Dual-DVI for docking stations and laptops! Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by bhumphrey 02/22/07 Dell needs to develop a docking station that is capable of displaying greater than 1920x1200 resolution using Dual-DVI outputs. Currently you can't use a Dell 30" monitor with a docking station at full resolution. I have to imagine that there are plenty of other programmers, designers and even gamers out there that want to use their laptop with a nice 30" monitor. Cmon Dell community, make it happen! 3 Comments » Bring back DVI and better video card options on the Inspiron/"Vostro" line. Inspiron products submitted by adorettic 08/13/07 The removal of a DVI port on all of the Vostro / Inspiron line is ridiculous. While the rest of the world is moving towards DVI dell is moving away from it. Also bring back the options for DX9 cards on these laptops because the current dx10 offering is worse than the card I bought on my Inspiron 9300. Leaving the DVI port only on the XPS laptops to force people to buy them is a really shady practice. Some people don't want to spend double the money of an inspiron 1520 or 1720 on an xps system to be able to play games playable on a 3 year old system. 3 Comments » Docking station with 2 DVI outs Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by sdech 07/19/07 I would like to see docking station that have 2 DVI outs instead of one DVI & one analog (VGA). I am running dual monitors on my docking station now and the crisp clean look of the digital connection is far superior to my analog connection. It sure would be nice to have the exact same look and feel on my dual monitors. 5 Comments » DUAL DVI ON LAPTOP & PORT REPLICATOR Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jsun9 02/24/07
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR A VGA PORT ON LAPTOPS AND PORT REPLICATORS. DVI (incl. DVI-D) for _everything_ please Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by pstader 02/20/07 Too bad our purchasing missed to order the DVI Riser Card with our Optiplex. The guy who ordered extra picked Ultrasharp Displays with DVI input, which we have to use via the analog connection. No warning, no nothing during the order process. Why even sell computers without DVI ? Analog connections might have been alright for everything up to 1024 * 768 resolutions but everything above that really benefits a lot from dvi. So please. Make DVI standard and not optional. Would love to see Notebooks with Dvi connector too. 4 Comments » Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by dellmanfred 02/20/07
I cannot understand why we still have to be punished with these vga plugs build into notebooks. Who's actually buying a CRT monitor these days so that he/she would need a vga plug?!?! DVI ports on notebooks and tablets Laptops submitted by sjss 02/21/07 With modern monitors and equipment shifting more and more towards DVI connections, and the fact that a DVI to VGA convertor is trivially obtained, but there are no VGA to DVI convertors easily obtainable, it makes sense to move notebooks to DVI. Those with VGA monitors can still easily connect them to their monitors, and those with DVI monitors will be able to use their monitors as well. 5 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Latitude products, Vostro products submitted by coachcg 07/21/07
Vostro looks like a good system and has some strengths over Latitude like the enhanced integrated sound, longer battery life, and better screen option, but lacks docking capability. So I went with Latitude, but I could really use those features mentioned. Could Dell look into adding those options to Latitude notebooks or adding a docking option to Vostro? Make a calendar with all COMING SOON and IN PROGRESS ideas Advertising and Marketing, IdeaStorm submitted by krasmussen 09/22/07 **REVIEWED**
One of the biggest annoyances with IdeaStorm is that the horizon for an idea being implemented is very blurry, if at all existing. If you're lucky, you get "third quarter 2009", but mostly, there is no timeframe at all. This leads to the feeling that not much is being done, and exactly that feeling is what IdeaStorm should be eliminating. Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by rockettech 05/03/07 Simply put, delete the VGA external video on all but bare-bones models and use DVI for external video. DVI can always be adapted to VGA, but not vice-versa. DVI can also be used to breakout to composite and component video. There is alot more flexibility with a DVI connector. And don't you dare use a proprietary connector on the notebook that requires an adapter, like the Apple iBooks and MacBooks. 15 Comments » Education, Sales Strategies submitted by cnmopt 02/18/07 **ALREADY OFFERED** Similar to Apple, Dell should offer students a special discount on Dell Products. The Apple market share is currently growing in the education sector and offering [college] students a discount would be useful to counter Apple's strategy. 42 Comments » Remove: "Dell recommends Windows Vista™..." from any publication Advertising and Marketing submitted by tho.meier 02/21/07
It would be nice to see advertising without any Micro$oft, from Dell. I think there is enough advertising for MS from MS it self. Don't Make Me Go Straight to Crucial after ordering Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies submitted by pepitoe 02/19/07 Memory prices are still ridiculous, and it is common knowledge that if you want more than the standard memory in a dell, you buy it elsewhere. If you priced it more competitively you might actually sell more. At the moment to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB in an Inspiron 9400 costs £211.50, the same from Crucial is £119.94 and you will have 1GB of Dells memory left to sell or whatever. 5 Comments » Universal power adapter (power supply) for all Dell products Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by rguptaos-dyndns 02/19/07
How many of us have to buy multiple “AC / DC Adapter or power bricks” for each of electronic devices and laptops? I have power supply adapter for home, office and travel bag… about 2-3 of these for my laptop, cell phone and external hard disk or other devices I use. Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by alan8373 02/20/07 Pre-load ubuntu on dell laptops and desktops (especially laptops!) 6 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by icantseeyou 02/21/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
From all of the press I have read it is plain that Vista is a big bomb. To buy the cheapest version I hear it isn't even as good as XP SP2. At the same time you need at least 4 Gig to run it. Offer other options... I don't care if it's Linux, XP, or a rat running on a wheel. Don't make us buy Vista. Ditch the Home/Small Business/Enterprise trichotomy Sales Strategies, Small Business, Laptops submitted by majid 02/17/07
What products I am interested in do not correlate with myself or my company size. It used to be that high-end thin-and-light laptops would not be available in the Home segment, only the Enterprise segment. I'm sorry, just because I am a small-business owner or a home user does not mean I am ready to settle for inferior options deemed "good enough" by the powers that be. New Dell Retail Store! Death to Mall Kiosks! Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by evilspell 02/16/07 Dell should open a retail store very similar to the Apple store. I know that they have small kiosks inside malls that they try to sell Plasma TV's and a couple laptops next to a guy selling knock off sunglasses and verizon cell phone sales sharks! Very unprofessional. Open a classy Dell Store and offer Tech support right in the store just like the Genius Bar in the Apple Store. 144 Comments » track my votes
