EASY Refund Form for MS Vista and Works Service and Support submitted by reg 03/26/07
. Use widely supported components and Peripherals on Open Source machines Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by jdwilliam 09/14/07 **REVIEWED**
My recently purchased Inspiron 530 (purchased as a FreeDOS system) has sound, integrated NIC, and fax/modem that are not recognized by OpenSuse 10.2. These Open Source systems need to have hardware that is widely supported by the open source community, not just hardware that Dell has worked with Ubuntu to create drivers for. I would certainly rather have had components that were usable rather than cutting edge. Business Tech Support Should Be working off of Vista OS Service and Support submitted by plba 09/28/07
Recently, my small business had to call Tech support right out of the box because the system we received did not come configured as requested. We spent 1hour and 47 minutes on the phone with one tech. She said Dell's Business Support Team was working off of XP Systems so she was not that familiar with Vista. This is a problem for Business' where time means money. In addition, it ends up costing Dell more money because Techs spend more time trying to solve problems of an unfamilliar OS (Vista) Time to bring out the QUAD-CORE processors...! Dell, Don't make it difficult for people to find Ubuntu machines Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by xivulon 08/09/07
Ubuntu is now shipped to Europe, but it is hidden away and not that obvious to find. If you did not follow the news, you would probably have missed it completely. What link do people usually follow when buying a laptop at dell.co.uk? They follow the most preminent links: Notebooks Headphone Jacks - 1 Front & 1 Side or Back Inspiron products, XPS products submitted by jj1908 09/29/07
Since Inspirons/XPS have 2 headphone jacks at the front, why not relocate 1 jack to either side of back. There are those who prefer to use external speakers and it is awkward to have cable protruding & running below your hands "Europe" is not only France + Germany + UK Linux, Service and Support submitted by warp10 08/08/07
Dell started selling PCs equipped with Ubuntu in Europe a few days ago. Anyway, looks like Dell think Europe is only France, Germany and UK. [1] Ad Campaign: What can you do with Ubuntu? Advertising and Marketing, Linux submitted by limulus 09/04/07
There are currently ideas under review, such as "make ubuntu shine" which relate to advertising Dell's Ubuntu systems. If Dell decides to do some ads, here's an idea for an ad campaign: Why Can't Dell Put Linux On Their Really Serious Notebooks? Linux, Service and Support, Laptops submitted by kenjennings 08/09/07
These guys can do it... Visible Link to IdeaStorm on main Dell site Advertising and Marketing, Dell Web Site, IdeaStorm submitted by ipaw 07/01/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
IdeaStorm should have a visible link and explanation on the main Dell site as well as a Desktop shortcut on all new installations. It's discouraging to have a Tier 1 vendor (Dell) selling Linux products and yet not really tailoring to Linux. Don't get me wrong Dell, I am not trying to take away all the good you have done. Offering Linux is a step in the right direction and I would like to see more steps taken in a monthly or quarterly basis. But, it seems that the basis for your current Linux promotion is for the Open Source enthusiast like me. I use Linux at home and at work as my main operating system. I use Firefox as my browser and I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 1420N. However, it seems that the embedded flash script that shows the different colors choices for the Inspiron is not working under Linux. It also shows that I can't see the different images thereafter. It works with Windows running Firefox as my vmware machine verified. But that is not the type of user that will most likely purchase a Linux laptop. Dell: Support Microsoft's latest move with regards to XP Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by cosh 09/28/07 Here's a quote from a news article from the BBC web site: Customer demand has forced Microsoft to extend the shelf life of Windows XP by five months.Read the full article here My idea is simply that Dell support this move by continuing to offer preinstalled Windows XP to those customers who need it for as long as possible, now June 30, 2008. It would be good to get some pledge on this from Dell now, so that companies who still need to use XP know they can continue to rely on Dell for the foreseeable future. (Edit) Lots more about this here: http://news.google.com/news?ned=us&ncl=1121355739 20 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by americasarmyrocks 09/15/07 What is with this "Vista Only Option" on computers. Dell should make ALL of their products avalible with Windows Vista in all editions, Windows XP in all editions INCLUDING Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and Ubuntu. 63 Comments » give more pictures of your computers on the website Dell Web Site submitted by siger 09/28/07 as we can't see the computer before buying it can you please put more pictures of each computer to permit us seeing how it looks like and to see details . 3 Comments » Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has. Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500". Put Ubuntu on the list of operating systems when building a PC! Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. No Limits! Make **all** choices available **anywhere** in the world Sales Strategies submitted by mrw 09/16/07
First example: The Germans are second class customers, because they don't get the same choices for Ubuntu Laptops as in the USA. We here in Switzerland are even third class customers, because we do not get an Ubuntu Laptop at all. Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by xivulon 09/26/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
There are several proposals that basically ask the same thing: SHOW UBUNTU IN THE LIST OF OPERATING SYSTEM ON ALL MACHINES [subtract $50]. And why not, add XP to the list as well. There are also many more proposals that would be made redundant IF the above was implemented. If you add them all together that is probably the most requested feature at the moment. Yes I think many of the ideas below can be merged. track my votes
