Graphics Size (Width)

IdeaStorm submitted by brokencrystal Aug 6

Limit the width of embedded graphics in Ideastorm so THIS doesn't happen again.

Example:
http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10091354/ModuleArm_for_UMPCMininotes

In the example the submitted graphics are covering the menu on the right of the website because the graphic width is too large. 10 Comments »

A Schedule For "Ideas In Action"

IdeaStorm submitted by brokencrystal Aug 6 **IMPLEMENTED**

It would be nice if you guys had a schedule that you kept for the "ideas in action" tab at the top of this page. The last time it was updated was on 7-17-08 and on 7-2-08 before that. If there is a schedule, I am not understanding it. Please update this section weekly or bi-weekly so we know when to visit the site for updates. A schedule would be nice, but we need to know what that schedule is for this idea to work.

Create a USB-Powered Aerosol Paint Sprayer that deletes any Linux partitions.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas, Software submitted by noxo Aug 3

Create a USB-Powered Aerosol Paint Sprayer that deletes any Linux partitions. This will be helpful for home and business paint projects. Include software that can track where the paint is sprayed, how much paint is left, and can be programmed to complete paint projects on it's own. Because the software will only run in Microsoft Operating Systems, it is also necessary for it to remove any traces of Linux, and install Windows over it automatically. 31 Comments »

XPS products submitted by mr.brightside Aug 3

it would be nice if a bios upgrade for xps laptops include the option to keep media buttons always on, and they may turn off when touched and slowly turn on again

like the inverse of what happens now when they're pressed 1 Comment »

Traing video for Ubuntu

Linux, Service and Support submitted by lightbulb Aug 1

Dell has a chance to stand out as a supporter of Ubuntu by actually offering people who would try it but are apprehensive, a tutorial on CD. Most new clients for Ubuntu are going to come from the Windows world and won't know (without a tutorial) just how easy it is to use.
Dell should offer one as an accessory on its site.

If you don't have one already, email me and I'll put you in touch with a guy who authored a 3 CD set for training on Ubuntu 7.10. 2 Comments »

OEM Win XP Drivers for VISTA only computers

Operating Systems submitted by calvindoth Jul 31

Dell should make OEM Windows XP drivers available for all Vista only computers, with the stipulation that Dell does not support Windows XP on these systems. To get any Warranty or Support the customer must have a Dell Diagnostic code if Windows XP is on the computer. 3 Comments »

Larger font size for entry of comments, etc.

IdeaStorm submitted by j_hallgren Jul 23

If there is a way to make the font size large enough so a visually impaired user can select what works best for them, I've been unable to locate it thus far! Changing the "Size" in IE6 doesn't appear to have any effect, and I'm really having trouble seeing such a tiny font when entering comments.

The size used to display existing comments is fine for me, but I'm having eye problems now and this minisule font is way too hard to read while I'm typing, ok? 14 Comments »

RFID Embedded in Laptops from Dell

Laptops submitted by dcollins Jul 22

Embed a common - maybe more than one type - or type specified at time of purchase - RFID in your laptops. Security is becomming a real issue for laptops and companies would appreciate if your laptops came with RFID's built in. This way it would be easy to track the systems in the building and who took what out or into the building with RFID based security systems. 3 Comments »

Bluetooth Numberpad

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Broadband and Mobility, Laptops submitted by erikmurr Jul 21

Recently I purchased a Precision M4300 laptop. I do a lot of programming, so I was hoping to get a laptop with a 10-key number pad. I just do not need a 17" laptop to lug arround.

My laptop has Bluetooth, so I have been looking for a nice travel mouse. I am greatly disappointed that there are only about 2 out there right now. With Bluetooth so popular, why do all of the travel mice use USB receivers that hang out the back or side of a laptop?

Anyhow, to further my frustration, I have not found a single Bluetooth numberpad. There are many pads out there for those who's laptops do not have them or that are left handed and want to have their pad on the left side of their keyboard.

It would be really handy to have a Bluetooth numberpad that has no wires or receivers to hang out the side or back of a laptop. Perhaps bundle it with a nice Bluetooth travel mouse. 6 Comments »

Concerning Microsoft's New Policy of “Vista ONLY”

Operating Systems submitted by freedom_man Jul 19

Within the last few weeks , I heard a radio news broadcast that said that from now on Microsoft will be shipping ONLY Vista to computer makers and that Microsoft will also no longer be selling Windows XP at retail.

While many of us are saddened at this, I have a suggestion.

Discontinue Windows XP, yes, but do so only in the 32-bit versions and make Windows XP Pro available in the 64-bit version as an alternative to Vista.

In my opinion, this would be a real win-win for all parties.

What do you think? 51 Comments »
