3D StereoMirror Display Monitors - For Gaming and Modelling

Gaming, Monitors and Displays submitted by san2shh 05/15/07

I came across this fascinating stuff when browsing through Google as usual. This will surely excite gaming enthusiasts and 3D modellers.

This is a Display Unit for the future. It has a set of two flat panel monitors with a "Stereo Mirror" to create 3 Dimensional effect. The Stereo Mirror apparently is both reflective and transparent. It reflects the display of the top monitor and is also transparent enough to allow the display of the bottom monitor to pass through it. This feature of it, I guess, creates an embossed look. Hmmm, Interesting!

Dell would be the best company of the lot to start selling this with its XPS systems as it can get this product for a good deal from the manufacturer.

Offer video game consoles, games, and movies

Gaming, Sales Strategies submitted by ibuydell 05/10/07

Dell sells Kodak cameras, and other non-Dell branded products, why not offer console systems, games and movies online? If I want to buy someone a camera, someone else a DVD and someone else a notebook for Christman, I can go to Best Buy, but I'd rather go through Dell online if it were possible. Plus, I can't find a Wii anywhere! I wish Dell sold them so I could place my order online and know I'll get one as soon as the next one is available, vs. going from store to store just hopeful that they'll have one left. 3 Comments »

iTunes preinstalled

Software submitted by plesaleza 05/05/07

it seems many people have iPods, and most of those people use iTunes to put music on them. It would be easier if we didn't have to go only and download and install the program. 6 Comments »

Dell should branch out into video game development!!!!

Gaming, Linux submitted by goalsetter21 05/04/07

With Dell's major venture into PC gaming system development (i.e. XPS and the AlienWare purchase), in my opinion Dell should consider purchasing or starting up their own video gaming (VG) software development company.

VG development can be a very high margin business and Dell can leverage it's existing knowledge of gaming hardware performance.

$85 PCs in the news on Forbes - This could be a new segment for Dell too.

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jmxz 05/20/07

Noone really needs 2GHz chips for web & email use.

Businesses (Forbes cites Mc Donalds) as being extremely interested in these $85 PCs with 300MHz CPUs and 128MB of ram. I can testify that they do fine for basic use since I have a Dell Dimension XPS R350 with 128MB of ram and a 350MHz CPU and it's just fine for file serving, email, and light web use.

Some articles on these $85 computers

That minuscule price is attached to Norhtec's Microclient JrSX, a desktop PC the size of a large novel. The Microclient is no Powerbook; it has only 128 megabytes of RAM and a 300-megahertz processor. And instead of a hard drive, it's designed to store data on flash cards. Thailand-based Norhtec's founder, Michael Barnes, says he's already sold thousands of the machines.

Most of those customers have been businesses: One group of McDonald's (nyse: MCD - news - people ) restaurants bought 1,200 to set up their wi-fi networks, he says,

HD-DVD, "The Secret Code", and Dell?

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell, Sales Strategies submitted by oagostinho 05/07/07

Hi,

I think, that everybody knows what happens with HD-DVD's "the secret code" in the internet. In that way, I would like to say a few words:

1) At this moment, Internet give us so powerfull and many choices that it's impossible that some companies can think that have the enough power to say what is right and not. Today, customers, they have one word to say, and think what is better for them? Or in simply way, where they want put their money. But, with this, i don't against with rights authors, of couse not. But it's very important that any enterprive work together with theirs customers in way that both of them win. Basically, with a relationship Win-Win.

2) Apple TV, it's a very nice example for what was I trying to communicate with this post. If you don't understand yet, please go to : http://www.appletvhacks.net/

3) With this, Dell, has this oportunity to show what is your value for this community. Try, to give us, the best valuable possible for us and from your partners. Give the opportunity to sell the cutting-edge tecnology with a reasonable price for us and for you.

4) HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, let the community choose what is the best! With one business model that anybody won.

5) Be Smart, Be Flexible, Be Just Dell, the enterprise that anyone love and continous admired it.

See Ya!!

Desktop tower with LCD display on the side.

Desktops, Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas submitted by chewd 05/03/07

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Take an ATX (or micro) case, stick a 17" (or 15) flat-panel display on the side (ideally with a snap-on cover) put a handle on the top, maybe have the keyboard & mouse clip on or slide out somehow, and youll have the ultimate LAN party machine. All the upgradability and performance of a desktop machine with -some- portability.

Its also ideal for people who want to limit cable clutter or have limited space under the desk.

Please pardon my limited gimp skills. Also apologies to dell for taking their product images & butchering them :) 37 Comments »

Linux

submitted by ecruz 05/07/07

I am willing to bet that Dell will not be selling desktop linux by the summer of 2008.

I am sure that 99.9% of the people that asked for linux at the Dell site were already running linux, advocates, and will not buy a Dell PC anyway.

I have tried suse from 9.0 through 10.2, Kubuntu, Freespire, and I guarantee you that 99% of all people will not devote the time you need just to get linux to connect to the Internet with a ethernet card, least to think of going wireless.

So, once you do all that, weeks on end finding the solutions. Then what? Can you play just simples games like my wife likes to do on gamesville.com, NO!
Dell didn't see or failed to see because the threat from HP, that it is not just email, Internet, and openoffice that most users want. They want to be able to buy whatever they see in the store, and that, they won't be able to do with any flavor of linux.
Dell Linux PC's better be lopaded with all the codecs, etc, that users will need to play their cd's, DVD's, MPGs, etc. Not to do this, will be more foolish than the original idea, preloading linux.

By the way, I am using Vista and have had no problems at all. But if Dell thought this well, OpenSuse should have been the way to go, it is more polished than ubuntu.

Set Digg.com as the default homepage in Firefox

Dell Community, Software submitted by firefoxplease 05/07/07

If Dell listens to its customers, then we'll soon be seeing Firefox as the default browser on their machines. Let's take it one step further and make Digg.com the default homepage in Firefox for Dell machines. 12 Comments »

Debian instead of Ubuntu

Linux submitted by wlaoye 05/07/07

Ubuntu is a derivative of Debian. Why not use the radical rather than the derivative? Dell should pre-install its PCs with Debian and distribute it all over the world.

Now You Choose – Concept 1

Gaming, XPS products submitted by dell_admin1 04/25/07

Participate in the product design process! Dell is using IdeaStorm to decide between two new product design concepts. Vote on your favorite and weigh in to tell us what you think.

When we unveiled the XPS 710 H2C at CES this year, we also uncovered it. There were a limited number of systems sprinkled throughout the show floor that had a clear side panel allowing easy viewing of the patent-pending two-stage H2C liquid cooling system.

Since then, more than a few people have suggested we offer a “panel with a view” as an option for our XPS 710 line. Now we need you to vote for one of these two options and, most importantly, share some reasons why you like it.

This “Now You Choose” vote campaign will be open from Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most votes will be featured in a future generation of XPS gaming desktops.

Dell should sue its greatest enemy -- Death to "http://www.ihatedell.net"!

Dell submitted by winoffice 05/12/07

That web site is offensive and almost certainly is illegal, and unfairly damages Dell's reputation. In fact, I am sure that most of us here at Ideastorm love Dell just for creating Dell Ideastorm! If Dell would sue ihatedell, then things would surely be better for all of us Dell fans. 11 Comments »

Love

Sales Strategies submitted by cosh 05/23/07

Dell should include love with Dell computers. Romance would be a unique and popular selling point.

Okay gotta turn that into a legitimate idea. Er, how about a tag attached to the PC, which you can easily remove, thanking the buyer for their love and offering love back.
