This is the reference standard that the high end Vostro/Inspiron should be compared with. The review actually makes frequent references to the Dell lines. The performace differences quoted are actually pretty minimal especially comapred to the price difference. If you simply enabled raid in your dual drive configurations (the chipset has built in support for it!) this would go a long ways towards evening out the benchmarks. If the benchmarks were even (or even better with raid support) then the pricing would make Dell's a no brainer decision. 1 Comment »

Here's a general tip:

The Casetracker should hold the following information:

- With all the recent product updates at one side
- General process updates directly from the clients
- Release of new products
- a link listing all the available departments for eg. grievance, Employee Purchase program etc etc ( to be aware of what actually exists with Dell)
- a place to mark the attendance
- a place to mark permisssion for an hour
- a place to enter transport delay with the cab number
- a tab linking to the knowledgebase
- a tab linking to FAQ
- a tab linking "genuine Quality reports"
- a tab linking "genuine Project (target /quality) Reports"
- a tab showing birthdays
- a tab with general world news/ health / sports news
- a place to login any HR query ( so that the clients know what is going on)
- a place to leave the doubts
- a place to record rare and peculiar scenario

This will help spread the "clients update" "uniformily" to all the sale reps / techs regarding product updates

This will help more interaction of the clients with the floor activities.

Kindly ignore if it already exists, becoz when I was with Dell, I had just the user id login for E-Talk advisor with no clear and regular updates. Comment »

Blu-Ray Shouldn't Cost so Much

With Blu-Ray being in competition with HD-DVD, and Dell supporting the Blu-ray option, the systems with Blu-Ray drives seem EXTEREMLY OVER PRICED. I love the idea of blu-ray, i have a Playstation 3 with a Blu-ray player, and the movies in HD look awesome, but i can't believe that a laptop with a blu-ray disk writer is so much.

Why cant you get a CHEAP system + Blu-ray

The only option right now is to get a HIGH END 2500+ system, and then ADD the blu-ray to that system making it 3000+ dollars!!

Wheres a Consumer Inspiron or Vostro notebook with good proc, mem, ect and a nice blu-ray? somewhere around the 1000 dollar mark.. ? *maybe 1500 dollar mark with the 1920x1200 display to view in HD, and hopefully avail in 15 inch not just 17 inch models?!* 19 Comments »

Have a MCE destop tower available

Give customers the option to have a multimedia desktopt tower. I have been informed by a customer that he would like to see that option and many computer companies are not making them available. That way when a person wants to put it next to their stereo it matches the evironment. Comment »

Make the Precision work stations better looking.

I like the specs on the new Precision 6300 but it looks like a
darker grey version of my Inspiron 6000. Why hasn't Dell tried to make
the thing better looking? The least they could have done is put it in a
Latitude case.

WUXGA Screens for 15.4" Laptops

I was a longtime Inspiron user - having gone through the 5150 and 6000 variants because they provided great 15"/15.4" laptops with WUXGA screens. Will those screen options every be brought back for the 15.4" Inspirons?

Only the 17" models and the Latitude/Precision brands offer that screen now.

If it is cheaper when it ships than when you ordered Dell should refund the difference.

Have a policy so that if when a computer ships if it is cheaper when it ships than when it was ordered, to reduce the price to the current market price. For instance if I ordered a laptop in June and it was $1499.99 and it didn't ship until September and in September that same laptop would cost $1299.99, refund the difference as the customer isn't getting a $1499.99 laptop anymore. 5 Comments »

Support/Update your Asset.com program better

Where I work we have an almost entirely Dell environment, and part of the way we keep track of units is through asset tags. the Asset.com program has served this function well, but for the first time it will not work due to the new AMD Vostros we purchased. These are the first AMD systems put into our environment and they are practically worthless to us if we can't keep track of them via asset tags. When we attempted to phone Dell, we got nowhere.
Dell maintain the asset.com tool better and support it better too, please. 5 Comments »

Built-In Operating System Recovery Option?

I have been working for a while in the technical support area and during all this time I haven’t found anything more frustrating for our customers than the Operating System reinstallation, so we did efforts and started to ship the computers with an additional partition to recover the OS when it crash.
That was a good plan, but many customers didn’t had any idea of the existence of this partition and went an reinstalled the OS with the media (disk), later having difficulties to find the software originally shipped with the system and to find out that the Recovery Partition was lost due to the reinstallation with the media.

Dell then stops sending the OS media to avoid this to happen, but later we found that it was useless when the hard drive crash.
We send the hard drive replacement and many representatives were forgetting to send the OS disks.

To summarize this at the end we face an angry customer, who lost data and needs to go through a very frustrating OS reinstallation, with the media that we had to send later.

Finally Dell has started to send the media again along with the OS recovery partition and we are at the beginning of the story once again; our customers are reinstalling Windows with the media and by instance deleting the recovery partition or making it useless, this is not a customer fault because all what they are looking for is to make the system to work when something goes wrong.

Here is my idea: Why don’t we use a built-in recovery option, undeletable, only accessible by some special way (let’s say the BIOS) and inaccessible by OS which does not use the customers hard drive space?
We might install a USB memory directly into the motherboard, which cannot be removed since it could be built-in or might be removable in any case; this memory will contain the entire recovery image and will never be lost because it will be a separate drive.

This option would be then available only for Home / Home Office users.
We are talking about 5 or 8 GB USB keys, they are pretty small and their cost is not that high.
This may positively impact:

• Customer Satisfaction
• Technology Improvement
• Cost reduction per contact (less time on the queues, easy steps, fast service)

This might increase the cost per system motherboard; not that much, but I think that not significantly.

Since this would be a plus; if the component fails no hardware should be replaced, that we make sure that will not be more expensive than what it should be.

Embeded virtualization on current/"legacy" laptops via bootable SD slot.

First:
I have been playing around with portable OS's for a while via thumb drives but always wanted something smaller and more svelte than a dongle hanging out of the side of my laptop. With the increasing size of SD cards and the decreasing prices of them I always thought it would have been cool to boot of my SD slot in my XPS2 laptop but was disappointed when I found no "Boot From SD" option in the BIOS. If y'all could make revamped BIOS for the laptops that have the built in SD slot I would be more than grateful.

Secondly:
If this is indeed possible then this would be an awesome platform to embed a Hypervisor on allowing consumers to try their flavor of OS. And knowing nothing about the embedded virtualization Dell plans on implementing, it would be extremely swank if you could emulate an OSX machine too! ;) Comment »

it has everything else i want it just doesnt have the 8800gts graphics card and i hope it will in the future.
