Make Gigabit Ethernet Standard on Notebooks

Broadband and Mobility, Laptops submitted by techsage 02/24/07

This should be a given at the least for Small Business and above notebooks. Another option would be to at least allow an option for this with an additional charge. This feature is very important for those wishing to do quicker backups via the network (since this is faster than even via USB 2.0). Apple and Sony, if not others as well have this as standard at this point.

NOTE: I know that this is standard on XPS systems, but that is not good enough. 7 Comments »

Create a 13.3" Ultraportable (Perfect) Latitude Notebook

Latitude products, Monitors and Displays submitted by mcfazeli 06/21/07

Latitude notebooks are arguably the best you make, packing a lot of processing power while being a discrete business machine that is rugged and has a tough chasis that can withstand lots of travel.

However, your current D420 (D430 soon?) and D630 offerings are either too small or too big in terms of screen size. A high resolution 13.3" is the ideal screen size for the mobile power user. A 1440 x 900 resolution on the 13.3" with LED backlighting would be PERFECT. It would be more efficient than the 14.1" counterpart, but have more desktop real-estate for actually doing great work on the go (office work, photo editing, programming, browsing, watching videos, etc.)

The other specs for this KILLER ultraportable should be near identical to the D630 (not the D420) with a 1.3 mpixel cam thrown into the top of the screen. Naturally, 802.11n, SSD (32 GB, 64 GB) or HHDD (80 GB, 100 GB), are musts, and the battery life must be as good as the D630 as well. No preloaded software + Vista OR Ubuntu would be nice additions.

I'd assume such a notebook, fully loaded would weigh in at around 3.8 lbs with 6 hours of battery life and has the potential to be the #1 seller amongst mobile business professionals who don't want to carry around the bigger 4.5 lbs D630.

The m1330 has potential, but lacks the rugged business oriented chassis. But with the technology already in place, it shouldn't be hard to actually build the above notebook.

This is my DREAM notebook, and the first manufacturer that comes as close to it as possible gets 3 automatic sales from me. I hope it's Dell. 4 Comments »

13.3" Latitude

Latitude products submitted by cfuselier 12/07/07

The Latitude line boasts the right set of features for many business users, but the lack of a 13.3" model is a serious gap. A 13.3", 4 - 4.5 pound model is ideal for on-the-go computing (trains, planes, etc). I believe Dell would find an eager market among mobile professionals waiting for such a machine.

The XPS M1330 is a nice notebook, but it lacks some key business-class features such as a docking station port. 3 Comments »

re-embrace the 13.3 screen!

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jeffme 05/06/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

I've always thought that the 13.3" screen was the ultimate laptop screen - it has a more eye-friendly dot pitch than the 12", isn't as ungainly or heavy as a 14.1" and it accommodates a wider keyboard quite easily.

Sony has it in the SZ series and Apple has it in the MacBook pro, but I'm a Dell guy - can you hook a brother up?
Check out the XPS M1330.

XPS 1330 Video Card

XPS products submitted by realskript 08/28/07

Give the option for a better video card for the XPS 1330 (i.e. nvidia geforce go 8600 GS instead of the 8400) ... the 8400 is kind of lacking.. a lil bit.. its not worth of the XPS brand. 20 Comments »

Offer a notebook that is all black in color.

Laptops submitted by jervis961 08/10/07

Not the shiny black that collects dust and fingerprints like crazy but a matte black. No paint either use colored plastic or a rubber coating so it won't rub off. Now add a blacklight to illuminate the white letters on the keyboard in the dark. Make it thin like the XPS M1330 with a LED backlit high resolution matte screen that is transreflective. 12 Comments »

M1330 2008!

XPS products submitted by q0987 Jan 12

Before I submit my idea it would be nice if someone could let me know what is the status of the slot-loading blu-ray drive which was promised for the M1330. I know that it has already been implemented into the new M1530 but what about the 13 inch model. Is it still in the works or has it been cancelled all together?
One other thing which concerns me are the SSDs. I mean they have already been released in the US for quite a while now yet in the UK/EU they are not even available as options.
If someone could get back to me on this it would be very helpful.

Now onto the main bit. I think that sometime during this year a major update to the m1330 should be carried out after the above issues have been addressed. I would like to recommend that the following components be updated:

Platform (from Santa Rosa to Montevina) MID-2008
Memory modules (to DDR3-800 w/ Montevina)
Processor (to Penryn - T9500) ALREADY RELEASED!
Graphics card (to Geforce 9 series - 9500M GS) OUT NOW!
Ethernet port (to Gigabit - c'mon its a XPS/business notebook)
Keyboard (backlit keys)
Solid State Drive (next gen w/ improved random write speeds)

Keep all other features/specs the same. Maybe use some magnesium or something (carbon fibre?) to further improve the quality of the product. Keep the LED backlit screen, blu-ray drive and SSDs. Don't cram in any more ports. Although you might want to design a new face for it similar to an alienware system!

The reason why I am stating this is because I think this notebook has the potential to be even better than it already is and these changes will help to make it truly the best. 3 Comments »

Can Dell upgrade the XPS m1330? I would like to know if everyone would like it!

XPS products submitted by rishitku 12/05/07

Can't Dell include a 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600. And then cram in a Blu-ray Disc Drive? That shall be better and not the GPU, but the lack of Blu-ray Disc Drive is the sole reason for the fact that I havent bought that hard-core machine. And also preferably a Core 2 Extreme X7800/X7900 on-board which would make it a marvellous-looking gaming machines. And this is a question: Is there a DVI-out on the Dell XPS m1330? I can try a Blu-ray Drive from the company Sinep-Anigav. But the problem is, I just don't trust them. So if Dell could cram in an 8600M, a Blu-ray Rewriter, a DVI -out(if there isn't one already), and finally a Core 2 Extreme X7900. If you could cram this in, I would love it! 9 Comments »

Love the new XPS M1330 but need more video power

XPS products submitted by md-cyqb 08/11/07

M1330 is really the way to go for a laptop, it's perferct in term of size and design. But it really need better video option. The video card is just not enough powerfull to meet today multimedia requirement. 256m video card is a must on XPS system as they are advertised as ultimate multimedia notebook.

256m M8600 gs or gt for m1330 that would be great.
Better screen resolution also and matte finish

And if not possible for the M1330 due to it size, why not offering a mid range XPS with 14" or 15" screen but still light and small like M1330 but with really better video option. 9 Comments »

DELL shouldn't charge $150 more for their (PRODUCT)RED model and only donate $50 to Africa

Dell submitted by jaylus12 Feb 16

*** UPDATE: ***
I didn't look close enough. The (PRODUCT)RED model includes Windows Vista Ultimate. The other model comes with Home Premium, and costs $150 to upgrade to Ultimate. So DELL is not actually charging more for the (PRODUCT)RED, they are just forcing a Windows upgrade on you...

-------------------------------------------------------------...
While all other companies charge the SAME price for their (PRODUCT)RED model, and donate a percentage of the proceeds to fight diseases in Africa, DELL charges $150 more -- the specs are identical mind you, and only donates $50.

So where is the other $100 going?

I was in the process of purchasing a new Dell M1330 laptop. Its sleek, light, fast and looks cool. Price was right too! As I was finalizing the deal I asked about the network card speed and was informed that it is a 10/100!!!!! WHAT!!!!! 4Cryingoutloud My old Inspiron 600m has a 100/1000 integrated network card. I am an IT administrator for one of the largest private dental practices in the state of Maryland. I use my own laptop at work and two other people got it. I on the other hand do alot of file transfering from my computer to others on the network. The network switches are 100/1000. It Does Make a Difference! Please upgrade the M1330 xps to 100/1000. SIM cards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by dwolfe56 Jan 17 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I think that all Dell laptops should have the option of shipping with an integrated SIM card reader, to allow for wireless broadband via GPRS, EDGE, and other GSM-ready data services. As well, the laptop could be used as a phone on both WiFi (VoIP) and GSM networks!

A number of laptops, including the XPS M1330 offers an integrated SIM card reader.

XPS m1335

Broadband and Mobility, Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by 3dvirus 07/15/07

After I had seen xps m1330 I hope dell to offer a special edition of it or m1335.
here are some ideas for the special edition:
1- replace lid plastic with metal such as titanium or low density metal.
2- second on lid display which is supported by nvidia 8 series.
3- blu-ray disc option.
4- integrated GPS.
5- e-SATA port
6-nanostructure battery
7-more than 64GB SSD option.
8- glossy and matte option for all lid colors.
9- luxury dell sleeve matching the notebook color
10- brighter LED display for outdoors
11- LED touchpad and backlit keyboard.
12- wireless charging technology.

for all these I know the price would be high but the price doesn't matter for the quality and getting luxury XPS notebook.
Thank u DELL 1 Comment »

XPS M1330 needs to be more price competitive with Apple Macbook

Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by hephaestus 07/04/07

I was looking over the recently introduced Dell XPS M1330 notebook, which was so clearly introduced to compete with Apple's Macbook, and I noticed there's a significant cost delta for what seems like little difference in offerings. If you compare the base model Macbook at 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, it's $1,174 and a comparably equipped Dell M1330 is $1,474. What's the deal? They don't look much different on paper. Is it Vista driving up the cost? I'd rather have OS X and my $300. Dell needs to be competitive in both product quality and price. 9 Comments »

XPS m1330 should have at least 3 USB ports

XPS products submitted by ordinary_user 12/02/07

the XPS m1330 should have AT LEAST 3 USB 2.0 ports; If it means removing the 1394a port, so be it.

most peripherals are USB based; e.g. If I attach an external HDD such as Seagate FreeAgent, it uses 2 ports by itself. I would also work with a mouse when connected on my desk....

A solution such as attaching a USB hub may not be feasible, as I do not know if the USB port can support the current drawn by multiple devices connected to it (apart from thumb drives etc). 4 Comments »

Offer 8400M GT on the XPS M1330 not the current GS Version!

XPS products submitted by tolkan 07/10/07

The Why offer the GS Which is much weaker than the GT Version. By offering the GT version the M1330 would be the best of performance and work. Considering that the 8400M GT is referred to as an under clocked 8600M GS. I really want to purchase the XPS M1330 so please Promote this. If there is currently another idea on this topic please do tell me so i can promote.

Thank You In Advanced...

XPS M1330 with Gigabit Ethernet

Broadband and Mobility, XPS products, Laptops submitted by macavity 07/11/07

I think it would be really good for the M1330 to have Gigabit networking for various reasons.

- if you want to move or back up your music or some videos across your home network you actually need that speed

- most other similar laptops have it. I thought it's standard now and hardwired into every board?

- gigabit home routers are on the market

- I don't want to buy a product and be behind the market right from day-1.

I bought an Inspiron 4 years ago with only 10Mbps 802.11b wifi and regretted it already 6 months into the purchase. 8 Comments »
