More details on Order Status Page

Dell Web Site submitted by shake Aug 15

I like the Order Status feature, and its great that you have it, but I hate the way that from the minute you pay to the minute it ships, it is in the production stage. Cant you show a "Waiting on Parts", "Build Stage", "Waiting to Ship", then "Shipped"? I know that the Technology wouldnt be that hard to impliment, and it would make customers a lot happier. Centrino 2 for the studio line of laptops

Laptops submitted by chardeen Aug 15

With the decision made to phase out the XPS range; it would advantageous to introduce the Centrino 2 platform and better graphics into the studio range without delay for your digital nomads. 12 Comments »

King of the Hill

IdeaStorm submitted by comprevolution Aug 15

so, i think a problem with the way the recent ideas page works is that after your post isn't on the 1st page its as if its non existent, after being barred by 4 or 5 really long posts. Maybe a new way of setting up the recent page or even the popular page, would be every time an idea gets a vote it is sent to the first page. this idea is really open to change but is a foundation that you could build on. 5 Comments »

Integrated Keyboard / Mouse

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by sirebral Aug 15

This idea just dawned on me. I've been recommending DELL get rid of the touch pad on Laptops and go with touch screen, but the PC is turning into an All In One Entertainment system. The problem i see in the future is Cords and Mice.

It would be a kind feature to take the laptop keyboards with their touch pads and make a Media Center keyboard with a small form factor touch pad integrated.

I also have a question with this idea, if a member could answer that would be great. My studio hybrid has a wireless detect button on the back. Does this mean I can still get a wireless keyboard and mouse later? I hope so. Because when I get me new LCD Monitor / TV Tuner I wouldn't like be stuck to the desk while I watch a big screen. 8 Comments »

Add accessories section to most foreign countries.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by stormrider451 Aug 14

In some foreign DELL sites, DELL has very little if any accessory options to choose from. Sometimes there isnt even a separate accessory section you can go to such as the case of my country, Puerto Rico. Alright, so you cant ship your computers from the US site to foreing countries, but im sure there shouldnt be any problem with accessories? I mean, how would getting a mouse from the US DELL site differ from getting a mouse from the BestBuy.com?

IDEA: Add accessory pages to foreing country DELL sites even if they are links of the US site accessory offerings and even if you ship them from the US. Maybe this way each foreign country will better their accessory offering when building computers, they can simply put (this accessory will arrive separately because of US shipment). Comment »

a new dell era!!!!

Dell Web Site submitted by comprevolution Aug 14

so when looking threw all of the posts i get a general prospective of what people are really looking for. I think that this idea if done properly could change Dell in the eyes of a huge group of people that have moved to other companies or custom built pc's.

Basically:

when people go to the dell site have some logo, or option that isn't a small link but large enough to be noticed.

When clicking on said logo it will take you to a section of the dell site like none before. where you can completely build a computer that is 100% custom to you. you start by picking a type

Laptop | Desktop | Server | other

you then choose a chassie

you could stick with the same options that are available today:

Inspiron | Studio | xps | Latitude |

or you could have it by size

14 | 15 | 17 | (other options for desktops)

then you can fill it with hard ware, where you will not just have 1 option but several for each peace of hardware.

Motherboard : intel, asus
Proc: Intel, Amd ...
Ram: size, brand,
GPU: Nvidia, ATI, PNY, ...
HDD: Seagate, Fugitsu, Samsung,
optical drives: brands and type
screen: size and quailty
even I/O's: logitec, microsoft, Dell

Then you go to software level:

Operating system: linux, windows, BSD
Preinstalled software: Anti virus, Photo Editing,
allow an option for no bloatware: I know these are advertisements to keep the price down... but AOL? really AOL? no one uses AOL!!

You should then have external options:

Chassie color:
Led's:
chassie wheels:
choose the color of the dell logo or allow for custom messages.

_________
you could still keep the same thing that you have going on which will allow people who don't know much about computers but know what they want it to do, to purchase a pre build system.

But also add this new section which will give those who do know what there doing freedom to configure what you would like.

I know that for this option i could just go to new egg and build a pc, but i'd like to have it all together and covered by a dell warranty.

let me know if i missed any steps. 13 Comments »

Create more overlap between different DELL models.

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by stormrider451 Aug 14

I think dell needs to INCREASE the overlap between its different lines of computers especially for the home section. As it is right now, if you wish to buy a laptop that can play games decently, you will have to go to one of the XPS lines. Its great that you offer products like XPS laptops that will allow you to play games decently. But why not take it a step further? What if I want to play games but find the XPS line too dull or simply like another style better? What if I like the Studio line but with the power of the XPS line or at least near the XPS line? IM NOT SAYING MAKE THE STUDIOS/INSPIRONS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT TO OFFER THE OPTION TO MAKE THEM AT LEAST NEAR TO WHAT AN XPS CAN BE IN TERMS OF POWER WHILE STILL OFFERING THE CURRENT OPTIONS!! If DELL doesnt create more overlap this scenario occurs:

Person comes to buy a laptop that can play some games, nothing fancy but at least play some recent games decently. He sees the XPS line but doesnt like it.. He would like to buy one just like the Studio line but he sees that they dont come with a good video card.. Next step he takes is to buy one of the DELL computers and not be a 100% satisfied costumer or go to one of these sites........
www.hp.com
www.sony.com
www.gateway.com ...... and continues his search.. Voila, dell lost a potential costumer because of having such strict division lines between their models forces the costumer to conform with what DELL has to offer. Im not saying other companies do not have the strict lines either, but its one strategy that DELL could use to keep more costumers. Who cares what they end up buying as long its a DELL at the end of the day? 16 Comments »

INSPIRON 1720

Inspiron products, Sales Strategies submitted by srikapardhi Aug 14

THE INSPIRON 1720 MODEL IS ONE OF THE BEST MODELS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET WITH EVERY FEATURE ENABLED IN IT.IT HAS ALSO SOME BASIC BACKLOGS TO BE DEALT WITH . THEY ARE
1)ITS SOME WHAT HEAVY(THE WEIGHT SHOULD BE REDUCED)
2)THRE ARE NO SEPARATE ON AND OFF BUTTONS FOR BLUE TOOTH AND FOR WI-FI TO BE HANDLED ON.IF THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE BUTTONS IT WOULD CONSERVE BATTERY LIFE.
3)IT DOES NOT HAVE HDMI PORT
4)AND IT DOES NOT HAVE BACKLIT LEYBOARD LIGHT
------------------------------------------------------------------------... THAT MAKE US THINK IT WOULD BE NICE IF 1720 HAVE IT
1)A FM RADIO WHICH IS COMMON IN THE MOBILE PHONES IN THESE DAYS
2)AN IR PORT USEFUL TO TRANSFER DATA
3)THE BACKLITE KEYBOARD
4)THE DOCK APPLICATION WHICH IS PRESENTLY INSTALLED BY THE DELL COMPANY.
5)A FINGER PRINT READER OR A FACE DETECTION SECURITY SYSTEM WOULD BE AMAZING IN THIS MODEL
------------------------------------------------------------------------... I HAVE VISTA HOME PREMIUM INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP EVEN THOUGH I TRIED MANY TIMES TO DUAL BOOT IT WITH XP PROFESSIONAL SP2 IT IS COPYING FILES AND NOT AT ALL INSTALLING THE MULTI OS MEANS XP INSTALLATION IS FAILING DUE TO SOME HARD DRIVE DRIVER PROBLEMS. TOTALLY I RATE INSPIRON 1720 AS 4.5 ON A SCALE OF 5 . I REOMEND ANY ONE TO SIMPLY BUY IT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER THOUGHT , WHEN U READ ALL THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES.
------------------------------------------------------------------------...
I ALSO REQUEST THE DELL TEAM TO PUBLISH A DOCUMENTATION ON 1)
HOW TO INSTALL DELL MEDIA DIRECT AND THE VISTA OS IF IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO RE INSTALL THE OS ALSO
2) ANOTHER DOCUMENTATION ON HOW TO DUAL BOOT IT WITH VISTA AND XP SP2 , ALSO THE DRIVERS REQIRED FOR VISTA AND XP ARE SAME ARE SAME OR NOT. WAITHING FOR THE DELL TEAM TO PUBLISH THE DOCUMENTATION ON DUAL BOOT FOR VISTA AND XP AND ITS TROBLE SHHTING METHODS .
THANKS TO DELL FOR THE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY. 9 Comments »

Studio Hybrid that can play games

Desktops, Gaming submitted by bostich Aug 14

Would it be possible to squeeze a mobile graphics card of some kind as an option on the Studio Hybrids? Just about the only thing holding me back is the poor-avreage gaming performance of the X3100.

Even if it limited some of my other options that would be worth it. 12 Comments »

Dell should create a new tool for the next twebinar

Advertising and Marketing, Simplify IT, Precision Workstations submitted by jervis961 Aug 14

Dell recently held a twebinar when they announced the new Latitude and Precision line up. People were able to view the event live via a video feed and ask questions on twitter simultaneously. While the new experience was great there is room for improvement. Post users had Twitter open in one window, the video stream in another and then the slides from the presentation would pop up in a third window. Dell should develop a new tool to bring it all together. The tool would have the video in one corner, your twitter account on the side and small versions of the slides than can be opened into a larger version if needed. I think this would help expand the experience for the next such event. 5 Comments »

Give EVERY idea a status tag.

IdeaStorm submitted by winoffice Aug 14 **REVIEWED**

Why should we have to wait so long for you to tell us what is your opinion on ideas. Plenty of the ideas are still here without ANY status tags at all! This makes us think that you just want not to implement those ideas. If you want not to implement an idea, then do at least tell us so that we know, and so that we have no false hopes.

When you choose not to implement an idea, explain why

IdeaStorm submitted by winoffice Aug 14

Most of the time when I see "**REVIEWED**" or another tag that indicates refusal to implement, I just see one Dell comment that says "Dell has reviewed such and such idea" or "Dell is continuing to explore such and such"...and in another Dell comment I see "Changed status to **REVIEWED**.". Could we have some more details please, as to why you refuse to implement? 6 Comments »

Sell Ubuntu laptops or laptops without OS in the Netherlands NOW

Linux submitted by thaisi Aug 14

I really hate to wait for buying a laptop with big bill gates tax on it. Give me a laptop with worthy hardware, and I'll put Ubuntu on it if you don't want to provide it as a OS choice in the netherlands.

It is really ridiculous that I have to pay microsoft money for a product I won't use.

Give us a choice in the Netherlands!! 8 Comments »

Optiplex desktop form factor and rack mounting

Desktops, Servers and Storage, OptiPlex products submitted by rmhartmann Aug 13

As a system integrator, we often place Optiplex "desktop" units sideways on a rack shelf for equipment rack cabinet mounting. We don't use the Optiplex as servers, but simply for running specific applications or for configuration of other devices in the rack. When sideways, the size of the Optiplex "desktop" chassis is just a little too high to fit in a 2RU space, plus the rack shelf approach to mounting is not that neat. How about offering the Optiplex in a 1RU, 2RU or 3RU rack mount chassis like the Poweredge Servers? [For a minimal upcharge please ;) ] 4 Comments »

Industrial ultra-small form factor for Digital Signage

New Product Ideas, Desktops and Laptops submitted by rmhartmann Aug 13

Create a generic, industrial "plain wrap" ultra-small form factor PC with metal case for "Digital Signage" applications (and other embedded systems like kiosks etc). Size should be small enough to fit behind wall mounted flat panel display. Maybe take the guts of the new Studio Hybrid as starting point? There are many suppliers out there that already do ultra-small, but they are typically smaller volume and price/performance ratio not as good as Dell (I've seen many industrial Celeron based units for close to $1K!). Should have RS-232 port for commercial monitor control. HDMI/DVI output too. 2 Comments »
