Give discount for the delays

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by saleemohaib 08/29/07

These days there are delays with some of Dell products. I think as good gesture Dell should offer extra discounts to customers who order products with extended delivery time.

Small Business submitted by nimitsoni 08/28/07

To start up a software company has no more a physical boundary.. I think virtual office is the best option to keep in touch with your co-workers who are in this business with you.. Site like www.office.com is providing a good platform to do business online.. No matter one is sitting in New Delhi and other in New York they can create a best work with the help of this kinda thing........ 1 Comment »

Do Not Sell or Distribute Anything Utilizing Windows Genuine Advantage

Dell, Software submitted by kenjennings 08/27/07

It's bad enough most Dell customers must be afflicted with Windows, but then Microsoft can't keep their Windows Genuine Advantage servers operating (another reason Windows is a lousy server OS). Most users not knowing any better would just blame the one who sold them the computer. Who can even count the billions lost in productivity around the world, or the goodwill lost for Dell itself, because Microsoft's servers falsely accused computer users of being pirates?

Save Dell customers from frustration. Save Dell's reputation. Just say no to WGA. 13 Comments »

Give Europe the 1420(N)

Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by exul182 08/27/07

Due to my extreme dissatisfaction with not being able to buy a 1420 I have decided to post an idea dedicated to this problem. It is obvious that there are a lot of potential Dell customers out there that are waiting for this notebook and I have seen comments about this problem on several other ideas, so its best to merge them in one dedicated post. pre-configure ubuntu

Linux submitted by calimarno 08/27/07

I think Dell should not only pre-install Ubuntu, but also pre-configure it, so that the end-user can use his computer without losing time for configuration steps. 14 Comments »

Other Linux OS beside Ubuntu

Linux submitted by billb0b 08/26/07

Nice to read that Dell is going to install a Linux OS on there system. I see the Ubuntu as the number one choice . The down side with that OS is Gnome as a desktop as KDE is better replacement for users coming from a Windows OS to Linux. One of the best Linux OS is called PCLinuxOS which is close to being a straight Windows replacement. I know that there a Kubuntu which has KDE as it's desktop but after running both version of the OS Ubuntu and Kubuntu . Kubuntu needs a lot of work to become a replacement for Windows.
Check out PCLinuxOS as the number one replacement for Windows. 3 Comments »

How an existing windows customer migrate to or install Ubuntu?

Linux, Operating Systems submitted by yesmathew 08/26/07

As Dell also pre-installs Ubuntu on selected Notebooks and Desktops. As most of the Dell computers are Ubuntu friendly. Many existing Dell users would like to switch to or try Ubuntu Linux, a Dell web site or wiki dedicated on this subject will encourage to try a better and safer free operating system to those who do not want to dump their computers for new non-free operating system. Help reduce e-waste. Save Planet.

Remember:
- "Windows viruses” are not computer viruses.
- "Windows bugs” are not computer bugs.
- "Windows blue screen deaths” are not computer blue screen deaths.
- "Windows performance issues" are not computer performance issues. 27 Comments »

Line-in for the notebook screen

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by ikea 08/25/07

My Inspiron 1721 has a Full-HD screen but I only use it for notes during studies. At home it only stands there with that nice screen.
Give me a way to use the laptop full-HD screen as a secondary with my monster PC. 6 Comments »

All versions of Vista for Inspiron laptop series (All laptops)

Operating Systems, Laptops submitted by saleemohaib 08/25/07

I was recently checking out the new and beautiful Dell Inspiron 1720/1721 and saw that no Vista Ultimate is offered. I think it would be a good idea to offer all versions of Vista for customers to chose from. Including the 64bit Vista Ultimate for customers who want to but a laptop with 4GB of RAM.

Gooo.... GREEN

Environment submitted by biswashreedey 08/24/07

People might think this idea is stupid, but if Einstein listened to people who said he'd fail then he wouldn't have become Einstein.

Computers can be made with biodegradable polyfibres made of corn. The chip can be replaced by cell nucleus. Genes can be programmed to perform arithmetic functions and store data like it is done by brain cells. Virus cells can be eliminated by programmed cell death. The wirings can be done by nerve cells. The screen can be made with chemicals present in the body of firefly that can illuminate.

Every part of a non-biodegradable computer can be replaced with some or other part of our natural biodegradable world. This idea has prospects because like a computer chip, the brain also can store and process information, and in a much better way. Our bodies can and should be an inspiration for our technology because we have some of the most complicated systems in our body. 6 Comments »

High(er) spec Ubuntu laptops for UK/France/Germany

Inspiron products, Linux, Laptops submitted by jarocooke 08/24/07

I am literally sitting here willing to buy a Dell Ubuntu the second it is available, however there are a few things that it must have:

1. FSB of 667Mhz (at least)
2. A Core 2 Duo processor
3. A 1440x900 display

These things are all available options on the US 1420N model and were they available in the UK I would already have bought one. Please offer a higher spec laptop with Ubuntu installed as soon as possible. 4 Comments »

More detailed hardware specs when building a computer

Service and Support, Desktops and Laptops submitted by bbr 08/24/07

Like a number of other users, i like to mix and match a system, but with the ease of a system put together by dell.

Show per component what the detailed specs are.
So we know what we're getting, perhaps there are equal quality components, for a lower price available, perhaps users want different hardware.

I could see this being difficult however, since you could go to a hardware store, buy 1500 Euros worth in loose components and end up with a computer equal to a 2000 euro dell system. More detailed component specs however will never hurt anyone though.
what's the refresh time of the monitor, size and manufacturer of the HD, buffer, ram size, bus speed, clock speed of the video card. etc.

OpenBIOS/LinuxBIOS Machines, Laptops in particular

Linux, Laptops submitted by smoe 08/23/07

It would of course be brilliant if Dell would offer such directly. To support the respective developers though would already be sufficiently fantastic.

We might have Laptops that even when they are not shut down are back running in a few seconds. 2 Comments »

Enable us to change an existing idea vote, if we make a mistake

IdeaStorm submitted by cosh 05/01/07

A few times I've accidentally clicked on the wrong button, or voted after reading the title of an idea but wanted to change it once I read the whole thing. Could you make it so we can still click the promote button after demoting or the demote button after promoting?

Better than having inaccurate vote counts because of clumsy people like me!

Thanks! 131 Comments »
