Gaming, XPS products submitted by dell_admin1 04/25/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Participate in the product design process! Dell is using IdeaStorm to decide between two new product design concepts. Vote on your favorite and weigh in to tell us what you think. When we unveiled the XPS 710 H2C at CES this year, we also uncovered it. There were a limited number of systems sprinkled throughout the show floor that had a clear side panel allowing easy viewing of the patent-pending two-stage H2C liquid cooling system. Since then, more than a few people have suggested we offer a “panel with a view” as an option for our XPS 710 line. Now we need you to vote for one of these two options and, most importantly, share some reasons why you like it. This “Now You Decide” vote campaign will be open from Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most votes will be featured in a future generation of XPS gaming desktops. Check out the latest Idea in Action on the new XPS 730. 108 Comments » Advertise Graphics RAM correctly Advertising and Marketing submitted by joffe100 04/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
When we say we want to buy a 512Mb graphics card we really do want a 512Mb graphics card - not 512Mb with 256mb physical memory with 256mb shared! This is really BAD and misleading advertising - you do not see other RAM memory being sold 1Gb (512Mb physical, 512Mb shared!) Add Expiration Dates to Software & Equipment Quotes Service and Support submitted by jbhagan 04/26/07
When I get a quote from my Dell rep it takes time before I can act on it. I have to put together a customer proposal and wait for a response. I never know if my quote is going to be good by the time I am ready to purchase because there is no displayed expiration date. Some quotes have been good for at least a month while the last one I received expires after 3 days (glad I asked!). If I get customer approval on a quote that proves to be expired, I get stuck with the change in price (sometimes good, sometimes bad). Don't describe Windows as an "Upgrade" Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by stevefraser 02/19/07 If Linux is offered as the Operating System (As has been suggested many times on this site), don't describe an offer to purchase Windows as an "Upgrade", for example "Upgrade to Microsoft Windows for only $$$", Some other phrase should be used instead, such as "Add in Microsoft Windows for $$$", as the word Upgrade may give the impression that Windows is superior to Linux, and there are several people who would disagree with that statement. 8 Comments » Linux, Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by icicle 02/20/07
Sometimes I check out the new prices of DELL-Notebooks. In the section OS Selection there is only one opportunity: Windows Vista. Internet Laptop Design Contest Advertising and Marketing, Laptops submitted by mucho 02/16/07 In order to get direct input from Dell customers, and tie more closely with consumer trends, why not sponsor a contest over the internet to design a line of laptops for home/consumer use? This would tie into Dell's philosophy of direct relationships. So the new laptop would not only be built specifically for you, but also DESIGNED directly by Dell customers. Of course, designs would have to be reviewed by Dell engineers to be sure that they are technically feasible and can be built within cost constraints, etc... Seems like this could be a very cool way to design a new generation of home/consumer laptops thru collaboration directly with Dell customers. 9 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by icantseeyou 02/21/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
From all of the press I have read it is plain that Vista is a big bomb. To buy the cheapest version I hear it isn't even as good as XP SP2. At the same time you need at least 4 Gig to run it. Offer other options... I don't care if it's Linux, XP, or a rat running on a wheel. Don't make us buy Vista. Affordability and Durability for Student Laptop Initiative Education, Laptops submitted by hdrews 02/21/07
If our district was to even consider a 1:1 student to computer ratio, we would need something much more affordable than what is out there now. Money could be saved by cutting storage space, video quality, and more. What our students generally need at their desks is the ability to surf the net and work in an "office" suite. Advanced projects can be done in our more robust labs. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by neogamerdrew 02/19/07 When maintaining or upgrading a Dell, it is a shear nightmare to try and replace parts. Most things are not the standard ATX parts you would expect. I suggest that Dell move away from proprietary parts, and open the door for people to use after market parts. 28 Comments » Advertising and Marketing, Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by john_saddington 02/19/07
I'd love to see a "Trade In" Program and/or initiative, where a customer who's been a long time customer could trade in an old system for a new one, or at least, a good sized discount. Product enhancement for Dell power adapter Laptop Power submitted by gbrugman 02/21/07
For your information: daily winding and unwinding the notebook connecting cord, will eventually cause the cable shield and isolation to tear down, just outside the housing. It happened to many Dell notebook cords at work, causing the power flow to stop or, even worse, to short-circuit. Use only the best and brightest LCDs for all laptops! No sub-par manufacturers need apply! Laptops submitted by astudios 02/17/07
From what I understand, today's Dell LCDs on laptops are made by Toshiba, LG, Samsung, etc.. why make it an anticipating "waiting game" for the customer to see which quality of LCD they get when their laptop comes in? The LCD display is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT part of any laptop. Dell.. please, use ONLY the best and brightest LCDs on all of your laptops. Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by jvginke1 04/21/07 Sound buttons on laptop work via software a hardware volume dial always works Comment » Use a volume knob, not buttons on keyboards Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas submitted by howardn 04/21/07 The normal format for volume controls is a knob or dial you turn. Buttons are not as efficient or "normal". Full size keyboard should have a knob, and some used to. Comment » Software submitted by ootleman 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS. Education, Sales Strategies submitted by cnmopt 02/18/07 **ALREADY OFFERED** Similar to Apple, Dell should offer students a special discount on Dell Products. The Apple market share is currently growing in the education sector and offering [college] students a discount would be useful to counter Apple's strategy. 42 Comments » Environment submitted by adrian 02/01/07 **REVIEWED**
Environmental concern and sustainability are today real issues with consumers and voters in many of Dell's markets. It looks as if a genuine commitment to reducing carbon and cleaning up their footprint will become a more important factor for companies wanting to strengthen consumer loyalty in the coming years. Option to choose a Touch Screen version of all Dell laptops Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by deusx 04/21/07
I think that Dell should give us an option to make any of their laptops tablet PC's for a resonable price. Why get a separate tablet PC when you could use your laptop as one when you needed it? track my votes
