Light up keyboards for business laptops Precision Workstations submitted by derricktwo Jun 24 I'm fortunate enough to have made it in this industry without really knowing how to type. I can type fairly fast, but I have to look at the keys while I'm doing so. I highly doubt I am the only person that needs to do this. I noticed that the Alienware notebooks have an option to add a light up keyboard. I think this would a great feature to have on Dells business class laptops. This would allow people to work in bed without needing to turn on the lights, or during night flights for a business trip. One of my consens with keyboard backlight is that it would light up the PC too much in the dark for instance when watching a DVD. Varius timeout modes from last keyboard activity is clumsy, because then you need to say hit one of the arrow-keys (although it would have been fun to see a keyboard once with an actual ANYKEY). Glare and reflection from high glare screens, screen frames, and notebook computers is annoying and distract from function and use. Discounts, Credit, or Cash for Recycling Old Laptops and Computers Sales Strategies submitted by wendaline Jun 19 I think Dell should offer customers either a discount, credit, or cash back for recycling their old computers. Both HP and Toshiba do this, so, why not Dell? If they did this it would help the enviroment while gaining loyal customers or keeping already loyal customers from going to their competetors AND they could refurbish the old parts and start selling refurbished computers at lower prices for those of us who can't afford to spend a fortune on a new computer. Come on Dell execs listen to your consumers, the ones who pay your salery, and keep us as your customers. Do you really want the other companies to win? I'd like to be able to swap the battery on my laptop without having to turn it off or hibernate it. It seems you could do this by putting a large capacitor or tiny internal battery that could provide power for the 30 seconds or so it takes to switch to a spare battery. Another way you might be able to do this is instead of having one big battery in each laptop, have 2 small ones instead; and you could swap them one at a time. Laptops have grown to be unuseable comfortably on a lap due to heat, screen position and keyboard ergonomics. I would like to retain the power of current offerings to handle video, computation and average games, but to be light and easily useable without a tray/cooler and to still have a good screen size (say 15" or so). Don't charge up to $50 more to downgrade from Vista to XP Operating Systems - Multiboot, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 17 Dell is going to start charging customers up to $50 to downgrade thier systems operating system from Vista to XP after Wednesday.
