Worlds thinnest and inexpensive laptop

Laptops submitted by horsedrag 07/28/07

Todays laptops remain vertually unchanged. Their the same hot running boat anchors. Without any new or exotic pieses laptops can be supper fast, super thin, all at a fraction of the cost. The idea is so novel and original that once told people state, "why didn't I think of that." Thease products would be the ultimate in simplisity yet have every bell and wistle one could imagine. TV, phone, DVD, graphics, super fast internet, gamming, yet be about 1/2" thick and weigh about 2 lbs. They shouldn't cost more then $300 and every school child, and household would have several. 8 Comments »

To make good ouside shape and thin laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by yenct 03/02/07

I don't like the outside shape of latest Dell's Laptops at all (except Latitude D620), and I don't like thick laptop at all. Dell's laptops look too thick and ugly in shape design. I still like the shape of Dell's old model like Latitude D600.

I think the outside shape, weight (compared with the same screen size of laptops from other brands) and thickness (height) are the three most important things for me to choose a laptop if the performance between laptops is similar. Especially for Asia buyers like Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese etc., many buyers from Asia don't like the laptop with bad, ugly or heavy looked like design.

Lenovo T60 is only 1.0~1.2 inches in height (LCD 14") and HP's NC6400 is only 1.1 inches in height (LCD 14").

I hope Dell can make good shape in design and good look Laptops. Comment »

Thin and Light Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by yaletownkid 04/19/07

I used to be all about performance and display with my choice of laptop. But I went "thin and light" about 3 years ago, and I will never go back!

I know the majority of buyers prefer the 15" (or bigger) screens, and big wrist-wrest keypads, but have you ever tried to use one on a plane? Send the Product Manager on a few cross-country, economy class flights and they'll see what I mean. I have an office, home office, and i"m mobile daily. Honestly try carrying around 8lbs and 15" form factor - its like carrying dumbbells.

Please look into:
1. Form factors of 12" screens, Less than 3lbs
2. try magnetitic power connection
3. solid state memory possibilities
4. Dire need of a style/design update. My 640m has all the sex appeal of a dial tone.
5. I would pay a premium to NOT have all that bloatware pre-installed.
6. the optical drive - can we make this totally optional?

Thanks for letting me participate. 1 Comment »

Dell Thin Clients

Servers and Storage submitted by beijaflor 02/19/07

Dell is able to make full PCs for $359.

Imagine what would be the prize of "terminals" for thin client computing ...
- a low-consuming processor at 500-700 Mhz
- no fan design
- on-board 128 Mb flash
- on board 512 Meg RAM
- VESA mountable
- solid state architecture
- PXE bootable

- Remote OS and application :
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9097
Or even Windows Terminal Server for small deployment if people have the money to pay it.

Thin computing answers to 75% of needs related to computers in school, librairies, hospitals and more ...

Dell could even sell the servers coming with the "thin-clients solutions" ...

I also see the Screen+Keyboard+Mouse option

And think about the network ...

With modern thin-computing solutions, the deployments are made on a larger scale (thousands of terminals across fiber networks) and with thin-clients provided by a large company like Dell, the savings could be on the hardware AND on the software ...

No Extra Software Option

Software submitted by ootleman 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS.
