Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.

Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself.
On XPS Notebooks... you are charging $500 for 4GB of ram... when you could easily go pick them up at your local computer shop for $250... and pocket the other half of the $500...

It would be nice if dell could save the customers as well as the company itself this hassle.. and start charging NORMAL prices for an upgrade in RAM.

thanks =D

PS..... PROMOTE THIS!!!!

Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser

Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**

Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF.
Firefox advocates at Dell have initiated discussions and driven action around exploring alternative internet browsers and experiences. As you can tell from our response to the Linux community, open source continues to be a part of our conversations about new products and services.

Make XP/Linux drivers available for all model even if only Vista is pre-installed

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Linux, Operating Systems submitted by vineets001 09/24/07 **REVIEWED**

There are good hardware models coming out. And only Vista is pre-install option. If people want to wipe off Vista and install XP or Linux, let them do that. Make a commitment to have the drivers available.

We're working on having drivers for the hardware we ship more widely available. Click here to learn more from john_h.

No Extra Software Option

Software submitted by ootleman 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS.

Check out jeremy_f's update on our current software options.

Add E-SATA Ports to notebooks

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by dvt 02/17/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

E-SATA provides a way to add fast external storage with much better performance than USB or Firewire. Adding an E-SATA port would greatly improve the expandabiliy of Dell's notebook computers.

integrated eSATA port

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by chuckles67 02/27/07

eSATA port enables fast external disk access (at bus speed). This would be an optimal way to edit video using a Dell laptop or desktop with an external hard drive. 7 Comments »

Proper Professional Ports for Notebooks

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products, Precision Workstations submitted by icarus75 05/13/07

I am asking for proper ports on Dell Notebooks - specifically the XPS and Precision series. This includes:

- One 6-pin Firewire 400 Port &

- One 9-pin Firewire 800 Port (Both with Texas Instruments 1394 Controllers)

- Dual eSATA Ports (RAID Capable)

The current integrated 4-pin 1394 Ports are incredibly inconsistent and unreliable for 3rd party Audio/Video Interfaces. I have an $2700 Inspiron 9400 that is incapable of working correctly with M-Audio and Presonus Firewire products.

SCRAP Ricoh and O2Micro Controllers - They DON'T do the job!

eSATA is the fastest standard for external storage, Dell should be taking advantage of this. 2 Comments »

eSATA in Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Servers and Storage, Laptops submitted by patrickthegreat 08/07/07

Having the ability to boot from the express card slot on a laptop would be a great idea for those that would like to run multiple operating systems on external drives. eSATA through the expess card slot currently alots for 3gb/s data transfer rates, as opposed to the USB 2.0 (480mb/s). An update to the current BIOS would be great, but I doubt we will actually get that, but at least Dell could make this available in future laptops. 6 Comments »

eSATA Port! Put it in your notebooks already.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 07/26/07

I mean, let's see...

Dropped the ball with the Inspirons: No HDMI. No 7200RPM drives on the 1720s. No gigabit ethernet.

OK so when you do refresh these things, and I hope it's soon, please add an eSATA port. USB 2.0 for external HD is so last year. 1 Comment »
