When you ask for suggestions try responding to them

Dell Community, Dell Web Site, IdeaStorm submitted by jervis961 3 days ago

This Idea is 2 fold.

First you created a website for customers to submit ideas and hardy ever give feedback. There are currently 14 ideas on the front page that haven't been tagged yet. Dell tells us that you talk about these top ideas 1 - 2 times a week. How hard is it to tag an idea after you talk about it?

Second you post an article on Direct 2 Dell about the new Dell home page and ask for suggestions. I posted a reply yesterday afternoon with links to several Ideas I had posted over the last year on the topic. Not only did I never get a response on any of them on IdeaStorm but they get ignored on Direct 2 Dell as well.

OCZ Core series SSD should be offered on Dell systems

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jul 1

The SATA II Solid State Drives are currently priced at $169 (32GB), $259 (64GB) and $479. Dell should offer these on their systems or produce a competitive alternative. These are a significant cost savings over Dell's current offerings of a 64GB SSD as a $575 upgrade.

Can we come to an agreement to delete old ideas in negative points?

IdeaStorm submitted by jervis961 Jun 28

I think that ideas with negative points that have been given ample time for voting should be looked at for deletion. (which is the idea) The question to you my fellow IdeaStorm users is what criteria should justify deletion? How long is ample time? How much in the negative should they be?

If you feel that no ideas should ever be deleted (unless they violate rules of course) go ahead and demote. I'm just trying to find a way to clean up the place a bit. 70 Comments »

Improve the Studio computers

Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 27

Well now we all know what is included in the Studio notebooks from Dell. While Dell is learning the importance of design they still need to understand that what comes installed in the package is just as important.

The name "Studio" infers that the system is suitable for audio and video mastering it falls short in these categorizes. The base model comes with integrated graphics combines with a basic sound card and cheap speakers to supply the same options as the low end Inspirons. The only upgrades available to improve the situation is a low end graphics card and software to give the illusion of better sound using the base equipment.

Dell needs to add options to the mix that will bring this system up to the level the name implies. Better speakers from a name brand (Bose, JBL, Infinity etc.), a Dolby certified sound card and better graphic card options. If you really want to supply a studio computer put in a spurs engine (cut down Cell processor) which would cut down encoding time tremendously. 2 Comments »

Option to replace notebook touch pad with a small touchscreen

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 22

What better evolution for the touch pad than to make it more useful. You could use it as a touch pad, Vista Sideshow (or Linux equivalent) or both at the same time. I'm sure Dell could work something out and may even find many more uses for it.

Sharp has produced a small touchscreen that is capable of multi-touch and scanning. http://sharp-world.com/corporate/news/070831.html
With one of these instead of a regular touch pad business users could scan a new contact's business card by simply placing it on the screen. 8 Comments »

Create the "napkin PC"

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 18

"The Napkin PC aims to bring out the creative passion of the user both individually and in group sessions. It encourages spreading out and allows for multiple creative workflows that can interact or just as easily stay independent. It encourages group interaction and collaboration by allowing any number of interfaces that can be passed around or pinned up, but which all communicate with a central network."

Operating Systems - Multiboot, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 17

Improve the Dell Myway site

Dell Community submitted by jervis961 May 30

The current Dell Myway home page is a good starting point but needs to improve. The site is very basic in what it supplies and can in no way compete with the likes of Google, Yahoo or even MSN. I cannot think of anyone I know that actually uses the site. The games section is a feature that keeps people returning to sites but Dell's games section is all trial downloads where other sites allow you to play free online. Dell needs to freshen the look and add more community features to keep people using the site. Comment »

Become a Discover Card reward member

Sales Strategies submitted by jervis961 May 30

Dell currently has a deal wit Discover that gets you 5% cash back when you buy at Dell with your Discover card. Discover allows you to redeem your cash back from all your puchases as either: Payment towards your bill, a check sent to you or a gift card to a participating store usually with added value. Dell should follow Sony and Lenovo's lead and participate in the offer. Sony offers a $100 gift card when you redeem $80.

It isn't a huge amount of money and not everyone has Discover but it should lead to more sales. Some people use these deals to bring down the cost of buying items and may be going to the competition currently. Comment »

Don't put the Dell logo upside down on the Mini Inspiron

Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 29

I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down.

Please don't leave the logo like that, it looks bad. 52 Comments »

Fix the search function on IdeaStorm (major glitch found)

IdeaStorm submitted by jervis961 May 26 **IMPLEMENTED**

The seach function here has been lousy for a while now but today I found a new glitch. I was looking to post a comment in an idea about adding solar cells to devices since Apple has now filed a patent. http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/26/apple-files-patent-for-solar-cells-on-port...

Anyway, when I did a search on the word "solar" it showed the same ideas several times. I don't know if it is showing a different link for each idea merged into the origional or based on the number of pages of comments but it should only have one link per idea. 23 Comments »

Lower the price on your LED backlit screens.

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 24

Currently Dell charges $150 to upgrade a notebook to a LED backlit screen. A recent article shows the price difference between the two technologies is only about $8 now. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4424

I know there are additional costs for Dell to build the thinner casing to hold the LED but I don't see plastic costing $100 (leaving $42 for profit). I expect that Dell could drop the cost by $50 to $75 easily which would drive sales and continue to drop the cost of the technology. 4 Comments »

Add social more networking features to the Dell community with Google Friend Connect

Dell Community submitted by jervis961 May 13

Here is an article about the program which is currently in Beta . http://tinyurl.com/6zmwfb

There could be some great features to add to the Dell community sites. I'm sure Google would be more than happy to customize some things for Dell and make it incorporate easily into the sites since you already have some of the functions. Dell, Google and SalesForce are all partners already.

Link to the Google project. http://www.google.com/friendconnect/

A boring youtube video that explains a few of the functions.

User customized banner colors on all the Dell community sites.

Dell Community submitted by jervis961 May 3

Dell recently added a new section to Direct 2 Dell called Your Blog It’s a more open version of D2D that even allows you to submit articles or ideas for articles they should blog about. There is a great option at the top in the banner that allows the user to choose which color they want. I think all the community sites should have that option so I can finally get away from this mustard color and back to the old Dell blue. 2 Comments »

Discounts for schools when parents buy Dell computers for their child

Sales Strategies submitted by jervis961 Apr 24

Dell currently gives a percentage off a Dell system to college students but not middle and high school ones. I say give the same discounts to middle and high school student's parents but with a twist. Offer a deal where parents get the same price as the regular Dell site and the discount goes to their child's school to purchase new computers. You could even extend the deal out to everyone who buys a Dell system to select a school for the money to be applied to. 11 Comments »

DON'T BUY RADIO SHACK!!!

Dell submitted by jervis961 Apr 23

There is a rumor out that Dell is trying to buy Radio Shack.

http://tinyurl.com/6dzwte

While I would like to see some Dell stores this is not the way to do it. Just about every Radio Shack I've been in is a run down mess and not the place I would think of for cutting edge tech. Dell needs to build up its brand not sink it lower. 18 Comments »

Listen to the customers not the HIPPOS (HIghest Paid Person's Opinion)

Service and Support submitted by jervis961 Apr 17

I can't believe I'm saying this but perhaps Dell could utilize a new system from Microsoft to help it listen more to the customers rather than the executives (HIPPOs). I'm sure it could be harnessed in some way.
