new perspective

New Product Ideas submitted by kth_eckert Yesterday

My girlfriend and I were sharing the sofa watching a movie. Our heads were propped up on pillows, at best 30 degrees. The thought came to me that photo programs allow you to rotate the picture 90 degrees, So why cant you rotate your television picture in the same manner. For people who are bed ridden or as in my case sofa sharing this could make for a more comfortable movie watching experience. 1 Comment »

movie night

New Product Ideas submitted by bledyard 3 days ago

picture this... the long lines at the movie theatre, the crying baby that the mother cant do anything with, the pre-teens and teens running wild. If you are as tired of this as I am, I propose we do something about it. I propose that we develop a partnership with either cable companies or satalite providers and have the movies that are in the theatre in our household. I know that I would pay $50 per movie to have this feature available to me so I wont have to deal with the above situations. 10 Comments »

Double Sided Monitors

Monitors and Displays submitted by nicole112707 2 days ago

What if you had a double sided Monitor? This would be great solution for schools that have computer rooms seating 2 people to a desk/table facing each other, or even an office environment with partner desks. You could still have the flexibility to raise/lower your screen, or tilt back and forth. This would be attractive to consumers trying to cut down on the price of purchasing multiple monitors at one time. Even the consumer that only sits one to a desk could use the option to show what they are doing to someone sitting across from them. I don't know how many times I’ve been in my boss’s office and he had to turn his monitor around to show me something. Or, maybe you can put a slide show on it... it would be a lot more attractive to look at pictures than the back of ones monitor.... just a thought! 3 Comments »

THE LOUNGE

Dell Community submitted by charisse212 Jul 1

THE LOUNGE WOULD BE THE NEXT MYSPACE. IT WOULD BE A PLACE PEOPLE CAN COME AND TALK TO ALL OF THEIR FRIENDS AT THE SAME TIME. INSTEAD OF JUST BEING ABLE TO INSTANT MESSAGE EACH OTHER ONE AT A TIME, ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS WOULD BE ABLE TO VIEW AND PARTICIPATE IN THE CONVERSATION. YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO CUSTOM DESIGN YOUR OWN ICON WHICH BE A CHOICE OF SEATING ITEM. FOR EXAMPLE YOU CAN CHOOSE A STOOL, CHAIR, COUCH, LOVESEAT, ANYTHING YOU CAN LOUNGE IN AND RELAX. 10 Comments »

education

Education submitted by happier50s Jun 30

Thinking of our youth today, they need and outlet!!! For instance, in my son's 8th grade computer lab all they do is play games - go to my space and listen to music videos. Dell will offer a website that deals with the issues that concern them. From teen pregnancy, drugs, suicide, school, everything. They will be able to log on to actual discussions group. I know that Dell has the resources to offer a program like this in schools. Dell will develop a program ( and i will be a part of this) for schools to participate. The idea is to be more aware of what's going on with our youth, instead of always being a step behind! Our youth need more information, what better way of communication do we have to offer? They are the "right now" age and for those of us who live in "right now". The time is "NOW"
The second part of this program is, Dell will also link the information requested my the youth to agency's that can provide resources. My space and y tube have created enough "ZERO" NOW DELL CAN CREATE SOMETHING. 3 Comments »

make a desktop that actually fits on a desk...

Desktops, Sales Strategies submitted by bjizle Jun 30

Dell regular desktop is very big and ugly.if you ever opened one you would know that all of the space inside the shell is not used. and lets face it how things look and how big it is is key to getting it sold and if dell put a lil more effort in designing a better looking desktop and take that big one off the line they would get a lot more sold. because dells are real good computers... 5 Comments »

Now days people like to take there laptops every where, such as starbucks, jamba juice, coffee bean, parks, etc...but people can not fully enjoy it because they are worrying about people getting to close with drinks, if water is around. Electronic Inflatable Arm Sling

Healthcare submitted by wanda Jun 30

I am a 47 year old Female that recently had surgery on my shoulder. The hardest part after surgery was trying to lift my arm without the aid of someone helping me. As I was visiting my Son in the hospital a few days following my surgery, I was amused at how the mattress at different intervals would shift by going up or down automatically. I know this was put in place a few years ago due to bedridden patients not being turned in a timely manner and were getting bed sores. As I sit there with my arm in the cloth sling I said wow that would be neat if they made a sling that would raise your arm at 30 minute, 45 minute, or 1 hour intervals. This would aid in speedier recovery time and help those that are well advanced in age. 5 Comments »

Email Yellow Pages

New Product Ideas submitted by cpinkston Jun 30

I would love to have a website that would allow me to access people's email addresses. Just like an online phonebook, but with email addresses. Why doesn't this exist? If you have ever lost a contact's email address you know how helpful a site like this could be. If phone numbers can be made public so can email addresses and if you wish to not be listed it's that simple. 4 Comments »

Integrated Monitor

Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by inczo757 Jun 30

I think it would be cool to have the monitor integrated into the side of the Desktop Tower. There is alot of surface area here and it should be easy enough to incorporate a thin LED or LCD screen into the side of the tower you remove when doing updates. Im using a Dell Pecision 690 and that could easily have a 24" monitor in its side. 8 Comments »

Minimize foreclosures

Software submitted by solugrp Jun 30

I'm in the beginning stages of creating a real estate software that will minimize bad real estate purchase deals. This application will be housed on a pc tablet with a retractable keyboard and swivel monitor that will allow for an electronic signature with a stylus. The security of the data will be done through the buyers SS# which when entered will automatically encrypt the numbers except for the last 3-4 digits. This process will minimize the forging of signatures and the fudging of numbers in order to make the buyer qualify. This also will move us to a more paperless environment. 8 Comments »

Dell should make XP Home, not just XP Pro, available until the Microsoft "end of life" date of June 30.

Operating Systems submitted by drewness Jun 23

At about 4pm EST today I was on the Dell site looking at laptops and desktops. I found that Dell no longer offers XP Home as of June 18, even though Microsoft's "end of life" date for XP is June 30. So one is forced to pay an extra $99 for XP Pro because XP Home is no longer an option. Dell should stop this and offer us XP Home until the "end of life" date of June 30. I hope Microsoft will reconsider scrapping XP, but I know how it will go down: we'll be stuck with Vista. At least it won't be around long- Windows 7 is due in late 2009. 12 Comments »

How about another update on the highest voted ideas.

IdeaStorm submitted by jmxz Jun 19

It seems many of the highest voted Ideas are the most neglected by Dell

Pre-Installed OpenOffice | alternative to MS Works & MS Office (currently with 138079 points) has been one of the top-5-highest-voted Ideas on IdeaStorm since Feb 07. It has no "Status" regarding whether it's in progress, or rejected; and the only comments from Dell were just one employee's personal opinion.

No OS Preloaded (with 85050 points), has also been one of the top-5-highest for over a year. It's status is the same partial implementation (available on a couple models) that has been true from Dell since long before IdeaStorm was around (2004, if I recall). Clearly the Idea is popular because people want to see it on more models. Rather than just labeling the Idea as "partially implemented as always" - could you give some update on the progress on this Idea.

Firefox instead of IE (with 115593 points) has also been a top-5 idea for over a year. With the recent release of FireFox 3 - along with great press from the technology and business industry alike, another update on this idea would be very welcome. The recent Forbes article Why Firefox Matters clearly sees Firefox as the industry leader, and Wall Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal explicitly states that Firefox 3.0 Is the Best Browser for Web. Surely Dell would want to offer the best for their customers, no? 41 Comments »

Keyboard light

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by ccpljat Jun 19

keyboard light

Dell should make something similar to this light. It is located at the top of the screen and shines down on the keyboard to illuminate it at night. It is activated by a function key combination. 14 Comments »

Make 3 Year Warranty Default on all your PCs/Laptop.

Service and Support submitted by thebittersea Jun 16

I believe sales will increase if Dell makes the "3-year" warranty as part of the standard package with their PCs.

I think everyone wants it but on one's willing to pay for the extended warranty. 26 Comments »

Maintain a FULL customer profile for home OR business users.

Service and Support submitted by phubert Jun 16

If Dell would construct a FULL customer profile for each purchaser, whether home or business, and have it available to both the customers AND service techs, Dell could:

* provide features the customer does not now have
* provide more effective support
* save DELL _and_ its customers costs in both actual $$ and in time spent
* save environmental costs as well 11 Comments »
