Add higher screen resolution to all home & home office laptops Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by ccpljat Apr 25 I have been using a used [another brand's] business laptop that has a high screen resolution. The cheaper Inspiron laptops can only go up to 1280x800. I cannot be productive on a screen that small any more. At least bump it up to 1440x900 or equivalent. I have basically been forced to shop in the Small Business section to find an affordable computer with a higher screen resolution. 4 Comments » Order linux on Dell from any part of world Linux, Laptops submitted by zigcatus Apr 11
Dell Can Australia have a Ubuntu OS Laptop Desktops submitted by class2008 05/25/07 Dell should begin producing all 64 bit pc's. WIth rumors of Windows Vista being the last OS available in 32 bit, they should get consumers ready with 64 bit pc's, at reasonable prices. 50 Comments » Implemented: Ubuntu Dell is Le$$ Than Windows Dell Linux submitted by thebittersea 05/05/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS. Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Do not scale back build-to-order systems Desktops and Laptops submitted by masterr Apr 5 **ALREADY OFFERED**
Today in the news I read that Dell "is moving away from its build-to-order model to reduce costs. Dell is limiting the degree to which buyers can dictate specifications while expanding its line of prepackaged models". Please do not do this. The options build-to-order system is what sets Dell above some of the competition. By scaling this back and removing customization choices you remove some of the appeal of buying a Dell machine online. Please do not scale this back. Glare and reflection from high glare screens, screen frames, and notebook computers is annoying and distract from function and use. Dell: join in! Offer a low-cost Linux PC! Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by phubert Apr 2
It appears Dell remains afraid of Microsoft... and here is an answer we haven't heard from Dell on IdeaStorm: Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. Monitors and Displays, Laptop Power submitted by yardsale Jan 16 I dont know why dell hasnt done this yet. switch all monitors on desktops and notebooks to LED. did you know that you can run an LED screen at full brightniess and it uses less power than a LCD monitor at the lowest brighting level?!? its cheaper, its energy efficent, and it needs to be done! promote this, if you demote i wanna know why! 46 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Servers and Storage, Laptops submitted by patrickthegreat 08/07/07 Having the ability to boot from the express card slot on a laptop would be a great idea for those that would like to run multiple operating systems on external drives. eSATA through the expess card slot currently alots for 3gb/s data transfer rates, as opposed to the USB 2.0 (480mb/s). An update to the current BIOS would be great, but I doubt we will actually get that, but at least Dell could make this available in future laptops. 6 Comments » Proper Professional Ports for Notebooks Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products, Precision Workstations submitted by icarus75 05/13/07
I am asking for proper ports on Dell Notebooks - specifically the XPS and Precision series. This includes: Desktops submitted by grpenguin 02/17/07 How about a *REAL* Small Form Factor HTPC? The AOpen miniPC and Mac mini are too small and underpowered. I want something that can take a decent video card (X1950 Pro) in a horizontal PCIe slot, an ATSC tuner, two 3.5" drives, eSATA port, and a subsystem to play a DVD disc (or eventually a HD disc) without needing the CPU powered up. Comment » E-SATA and HDMI ports on XPS M1730 XPS products, Laptops submitted by skolbits 08/16/07
Dell should really consider adding E-SATA and HDMI ports on the upcoming XPS M1730 and in the near future on all high end Laptops. That's going to be essential. A notebook SATA drive caddy that creates an eSATA connection Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by brian2000r Feb 5 Any Dell notebook with SATA and a removable caddy-based hard drive should also have an optional accessory that is a caddy that, instead of enclosing a SATA hard drive, actually converts the internal SATA connection to eSATA. This would allow us to use our external SATA hard drives as bootable devices on our notebooks, which is very useful for testing OS configurations or just booting from alternate OS's. Comment » eSATA Port! Put it in your notebooks already. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 07/26/07

This would be an optimal way to edit video using a Dell laptop or desktop with an external hard drive. 7 Comments » New Product Ideas submitted by sean22 12/30/07 You know that sata is very fast well what if you created a usb flash drive with a eSATA conector on it you could transfer huge amounts of data so fast. like 3 gbps second not mbps 1 Comment » track my votes
