Add higher screen resolution to all home & home office laptops Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by ccpljat Apr 25 I have been using a used [another brand's] business laptop that has a high screen resolution. The cheaper Inspiron laptops can only go up to 1280x800. I cannot be productive on a screen that small any more. At least bump it up to 1440x900 or equivalent. I have basically been forced to shop in the Small Business section to find an affordable computer with a higher screen resolution. 4 Comments » Explain the difference between different processors Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Advertising and Marketing, Dell Web Site submitted by ccpljat Apr 26 Somewhere on your website you need to explain the difference between different processors or provide a comparison chart. For example, there is a difference between the Intel Celeron 2.0 GH processor and the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GH processors. Also provide information comparing Intel to AMD Sempron, and their other processors. 1 Comment » Provide a fix for Media Direct instead of asking user to reformat Servers and Storage, Software, Desktops and Laptops submitted by programatix Apr 26
Dell Media Direct feature is too easy to break. A minor change to the partition layout or size will simply break it. When this happen, pressing the Media Direct button when the system is turned off will not start Dell Media Direct anymore.
I also found out that the MD3 partition is hidden with unknown state because the type of the partition is set to "DD". If I set it to "OB", it will turn into FAT32 and can be viewed normally with Windows Explorer. I don't see anything special with the implementation of MD3 partition but why is it so complicated in reviving it when it is broken? Please Dell, instead of asking users to reformat the HDD, provide a way to fix it or rebuild it without reformatting the HDD. 3 Comments » demistify the CPU upgrade choices Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Advertising and Marketing submitted by blackkittypounce Apr 25 Give us some information about CPU speeds when selecting which CPU to go with when ordering. I would like to see how each CPU performs on maybe 2 or 3 different benchmarks so that I know what I'm getting for my money. Please promote this! Even this tech-savy user has trouble figuring this out! 1 Comment » Add dedicated graphics to all Inspiron laptops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by ccpljat Apr 25 I want dedicated graphics to be added as an option on all the Inspiron laptops. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford the XPS systems. At least give the option for 128 MB dedicated on all Inspirons. Comment » Notebook with 12" Screen and XP Monitors and Displays, Operating Systems, Laptops submitted by famoso_oso Apr 26
What I am looking for is a (sub-) notebook with a 12 " screen (13" is too big) and with the operating system XP. This would be really nice, handy and easy to travel with notebook. So far I looked around and mostly the 12" notebooks lack in perfromance concerning the the screen, mostly lower than 200 cd/m2 (Dell offers the 13" systems with 300cd/m2). So what I suggest is, "just" scale down your XPS M1330 system to a 12" system, and give the user the choice between Vista and XP! How About Not Selling Windows Computers For Cheaper Than Linux!! Inspiron products, Linux submitted by joelinux 11/01/07
The Inspiron 1420 with Windows Vista starts at $699, while the Inspiron 1420 N with Ubuntu Linux starts at $724!! What in the world is going on here? Ubuntu is free software, while Vista can cost upwards of $400! Yet, somehow the Vista computer is less than the Ubuntu computer? I understand that Microsoft is paying Dell subsidies, but this is ridiculous. The Ubuntu offering should not even be a separate model, it should just be a different operating system choice when opting to purchase a computer. Why would Dell even bother selling Ubuntu, if it's more expensive? Who is going to want that? It's scary enough for Windows users to switch to Ubuntu, now it has to be MORE EXPENSIVE, too? I'm really to the point where I'm going to begin spreading the word to people NOT to buy from Dell, until this is drastically changed. What Dell is doing is nothing less than insulting to the Linux community. When you click "View All Notebooks", the Ubuntu notebooks don't even show up! When I searched the site for "inspiron 1420 n", I found the Windows version, and no Ubuntu version to be found! SOMEONE PLEASE CHANGE THIS BEHAVIOR! Inspiron 1420 with NVIDIA 8600m GT 256mb Gaming, Inspiron products submitted by npauly 11/24/07
Please offer the NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT 256mb as an option on the Inspiron 1420. Not all gamers want to lug around a 15 inch or 17 inch laptop. Go back to the old design of media buttons on Inspiron laptops Inspiron products submitted by cp 12/18/07 The media buttons on the new Inspiron laptops are small and all lined up together with no space between them. The old ones (like on the Inspiron 9300) were large and round with gaps between them so that you could feel what you were pressing before you pressed it. Why change things just for the sake of change when it ends up with a worse result for the user? 1 Comment » Offer AMD systems with ATI video cards not just integrated graphics. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, New Product Ideas submitted by ah1f Feb 6 Offer video card options for AMD systems. not just inegrated This post mostly refers to the Vostro / Inspiron lines of notebooks but applies to all AMD based offerings. If DELL can use NVIDIA cards 8400, 8600, 8800 in their Intel systems why can't they use the better ATI cards in the Inspiron system. Those of us who prefer AMD want options too. 5 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by catsnstuff Feb 26 The setup of my Inspiron keyboard and touchpad is much easier to use than other brands I have tried. However, after getting used to the "back" button on more recent mouse designs, it is frustrating to have no similar option near the touchpad. The "backspace" option simply doesn't offer the convenience that the back button on a mouse does. A "go back" button either to the lower left of the touchpad, or immediately under it on the left side, would offer this convenient function without getting in the way of other typing. Even on the edge, next to the media buttons, would be in the same area and within easy reach. 2 Comments » Inspiron products, Sales Strategies submitted by wallyhorse Feb 29
It is interesting that the new Intel T9300 (2.5 Ghz/6MB Cache/800Mhz) processor is only available as an option in the Inspiron laptop series on the 1720 and NOT on the 1420, 1520 or 1525 laptops. In addition, while the T8300 (2.4 Ghz/3MB Cache/800Mhz Processor) is an option on the 1420 and 1520 (and 1720), that also is NOT an option on the 1525. Why is that? When asked to make the choice between blue and green for the color of my new laptop... I can't make up my mind! My favorite color is teal, which is not an option. Sales Strategies, Software submitted by rgb66rgb 09/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Some purchasers already have subscriptions to anti-virus products that can be ported to new systems. Not having a 'no anti-virus' option on every system order page forces those users to essentially buy two licenses when only one machine will be used. Single SKU, single price for components across all Dell systems. Sales Strategies submitted by vitalsupport Apr 23
Make prices for individual components that are the same between systems across your various lines the same. For example the 2-button optical mouse costs $14 when purchased with an Optiplex system but only $9 with a Vostro or Dimension. There are others like a DVD-ROM/CDRW on a server costs $99 but the same device on an Optiplex costs $27. Processors have even more widely varying prices. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by wheelie Apr 22 A simple request – an old fashioned analogue wheel for volume control for every computer with speakers. Fiddling with software volume controls [beep beep beep beep…] is a miserable experience and even hardware button controls are limited – the increments are usually too big or small for a given audio file. Reinvent the wheel! 3 Comments » Offer No OS Option on all PCs for Home / Small Business Markets Operating Systems submitted by gear Apr 22
Why not sell PCs with no OS installed and just include the drivers disk for popular OSes that are known to work on it like (XP, Linux, and Vista). track my votes
