Start Warranty periods when the system is received, not shipped!

Service and Support submitted by markj2k Jan 31

I have purchased several Dell systems over the last month or so for myself, and some consulting clients. I've noticed in each case that the warranty start date is the day the PC shipped, not the day the PC was received by the purchaser. This needs to be changed. The order status page changes to show when the system was delivered, so Dell knows when the delivery date is. That is the day the warranty should start.

It might even be required from a legal standpoint in some areas, not sure about that. 15 Comments »

No OS Preloaded

Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by agreer 02/17/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I have a XP Pro retail copy, will soon buy retail vista, I also like Linux: Make WINDOWS-FREE, and OS-Free an option for more than just expensive business lines.

Dell has systems available that do not have an OS pre-loaded called N-Series line. You can check them out at www.dell.com/nseries.

We still want XP!!!!!!!!

Operating Systems submitted by americasarmyrocks 09/15/07

What is with this "Vista Only Option" on computers. Dell should make ALL of their products avalible with Windows Vista in all editions, Windows XP in all editions INCLUDING Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and Ubuntu. 63 Comments »

Reverse Video

Servers and Storage, Laptops submitted by r.pelzer 10/26/07

Hi,

As a techie i'm walking around with my notebook to all kinds of server. Sometimes you want to look at a server, but there is no monitor availible.
Would there be a way to connect a notebook to the vga connector of the server and view the output on the notebook screen?

I would buy a new notebook for that option !

Cheers.

Make the choice of Browser Optional or make it Firefox or Opera

Sales Strategies, Software submitted by badblood 10/26/07

Let us choose our default browser:

Or make Firefox or Opera the default browser, because they are better than Internet Explorer.

Please stop forcing us to use sub-standard software

I know this is a duplicate, but it is one of the most popular ideas and has been under review for such a long time that I wanted to put it up again.

I don't know about you, but waiting for an answer to this idea is getting annoying.

Online Case History

Service and Support submitted by mrdrum18 11/08/07

Currently on support.dell.com you have the ability to put in your part dispatch number and see the tracking number if it shipped.

Dell really needs to expand on the idea of an "Online Case History". Many times this part dispatch lookup service does'nt even work and even if if does work it is limited ONLY to looking up your specific part dispatch. We as customers should be able to login to a support portal; within this portal it should list all of our systems and within each system should list all of our case history including open cases. We should be able to see the whereabouts of our case online; are we waiting on a supervisors call? If so, what time is that call? Is customer care still reasearching our issue? If so, when will they get back to us? Dell could even (I dont know how feasible this is) to allow us to actually read case notes to ensure we are up to speed on whats going on.

Its a no-brainer that we should be able to log into our support portal and be able to to see in an organized way our entire case histories. We shouldnt have to call in and waste ours and dell's time and money just to find out the shipping number or estimated ship date of our part. We should be able to have a reliable source online to see that. We shouldnt have to call in every hour wondering when our call back will be. We should be able to see that online.

No company has ever done this before but I cant imagine why Dell wouldnt want to implement this. We should be able to see OUR case histories. 2 Comments »

backlit keyboards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by maltman 11/01/07

An affordable, mainstream backlit keyboard would be a very nice addition to Dell systems and available accessories. Ideally, this would be a wireless device (Bluetooth) with the option of recharging via USB. Additional models could incorporate special media keys or trackpads, but a basic, sub $40 backlit, wireless keyboard would be excellent. Half-height keys are great, while you're at it. 1 Comment »

Outsourcing, Philippines is the way to go!

submitted by daryldeal 11/11/07

Hey Dell, im just wondering when are you guys gonna expand your customer and tech support services in the Philippines? i mean, to say it frankly, i'd rather talk to a neutral accent'd filipino that would work with you to resolve a problem than a thick indian accent'd Indian that would speak like a machine gun that would rush the resolution in your concern. 13 Comments »

Make all adapters the same, even if it’s a 65w or 90w but at least I should have the option to buy a 90w and power on every Dell laptop. Comment »

Sell the Vostro line @ Staples.

Sales Strategies, Small Business, Vostro products submitted by benjesuit 11/09/07

I was in staples today and noticed that the Inspirons with AMD processors were on display. Nice units BTW. Much nicer than what you see in the pictures online.

Staples is a business supply store. It would seem appropriate to sell Vostro's there also. Staples can handle the warranty repair issues the same way they purport to handle the Inspiron issues. 2 Comments »

High-end Linux laptop

Linux, New Product Ideas, Laptops submitted by teron 07/10/07

Currently, the Inspiron 1505N can be customized to be rather high-end, but it lacks one crucial component: A really high-end graphics card.

This is a request to provide a Linux laptop that can be fitted with a huge hard disk, lots of RAM and a high-end Nvidia graphics card, preferably in a 15" design with lots of USB ports. 8 Comments »

Promote Windows Home Server Bigtime

Servers and Storage submitted by gcreese 02/17/07

Microsoft is coming out with Windows Home Server this year, which will allow households to backup and manage their house PCs from a single spot. At this point, a lot of households are in this situation (e.g., with two adults and a child, we have three laptops, a desktop, and three PDAs). Get out in front of the curve on this one (HP made its announcement at the CES Show), talk about it, promote the fact that you will offer it, and in the vein of the other "make the website easier to use" suggestions, explain how Windows Home Server is something to consider for a family going digital.

Also, offer a Windows Home Server discount to current customers who've ordered two or more PCs from Dell in the past five years. You have the data to run an effective, targeted marketing campaign. Use it! 168 Comments »
