M1330 2008!

XPS products submitted by q0987 Jan 12

Before I submit my idea it would be nice if someone could let me know what is the status of the slot-loading blu-ray drive which was promised for the M1330. I know that it has already been implemented into the new M1530 but what about the 13 inch model. Is it still in the works or has it been cancelled all together?
One other thing which concerns me are the SSDs. I mean they have already been released in the US for quite a while now yet in the UK/EU they are not even available as options.
If someone could get back to me on this it would be very helpful.

Now onto the main bit. I think that sometime during this year a major update to the m1330 should be carried out after the above issues have been addressed. I would like to recommend that the following components be updated:

Platform (from Santa Rosa to Montevina) MID-2008
Memory modules (to DDR3-800 w/ Montevina)
Processor (to Penryn - T9500) ALREADY RELEASED!
Graphics card (to Geforce 9 series - 9500M GS) OUT NOW!
Ethernet port (to Gigabit - c'mon its a XPS/business notebook)
Keyboard (backlit keys)
Solid State Drive (next gen w/ improved random write speeds)

Keep all other features/specs the same. Maybe use some magnesium or something (carbon fibre?) to further improve the quality of the product. Keep the LED backlit screen, blu-ray drive and SSDs. Don't cram in any more ports. Although you might want to design a new face for it similar to an alienware system!

The reason why I am stating this is because I think this notebook has the potential to be even better than it already is and these changes will help to make it truly the best. 3 Comments »

IMPLEMENT the INTEL PENRYN 45nm Processor on Dell's Notebook and Desktop it require less power more performance NOW!!! Dell is behind from HP

Desktops and Laptops submitted by bryan14c Jan 9

Dell should start to sell notebook with Penryn processor because it require less power more performance
T9500 6MB L2 2.60 GHz 800 MHz
T9300 6MB L2 2.50 GHz 800 MHz
T8300 3MB L2 2.40 GHz 800 MHz
T8100 3MB L2 2.10 GHz 800 MHz
specially on the XPS line etc... , well i hope DELL would not overcharge the consumers , dell can you sell this to us right now!!! for now it seems dell is falling behind again , well they have catchup with their design but somehow they fall behind with the power inside the laptop especially the penryn processors , dell hear us now implement the PENRYN processor , your behind from HP now , if you have gone to hp website and choose the dv9700t and dv6700t model you will see that HP is getting started about the Intel Penryn T9300 6MB L2 2.50 GHz as an option, , i dont know why DELL is Behind they should implement this now!!!

Update M1330 GPU to beat specs of LG P300

Gaming, XPS products submitted by tenrou 12/10/07

Basically LG of Korea has released a 13.3" notebook called Xnote P300. Link here:
http://www.lge.co.kr/brand/xnote/product/BrandProductListCmd.laf?brand=XNOTE&...< notable thing about this model it the inclusion of a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS with 256Mb of dedicated VRAM and the possibility to configure it with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7700. It also weighs in at just 1.6kg.

The 8400M GS in the M1330 is definetly lacking in power I'm hoping that Dell might consider upgrading the GPU in said laptop in conjunction with the introduction of the Penryn processors in early January.

Please, I'm dying to find a properly portable laptop to do graphics programming on (my major at the university) and that I can buy in Japan.

Please promote this if you'd like to see the GPU of the M1330 upgraded to *at least* a 8600M GS with 256Mb gddr3 VRAM. Or at least have the option to select this more powerful GPU along with current offerings in the GPU department.

PS. s-video out would also be *very* nice as well as 1440x900 resolution, but I'll make separate idea-entries for those. DS. 2 Comments »

Updating XPS M1330

Advertising and Marketing, Gaming, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by gattomorbido 12/13/07

Only few days (15 gen 08) and Apple will presents the new 12/13.3" MacBook (Pro?):
thinner, lighter, more powerful.

M1330 will lose the 1st position?
No longer the best e thinner 13.3" notebook ever?
Absolutly no! Don't!!!
M1330 was the best and should remains!

Again, who says little size = little powerful?

Let us choice if we want power or battery duration!
We need a very portable system yes, but it must be full powered!!!

Little AND powerful!

So, Mr. Dell, please updating the M1330, the REAL competitor of MacBook (pardon, Macbook was the competitor... :) with thin features:

- video card 8600gs or superior (see LG P300: they made it!)
- gigabit lan (why only 10/100 lan? chipset support gigabit!)
- webcam better, at least 1.3mpx (LG P300 again)
- no glare effetc option (I want to see what happens on screen!)

I'm waiting your updating BEFORE buy my next Dell notebook.
I must change my Inspiron soon, very soon, so be quick! 8 Comments »

Easier way to OPT OUT of Dell selling my private information

Advertising and Marketing submitted by ninefoot3 10/17/07 **IN PROGRESS**

I rec'd a brochure yesterday saying Dell and DFS were going to share my private info with other 3rd party companies for marketing purposes. Well, it said that in about 5,000 words or so. At the end is a box stating that I may opt-out of this by calling the number listed or writing a letter (including certain info) and send it to the listed address.

I chose to use the phone method. After being shoved around to a few people, I finally got someone who could help me 'opt-out'. This involved 'opening a case' as if I had a technical issue with my account.

My IdeaStorm suggestion, hey Dell, make it easier for us to OPT-OUT of your attempts to make money off of my personal information. What's the matter? Didn't make enough money off of my patronage to Dell products and the interest rates charged? Getting an extra $1 for my name, address and age information going to help Michael Dell get a new boat? C'mon!

While I'm disturbed that Dell wanted to sell me out, I'm more disturbed that Dell made it difficult for us to opt-out. A simple URL would have been nice. I know, that would make more people opt-out and Dell would have less names to sell. It's like a mail-in-rebate or the lack of a cancel button in the account information at freecreditreport.com, you HAVE to call, and since that's a pain in the neck, most people will sloth themselves into something they don't really want. 42 Comments »

Make a calendar with all COMING SOON and IN PROGRESS ideas

Advertising and Marketing, IdeaStorm submitted by krasmussen 09/22/07 **REVIEWED**

One of the biggest annoyances with IdeaStorm is that the horizon for an idea being implemented is very blurry, if at all existing. If you're lucky, you get "third quarter 2009", but mostly, there is no timeframe at all. This leads to the feeling that not much is being done, and exactly that feeling is what IdeaStorm should be eliminating.

Therefore, I propose that you make a list or calender with all the COMING SOON and IN PROGRESS ideas with timeframes for all of them. Just a "december 2008" would be nice, or better yet, "deadline 31st november 2008".

I don't know if this is connected with some goal management inside Dell, if it is, maybe you should work on improving that, too?

Today, the best way to know the progress of an idea is through Ideas in Action, our Weekly Update or Dell comments in the thread.

Use magsafe power connectors

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon.

They are very cool and quite sensible.

There should be an option of having no trialware on all computers

Software submitted by jervis961 08/23/07 **REVIEWED**

Here is a news article about trialware and how Dell feels that regular customers want it but small business ones do. Do they not look at the ideas here?

"Not interested in all of the trial software that clutters up new PCs? You're not alone: According to Dell's recent research in both focus groups and broader surveys, small-business users overwhelmingly view trialware as an irritant, not a benefit. That research has led Dell to axe the extras from its new Vostro line of small-business desktop PCs and laptops. Eliminating demo applications is a major step for Dell, which has caught flack for the quantity of trialware on its consumer PCs. (One frustrated customer went so far as to develop a "Decrapifier" utility. The company says that consumers who buy PCs for personal use do express interest in preloaded trial software, but that small-business users have different needs. By eliminating the trialware from Vostro machines, Dell says it has cut the system setup time in half. For now, Dell is the only major PC manufacturer to ship small-business systems without preinstalled trialware as a standard practice. (Some competitors, such as HP, allow customers to choose a no-trialware configuration.)"

Dell offers a broad amount of software choice and minimal software shipped. Read jeremy_f's post on the options we give our customers

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.
