3d printer - rapid prototyping machine?

New Product Ideas submitted by rpman Jan 1

I have extensive experience in the rapid prototyping field and I currently foresee a very large market coming down the road for affordable personal desktop 3d printers. Some of the existing markets include, toy, dental, visual studio production. Many small engineering companies currently pay a lot to outsource rapid prototyping and are budget constricted for development. There are a number of small companies developing affordable 3d printers ~8-17k retail price, however, I think that Dell could leverage its enormous r&d budget to develop a low cost, quality product that would push the market into affordable rapid product development. 3 Comments »

Release Systems with new major components on the same day they are annouced by the Hardware/Software Vendors

New Product Ideas, Service and Support submitted by lugo02 Feb 15

-Subtittle, Or at least on the day after.
e.g. When Nvdida announces a new Graphic Processor you can pick one up at Newegg.com and e-tailer that same day.

When ATI announce a new Graphics Card, you can bet that newegg.com has it.

I've have Seen Alienware have systems availble the same day that Intel/AMD/NVIDIA announces a new major component, yet I have to wait weeks or months before those new components can be configured on a Dell, but by then another major coponent is already out the door.

I am still waiting for you(Dell) to update the XPS 7xx with an NVidia 780i Motherboard chipset, until then I am holding my money.

Dell, we need faster development fom you.
oh yeah, I am still waiting on the 2408-HC 2 Comments »

Laptop Screen that Rotates

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by badblood 09/06/07

Widescreen laptops are nifty for watching movies, yet they are rubbish for writing documents.

On selected laptops make it possible to rotate the monitor - like the picture below - to make it easier to work.....

Thanks

Environment, Laptop Power submitted by reg 06/10/07

Recharge Lithium-Sulfur over and over again. Sulfur is cheaper than heavy metals, and friendly to the environment. No toxic metals, and also better performing in colder temperatures. Lithium-Sulfur batteries also weigh less than Lithium Ion batteries.

More Power, Lower Costs, Safer for the environment, Easier to carry:

LED and OLED displays

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by mike2912 09/14/07

I would like to see more of the laptops and even desktop screens utilise the LED sisplays. The colors are richer and they consume a lot less power. The XPS 1330 is excellent so why not spread the technology to the rest of the products. 1 Comment »

XPS M1530 Led Monitor lighting

Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by valerio.gioia 12/27/07

Led lighting for XPS M1530 displays would be a really interesting option. Many people would choose that display since there is less power consumption and led life is really higher than CCFL tubes! 23 Comments »

White LED Screen for XPS M1530

XPS products submitted by realskript Jan 19

I commend Dell for listening to the Public and providing better resolution screens for the marvelous M1530.

But it must be noted, that White LED screen is essential.
Brighter, lighter, and more power efficient, make this a must for the M1530.
You've put it on the M1330 from its release, and it is about time for the M1530 to have the same privilege. 2 Comments »

Media Direct Instant Office Option and keyboard layout option with all computers especially latitude

Latitude products, Sales Strategies submitted by amimassel 04/29/07

Media direct, Instant Office, and its buttons are awesome, but the only problem is it's only available on the xps and inspiron. I think anyone that has ever had this, would never get a future laptop without it (I was going to get a high end latitude as my dream computer but ended up going back and getting the budget inspiron 1505 because I wanted this feature and wanted a 15inch screen). This is such a great, time-saving program.
Also, I'd make the eraserhead and two extra mouse buttons optional. 1 Comment »

Put both PCMCIA(Cardbus) and Expresscard 54 expansion slots in laptops.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Latitude products, Laptops submitted by mandarinka Mar 23

It's a bit silly that most addon cards available (like TV tuners, controllers, network adapters and mobile internet connection cards) are made for the Cardbus (PCMCIA) interface, now that a lot of laptops is phasing it out in favor of the expresscard bus. I agree that the future lies in the latter and newer expansion slot, but it would be great to still have some backwards compatibility in the years to come.

Therefore I would like to see laptops with both types of slots (just 1+1 probably), at least in the Latitude line. I guess it shouldn't be a big problem, at least in the 15,4" form factor. I have seen some Acer machines that supported this, but that just aint Latitude.

P.S. It would also help if these were not in rack (one atop the other) beacuse the cards tend to have this external thingie that is often bulkier and prevents the insertion of other device in the slot atop it. So give it a thought if it wouldn't be possible to put them in lateral possibtion, next to each other - under the motherboard or under the keyboard... That would be great, I'm sure design-conscious people (well, the practical ones, not teh apple stuff, I fear) would apreciate that. 9 Comments »

Give a choice of either Ati or Nvidia gpu's

Gaming, Desktops and Laptops submitted by theideasman Mar 23

Everyone is a fanboy to one particular brand and prefers their products, so why do some desktops and a lot of laptops only have one option. There should be at least one Ati card and one Nvidia card available for each machine so people dont have to go for the brand they dont want. Its only fair... 7 Comments »

There should be an option of having no trialware on all computers

Software submitted by jervis961 08/23/07 **REVIEWED**

Here is a news article about trialware and how Dell feels that regular customers want it but small business ones do. Do they not look at the ideas here?

"Not interested in all of the trial software that clutters up new PCs? You're not alone: According to Dell's recent research in both focus groups and broader surveys, small-business users overwhelmingly view trialware as an irritant, not a benefit. That research has led Dell to axe the extras from its new Vostro line of small-business desktop PCs and laptops. Eliminating demo applications is a major step for Dell, which has caught flack for the quantity of trialware on its consumer PCs. (One frustrated customer went so far as to develop a "Decrapifier" utility. The company says that consumers who buy PCs for personal use do express interest in preloaded trial software, but that small-business users have different needs. By eliminating the trialware from Vostro machines, Dell says it has cut the system setup time in half. For now, Dell is the only major PC manufacturer to ship small-business systems without preinstalled trialware as a standard practice. (Some competitors, such as HP, allow customers to choose a no-trialware configuration.)"

Dell offers a broad amount of software choice and minimal software shipped. Read jeremy_f's post on the options we give our customers
