For example, there is a difference between the Intel Celeron 2.0 GH processor and the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GH processors. Also provide information comparing Intel to AMD Sempron, and their other processors. 1 Comment » Use the Intel network cards instead of Broadcom Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by thefirstm Apr 25 I think that Dell should stop integrating the wired Broadcom 44xx card (or 57xx card for professional PCs). Since as far as I can remember, every Dell laptop has come standard with these, where the Intel counterparts are much better. Every Intel chipset since the ICH2 southbridge has come with an integrated ethernet controller, and since the ICH5 this has been a gigabit controller. Additionally, it seems as if it would be cheaper to use the Intel controller. To utilize it, all you have to do is add a PHY chip instead of a whole ethernet controller. I think Dell needs to get over its Broadcom thing and start offering gigabit controllers in its home and small business laptops by switching to the Intel integrated controller. 7 Comments » Linux, XPS products submitted by daniel117 Mar 12 After hearing a couple magazines and people say Vista has glitches, I think Dell's best computer ever (and best counterpart of Apple's Macs) this computer company should start looking into Linux more, especially Ubuntu. Oh sure, Dell didn't get enough people into Ubuntu, but that can be easily fixed by putting Linux into Dell One. Dell is missing out on more sales from Ubuntu fans and all you geeks out there. Not much of them, but popularity would spread and soon Vista is in the dust (not that I hate Vista, but I like Ubuntu better). 11 Comments » Put your (*very* nice) Precision Linux desktops on your http://dell.com/open page Dell, Linux submitted by jmxz Mar 11
Few people are aware that Dell sells some *extremely* nice Dell Linux desktops. However when someone searches for Dell Linux systems they most often run across http://dell.com/open which only has a single weak desktop that would barely be capable of running many modern applications well. Take the whole anti-vista resistance thing and exploit it Linux, Operating Systems submitted by lee_stricklin Mar 4
Windows Vista is arguably (meaning there are people that dispute this) the WORST operating system since Millenium Edition. So keep loading all of the computers with XP until M$ doesn't allow the company to do so and after that start advertising Ubuntu 7.10 systems that are preloaded with lots of good freeware on them and maybe some non-freeware as well. This is a list of software that could be loaded along with the stuff that's included with Ubuntu. I think this would make Linux machines look just as good as (if not better) than Windows: Next level of Ubuntu multimedia
Now, when Dell included in Ubuntu 7.10 comercial DVD playback and Adobe Flash player, is time to move and enhance this initiative to next level... There should be peripherals that are certified for Ubuntu line of PCs Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Linux, Printers and Ink submitted by jimasbille Feb 26 I just purchased an Inspiron with Ubuntu. While on the phone the sales guy convinced me to buy a printer or scanner. The problem was he could not tell me if any of them work with Linux. I had to turn him down so I could do some research. A lost sale. If there were certified printers and scanners I would have bought on the spot. 4 Comments » offer white and blues cases for ubuntu m1330 Linux, XPS products submitted by treyboy Feb 19

How many times have you needed to use two hands to open your notebook - one to hold the front down, and one to open the lid. (Especially before the screen hinges are new - not worn out.) Laptops submitted by toyota_supra Jan 31

A PVR (think Tivo) PC without monthly service fees? No price bump for the premium OS package to run it? Interface that lets you customize your own skins and functions? Free add-ons for web-based media? Laptops submitted by jack_satan Feb 1
Dell already sells a completely functional (albeit low-end) Vostro 1000 for $399 with a 15.4 in. screen, 80 GB HDD, Windows, and free shipping. If they just offered the same computer with a 14.1 in. screen, open-source operating system, and 60 GB HDD, they should be able to sell it at $299 with an even better profit margin. So I get my new M1530 and setup VMWare Workstation 6.0.2. When I try to install Windows (I use Linux) VMWare reports VT is disabled and I should enable it in the BIOS. Low and behold the BIOS lacks the option to enable VT (in the M1530 model specifically, some people report other models do allow you to enable it). track my votes
