gives a higher graphic card for 15 inch XPS laptop

Gaming, XPS products submitted by hanlya May 6

it is better if Dell offer a gaming product with high graphic in 15 inch laptop..for example m1530..dell should offer for an additional better video card such as 8800Gt or 8700 GT..and this m1530 will be like kaboom...1 of the best 15 inch laptop ever build..so i suggest dell put additional option for higher graphic or just build a new product 15 inch laptop with gaming characteristic..or maybe m1535..with a better video card.. 2 Comments »

Matte (NOT TrueLife) Display on XPS m1330

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by mw 06/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

The XPS m1330 seems to be the perfect machine, aside from a few imperfections (no Gigabit Ethernet, for example). However, there is one feature that is an absolute dealbreaker for me--the glossy TrueLife screen. I remember the day before the shiny screens, and what a beautiful day that was.

If the XPS m1330 were available with a matte option (along with LED backlighting, of course), I would order one right now. I just don't think I can deal with the TrueLife panel.

Dell E Slim with NON-glossy panel

Monitors and Displays submitted by happymaster23 Jun 15

I have falled in love to new Dell E lineup and Dell E Slim specially. This product looks superb, with no badness, but I found one - this is glossy panel. I hate glossy panels, so Dell please make customization selection between glossy or non-glossy.

LED Backlit Displays for Higher Resolutions for XPS M1530

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by whitefrost May 14

The release of the LED backlit 1440 x 900 display is great, but needs to be expanded to higher resolutions most notably the 1680 x 1050 resolution which a large number of people use and are most comfortable with. It would not be a threat to the M1730 as you can keep the LED Full HD 1920 x 1200 for it alone. 5 Comments »

Light up keyboards for business laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Small Business, Laptops submitted by derricktwo Jun 24

I'm fortunate enough to have made it in this industry without really knowing how to type. I can type fairly fast, but I have to look at the keys while I'm doing so. I highly doubt I am the only person that needs to do this. I noticed that the Alienware notebooks have an option to add a light up keyboard. I think this would a great feature to have on Dells business class laptops. This would allow people to work in bed without needing to turn on the lights, or during night flights for a business trip. Don't put the Dell logo upside down on the Mini Inspiron

Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 29

I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down.

Please don't leave the logo like that, it looks bad. 52 Comments »

XPS 1530 OFFER 64 or 32 bit OS system, AND OFFER 64 BIT DRIVERS FOR ALL LAPTOPS and other PC's DEll sells... like other lower end laptop OEM vendors do...

Operating Systems, XPS products submitted by contrast123 May 31

other vendors, I looked at, while shopping for a laptop, beatifully offered the OS system, in EITHER 64 bit or 32 bit. The world will eventually go towards 64 bit. Gateway is offering their FX gaming desktop with a 64 bit OS pre-installed.

Toshiba, also is selling a VERY impressive laptop at bestbuy with 450 gigs of hardrive, PLUS the 64 bit os system, which makes full use of the 4 gigs.

DONT LOCK THE CUSTOMER INTO 32 bit, thats horrid. Why would DELL DO THAT?. Your such a huge company, it boggles the mind, as to why, if you want to stay competitive, you would only offer a 32 bit OS system?. Revamp your deal with Microsoft, and tell them that if the customer wants to upgrade, that for being a dell customer, a dell customer can get the 64 bit OS without having to BUY it.

AND why would you offer 64 bit drivers ONLY for the XPS 1330. BUT
NOT HAVE THEM AVAILABLE FOR THE XPS 1530?????. It's ludicrous. So now the customer has to rag tag, and get the 64 bit xps1330 drivers, for the xps 1530, and end up sacrificing some hardware functionality, simply because DELL forgets one of the most CRUCIAL aspects of their machines....the OS ?....c'mon dell...whats up that, seriously..i mean, seriously, whats up with that.

EVERY SINGLE LAPTOP you offer, should have available, for it, on your website for download, 64bit drivers and 32 bit drivers.

64 bit drivers are the future, need I tell this to a tech company like dell?....yup. From a humble customer that likes your products, owns TWO XPS laptops, usses an xps 1330 for presentations, powerpoint presentations that I do, and I really love my computer, but would like
to love a bit more. Just a little more. I love the design quality, build wise, is second to none. If you fix these other little details, you will rule, your competitors will have a VERY hard time matching you in the laptop vending industry.

Please consider my ideas. I own two xps's a 1530 and a 1330.

Again thanks, for offering this forum to place our ideas. I have seen some ideas implemented, and would really enjoy seeing some of mine(others have the exact same idea as myself) being implemented.

I know I cant be the only thinking this way. I know I'm not. I highly doubt Dell also thinks I am alone with these thoughts. 4 Comments »

Please stop using cheap LCD panels on your flagship XPS laptop line.

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by tcpaulh Jun 3

Please stop using cheap LCD panels on your flagship XPS laptop line.

For example the M1530 although specified with 90-100 degree vertical viewing angles, the reality is that there is at best a 15-20 degree vertical viewing angle before colour inversion occurs.

Vertical viewing angles at present do not appear to conform to stated specifications!

Dell have been promising better viewing angles since 2002 with Ultrasharp screens but these screens are still not available across the XPS line of laptops.

Please sort it out Dell and stop using the cheapest screen technology in your premium products.

Thank you. 9 Comments »

M1530 higher res screens

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by d3fcon Mar 31

Dell,

Any chance you could update the UK site so we can order the higher res screens already available elsewhere for M1530 and also update the hard drive options so I can order a 200Gig 7200rpm one. I don't understand as these options keep coming and going, but never seem to be available all at once. All I want is:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English
Base Warranty - 1 Year XPS Premium Hardware Support (incl. Gaming and On-Site Support)
2.0 mega pixel Camera & Tuxedo Black for CCFL Display
15.4" Widescreen™ WXGA (1440x900) TFT Display (220nits) with TrueLife™ or (1680* 1050) would be good
Biometric Fingerprint Reader with BLACK accent
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
200GB (7200RPM) SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory
Fixed 8x DVD+/-RW Slim Slot Load drive, including SW
Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

Is this too much to ask for? Sort the site and the money is yours 1 Comment »

Give XPS Notebooks Gigabit Ethernet

XPS products submitted by croftki Feb 17

I understand that Dell market research says home users in general are not interested in gigabit ethernet for home networks. Those who pay for the premium design in the XPS line, however, are more likely to want gigabit ethernet. I would rather buy something more exciting than a business class notebook, but I want to build on my home technology with each purchase I make. XPS Notebooks unfortunately do not help me do this. It seems my only option is to buy a Latitude. 28 Comments »

Use better LCD panels in laptops.

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by mlazarov Feb 26

In order for laptops to be a viable platform for graphical applications, the color reproduction and viewing angles of their displays must be addressed. Most laptops use TN/CCFL displays that suffer from poor color range and color shift. Dell should at very least offer an S-IPS/LED display option in their workstation-class laptops. I realize several of Dell's laptops already have LED backlighting, but there would a significant improvement quality if S-IPS panels were used.

Update: I thought it'd be best to illustrate the difference between TN and S-IPS displays. Below is a side-by-side comparison of a TN (left) and S-IPS (right) display from an off-axis vertical angle.

http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/10884.jpg

Having such dramatic color variation at different angles almost precludes any sort of in-field collaborative image editing or similar application. The laptop on the right is a (discontinued) ThinkPad T60p.

Quad core processor laptop

Laptops submitted by ward733 Apr 5

Dell needs to be the first to empliment quad core processors in there notebooks and not only in the xps models..3rd quarter '08 intel will release its first notebook quad core platform.. when new technology say sli, and core 2 dou chips xps seems to be the first to land it and you have to break the bank to get the latest xps notebook..I think the inspiron, latitude, vostro notebooks should have the option for the lower end up to quad core. Xps and precision models should have a little better scale of processors including when released quad core extreme chips. 6 Comments »

Avoid Glare On Screens and Notebook Frames

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by bobetsue 02/20/07

Glare and reflection from high glare screens, screen frames, and notebook computers is annoying and distract from function and use.

In stores, this may be a marketing ploy. Consumers may not fully understand the problem of glare. Online sellers like Dell should inform buyers when shopping whether the screen and case are "glare" or "nonglare."

When "nonglare" was introduced to television, shoppers considered it an advantage worthy of extra expense. In the art world, nonglare glass is considered worthy of extra expense.

How did we ever get glossy screens?

Dell should offer customers a choice between "glare" and "nonglare." 226 Comments »

Backlit Keyboards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by rarmasu 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option.

I would actually pay extra for that convenience if the option was available.
This could be done for desktops or notebooks.

Check out the white LED backlights on the <ahref>XPS M1730.

Higher quality lcd screens for XPS M1530

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by marcusesq Jan 13

My brothers XPS M1530 arrived today fitted with a WSXGA+ screen and its horrible and grainy. I didn't get a chance to see weather its fitted with the Samsung or LG screen.
I don't know weather this is a quality control issue or just penny pinching by using cheap screens but until its fixed there is no NO WAY I'll be placing an order.
How anyone could design a laptop this good only to ruin the whole deal by fitting nasty screens is beyond me.
It seems this is not an isolated case either.

To see the extent of the problem look

Overclocking options

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by carlobaluta 02/20/07

Have overclocking options in BIOS, as other motherboard manufacturers have. This should apply to high end gaming machines, designed for people who know what they are doing.
Also, i believe this kind of computers are way too pricey as I can always buy the parts and build such a machine for way less and with far more options...

Smaller rubber feet that don't fall off
