Clear cased laptop

Laptops submitted by mschamberg 03/30/07

I like to see the amazing components and circuits that make up my Dell. What an amazing statement it would be to show the precision by having a clear case to hold it all together. 7 Comments »

Need to work on Display on Laptops

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by royalk2c2 04/06/07

Dell definitely needs to work on laptop display. This is one area where I believe Dell is legging behind in comparison to other companies in market. Look at a HP, Thinkpad and you will see the difference. Comment »

Air Purifier / Filter for the Dell desktop PC

Desktops, Environment submitted by kyliemanders 04/06/07

Most people leave their desktops on 24/7. Since we already have a cooling fan in place why not give us a removable cleanable air filter.
This would keep the inside of our Dell PCs free from unsightly dust as well as purify the air we breath.
You can make additional profits selling replacement filters. These could be scented or offer health benefits such as reducing allergens. These would be applicable for both Vista and Linux PCs. 16 Comments »

Ubuntu & Win XP Dual boot; Open office and Firefox /Thunderbird

Linux, Operating Systems - Multiboot, Desktops and Laptops submitted by bsteff 02/20/07

Sell desktops (and yes laptops) with dual boot of Ubuntu AND Win XP. My particular work environment cannot tolerate Vista and I don't like the control Microsoft is attempting to exert over my PC. Consumers are NOT mindless idiots!!! GEt rid of DRM. I will gladly pay for digital content and I will not sell/give it to a friend or acquaintance (read pirate/thief). GWA is bad enough with threats from Microsoft to crank up the pressure on non-genuine PC's. I am a physician and I control, to a large extent, at my hospital system what type of software we get in the form of PACS (computerized x-ray digital image viewing on local PC's - thin client) Almost all of imaging is now digital.

The threat of Microsoft DRM degrading images used for the critical diagnosis of patients is intolerable such that we are exerting considerable pressure on vendors to provide clients that run under open source. Why open source? Simplyu because it puts us back in control. If images are degraded and critical diagnoses missed, we docs and our patients are going to pay the price. Ubuntu, and other GUI's of LInux (such as Xandros) can let us avoid this. I run Ubuntu routinely and find it dependable and easy to use. I can trust it. Microsoft has lost my last shred of trust with Vista and its DRM and driver situation.

On another front, we in medicine are under tremendous pressure to cut costs. For a faculty of over 400 at my medical school and staff of about 1500, the cost of MS Office is tremendous. Open Office Org. software is a great help in this regared and even has features that MS Office does not offer. MS has lost our trust. We will probably all use Open Office Org in the future - so why not offer it as loaded at purchase time. I would be willing to pay a nominal fee, say $30-50 for the loading up of the software on my PC so htat i can use it immediately when I receive it.

Dell should know that the loading of all the JUNK software that comes on my PC's from Dell is a Large factor in my reluctance to order new PC's at shorter intervals, no matter what the technical hardware advances.

Firefox, Mozilla thunderbird as well as mozilla sunbird

Linux, Software submitted by rakeshinnovation 02/27/07

I have been an internet user for the past 5 years, I have used all almost all the browsers, and without doubt i can say that in terms of performance, security, and user interface the open source browsers are the best, the kind of addons and features i get with Firefox i will never be getting with internet explorer, so i was thinking why do not dell ship computers with Firefox Mozilla thunderbird and the calendar software subird???? it could add to the efforts of the open source community, me as a supporter for the open source community would love to see Dell systems with open source applications, I would request that all people who support open source please cast your valuable vote for this idea, I was also thinking that if the Mozilla community cooperates with Dell , Dell could have a customized browser which will be really good for the customers of the Dell and it could add value to the Dell line of products, lets see the what Dell's thinks about this idea//?

Do post your feedbacks,

Dell partners with The Air Car

Dell, Environment, Laptop Power submitted by reg 03/26/07

The Air Car runs on Compressed Air. It is the only car with NEGATIVE EMISSIONS RATINGS! Air is Cleaner coming out of it than going into it!

The Air compressor filters air as it goes into the car, and the car filters the air as it goes out. The Air car acts as a transportable atmospheric scrubber system.

Click the Air Car to see other models.

Dimensions: 3.84m, 1.72m, 1.75m
Weight: 750 kg
Maximum speed: 110 kmh
Mileage: 200 - 300 km
Max load: 500 Kg
Recharge time: 4 hours (Mains connector)
Recharge time: 3 minutes (Air station)

No Combustion, no pollution, no heavy electric battery, no heavy metals, no toxic leaks. It use just compressed AIR. Travel for only a few cents, instead of more than $2.00 a gallon of gas.

Burning gasoline is expressed as exploding expanding gases. Why use liquids at all, when AIR is so much cleaner, easy to store, and actually helps the environment?

HOW IT WORKS: The Air Car. 20 Comments »

Another IdeaStorm bug...

IdeaStorm submitted by benjesuit 03/26/07 **REVIEWED**

When an post is demoted, the original poster's points continue to increase.
A demotion should equal a subtraction of the original poster's points.
Math counts.
Points only increase when a user's idea is voted up, but they don't decrease if someone votes them down. We do this so users can post ideas without being penalized for trying or. So, if you post an idea you think is good but the community didn't your personal points will not decrease.

Dell Support drivers: Only 2 downloads at a time

Dell Web Site submitted by tleavit 03/26/07

As a network admin with 200 Dell's, I have to visit the support page quite often to download drivers. Dell only allows you to download 2 at a time. This is a pain and causes me to a lot of extra time. Please allow more downloads at one time. 5 should allow me to get what I need for any given PC rebuild. 2 Comments »

Top Ten/Demoting Stories/Clear the Clutter

IdeaStorm submitted by captainsensible 03/26/07

After about 8 hours of demoting linux repeats, suggesting changes to Windows (where's Microsoft's IdeaStorm), all kinds of 3rd party hardware Dell should sell, people posting their personal information, and blank posts galore, there should really be a Top Ten for the day/week/month/year.

Heey, throw in Top Demoted Posters too, for fun!

Cash in your Dell Idea Storm Points

Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by steveoc 03/26/07

Dell has created this virtual concept of Dell Idea Storm points, and some people are rightlfully asking 'Whats all this about ? - what can I use these points for ?'

Well, here is my shot at explaining this phenomena, and you will see that it presents an excellent opportunity for Dell to turn this whole ideastorm points into cold hard cash ....

Imagine this ridiculous scenario :

You can freely exchange Dell points (Dell Ideastorm Cred, or DIC) with Linden Dollars on a par rate (One $DIC == One $L).

This allows you to use your Dell Ideastorm Cred to boost your abilities in secondlife,

Or alternatively, you can sell virtual goods in secondlife, and exchange these for Dell Ideastorm Cred, and get noticed more when you post.

Note that both $DIC and $L are non-transferrable, you are not allowed to trade them over ebay in exchange for non-virtual goods or services of equivalent value. You can however convert from $L to $US by going through the officially sanctioned linden currency converter, or you can purchase $L for $US using the same exchange forum.

As your Dell Ideastorm Cred increases, you can progress through various 'Levels'. ie - Someone with a level 5 DIC can embed images and links to other sites in their posts, and they get to hit the promote/demote buttons up to 5 TIMES for any given idea. This gives them a lot of power compared to brand new members of ideastorm.

Beyond level 2, ideastorm members can access the ideastorm shop, where they can use DIC to purchase extra items, such as 'The +4 Blade of Cleaving', which allows them to chop 4 lines off other posts they dont like. The legendary 'BFG-1000 regex deathray' allows you 1 shot to run a regular expression over someone else's idea.

The fabled 'Mother of all Nukular Expressions' is rumoured to allow the weilder to run a single regex across all ideas and comments over the entire site. With great power comes great responsibility .. but we all know that power corrupts as well - what will happen when someone finally coughs up the $DIC 1 million to buy the MNE ? Will we see 's/linux/windows/gi' being executed ?

Will some very wealthy new user purchase a $US billion worth of $L, exchange it into $DIC, and completely reverse the meaning of the whole IdeaStorm site ?

Will we see Requests for Vista suddenly creep into top position ? 3 Comments »

Laptop rucksack

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by greythanis 03/27/07

I must say that the dell laptop briefcases are top-notch quality and design.
But how about a backpack? They are extremely practical, and that way i don't show the world "look at me, i've got a laptop", which would be better for cities where mugging is common. Also, thieves that snatch and run are not going to pick a backpack that easily.
If we could have a compartment for the notebook, one for documents, one for ac adaptor, mouse, cables, etc... and maybe a large compartment for anything else (shopping, clothes, etc.) and a water bottle holder.
I dont say replace the briefcase, i say offer the option of a backpack. Comment »

Dell should sponsor American Idol

Dell submitted by guardianxps 03/24/07

Hey Dell,

During the last show of American Idol they showed how some large fortune 100 companies were contributing to a good cause to help the poor.

Dell has already shown its ability to understand, recognize, and act on the enviornment. So, maybe it would be cool to see Dell work with a good cause and helping the poor both here in the US and in Africa.

Just a thought. 3 Comments »
