Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon. Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself. Standardize Power Cables for Laptops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades. Put Ubuntu on the list of operating systems when building a PC! Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by samb0057 08/10/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. There should be an option of having no trialware on all computers Software submitted by jervis961 08/23/07 **REVIEWED**
Here is a news article about trialware and how Dell feels that regular customers want it but small business ones do. Do they not look at the ideas here? XPS products submitted by nosintake 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
I think there should be a 15" XPS laptop. There are plenty of companies that have a 15" "gaming laptop". I think there should be a Dell XPS with a rotating camera, 1GB RAM, Blu-Ray player, and 80GB hard drive standard. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by gautam 02/16/07 The Dell Axim PDA is not super-popular, but I think if it moved into the SmartPhone realm (especially in order to compete with upcoming iPhone) then it could pick up some market-share and be a great device for US cell phone providers. 92 Comments » HD-DVD Support would be nice...... Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by joeevil5000 06/01/07 I noticed that Dell used to support HD-DVD in some ways, before their partnership with Sony. Dell never had HD-DVD drives in thier PC's but carried HD-DVD players. Since the Dell plasma TV's were discontinued, Dell has partnered with Sony for larger 1080p enabled LCD TV's. Also, since then, Blu-Ray drives, and and players have shown up in mass on dell.com. Dell no longer carries HD-DVD players, and even as a blow to Microsoft, they don't even carry the HD-DVD drive for Xbox 360. With no clear winner in the HD format war, having a choice between HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray would open up some possibilities. Honestly, I have no idea why Dell still partners with Sony. Sony provided Dell with the infamous exploding laptop batteries, that dilvered a severe blow to Dell's reputation. 8 Comments » Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by smfrick 06/01/07 If Dell is truly building a retail model, I would like to see dell place a self help kiosk in that retail outlet where I could take my computer purchased there (or online) and have my system re-imaged to either how I purchased the system or If I want to add more software. Other services which could be provided would be on the spot diagnostics, a list of upgrade options, maybe a video conference to a service technician who can help me. Premium services like a backup of my system or data files, or maybe consultation thru video with a sales person who could advise me on what programs I need to do the function I'm trying to perform. I think it's great that Dell is moving to the retail stores, but don't loose the direct relationship to the customer! Comment » Keeping up with Laptop compitition Laptops submitted by joeevil5000 06/01/07 Dell needs to keep up with the compitition with thier notebook line, as far a features go. Gateway, HP, ect. offer Laptops with numeric kepads, and fingerprint scanners, but Dell does not. I personally think fingerprint scanners are a pointless waste of money, but others may not, so these things could be configurable options. 7 Comments » IdeaStorm people - mark ideas done when they get completed. I just noticed another IdeaStorm Idea that was Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas submitted by jorge 06/02/07
Dell one way to save and improve International sales is with this blank keyboard, it works for any language! Even English! With such a keyboard no one will complain that the keys are not set for their language and Dell can offer stickers (at extra charge) with the key letters and symbols needed for those not so familiar with a keyboard. It also works great for Linux users as there is no predefined keys so they can configure as they wish, no matter how badly. Get rid of that ridiculous new checkout system! Dell Web Site submitted by joeevil5000 06/02/07 I have worked at a Dell Direct Store kiosk for the past 6 months, and Dell's checkout system has been flawless. But now, they are experimenting with a new flash based checkout sytem. It has done nothing but create website problems, and screw up orders. Yes, it's prettyer, but the layout is confusing, and aparenty the webmasters at Dell are'nt very good with flash, because most aspects of it fail. PLEASE do not change the checkout system! 8 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by joeevil5000 06/02/07 Dell needs to include real physical instruction manuals with thier PC's. I've had plenty of customer ask why there is no intructions with thier PC. There are instruction manuals on dell.com, and PDF manuals on thier recovery partitions, but most customer would want something printed. Nobody wants to print out a 200+ page behemoth on a little inkjet printer. 6 Comments » HDMI Enabled HDTV PC Monitor hybrid Monitors and Displays submitted by joeevil5000 06/02/07 With HDMI video cards on the horizon, Dell could possibly offer HDMI enabled monitors, with a configurable option of an HD tuner built in. Dell already offers component enabled monitors 24" and above, which is awesome. But, having HDMI, would future proof them, and a built in tuner would also be a plus. Yes most HDTV's support VGA, and DVI, put suck as PC monitors. Having a solution that would be capable of being it's own independent HDTV, and support high-end monitor resolutions would be a huge plus. Comment » Make Standard-format monitors available on all desktop systems Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by lmoseley 06/02/07
The whole idea of WIDESCREEN monitors for desktop computers is backwards from what the customer really needs. Those of us who work WORK with our computers need to see as much as possible of a page on our screens. Same with websurfing... most websites are oriented vertically, rather than widescreen. A 19" widescreen is shorter, top to bottom, than a 19" standard format screen, making the text smaller and harder to read and limiting the part of the page that is visible. Many of the new Dell offers come ONLY with Widescreen monitor options. Make sure Customer Care Reps give customers the proper information about Dell Direct Stores Service and Support submitted by joeevil5000 06/02/07 I am SICK of having to tell my customers that the customer care rep they just spoke to does'nt know what they are talking about. Customer care is consistantly telling customers to go to Dell Direct Store kiosks for repairs, and accesories. We do NOT carry a stock of any products, and we DO NOT do repairs. This is basically giving the customer the impression that we are giving them the run around, and ruining customer experience. 1 Comment » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by sethdixie 06/01/07 Why can't dell offer a configuration for a firewire plug for video cameras, etc? 14 Comments » DirectTV TV Card partnership with Dell Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell, Laptops submitted by busterlee 06/02/07 Dell should form a partnership with DirectTV to develop an add in card for Dell Laptops that allows for TV reception anywhere much like it has with the mobile internet card. Obviously, the TV subscription is separate. DirectTV now has a portable TV but nobody want to carry both, so intergration with a Laptop is definitely feasible and desirable to customers.
