UPDATE sound drivers Windows VISTA for Inspirion 9100 PLEASE

Dell Web Site, Inspiron products submitted by mikecintel 11/06/07

Can you please update the DRIVERS for my laptop Dell Inspiron 9100 and my sound is not working. There is sound BUT when I connect to the Internet it pops this message "Download and install the driver for Sigmatel C-Major Audio This problem was caused by Sigma Tel C-Major Audio, which was created by Dell Inc, A solution is available that will solve this problem" I am using a application and it has no sound when I preview but when I use it on another computer that is sound and Dell has to UPDATE their drivers for my laptop. The laptop can run Windows VISTA and there is no problems except for the sound problem that I am having. If you can update other software packages like the Intel Chipset or the Notebook system software I appreciate it. I download the sound driver from Dell's website and it says "Audio: SIGMATEL STAC 9750 AC97, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.5.10.0.3952, A15". The release date is 1/22/2007 and I installed that sound driver and it does not work with an application that I am using. PLEASE FIX this.

Dell drivers and firmware automatic configuration management

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support submitted by dsdreamer 04/20/07

Make a Dell Drivers and Firmware Update service similar to Windows Update. The Dell Support 3.2 applet is not very useful for finding out which drivers are out of date, or if a BIOS update is needed.

For example, there are a number of urgent fixes for my computer that I wasn't informed about. Only the most alert and tech-savy users of computers are going to find out about things like urgent BIOS and urgent DVD-ROM drive firmware updates.

You could go further and have tested, and supported configurations of hardware and drivers that are known to work well together. Getting the latest drivers for everything on your machine can be a time waster, but I would at least like to be informed straight away about the urgent issues (of which there seem to have been a plethora of late).

I short, I'd like Dell to remotely control my machine's configuration of drivers and firmware so that I don't have to waste my time on it. I would just like to give permission for each install operation, like on Windows update.

XPS drivers

Gaming, Service and Support submitted by forestfire_88 04/21/07

I have two Insp XPS laptops, both Gen1 and Gen2 models. When I purchased these laptops, I was expecting to use it for gaming as well as other tasks. But a few months after the purchase of Gen2, there are no longer any new version drivers on the Dell support web site. It's 2007 now, and the video card driver posted on dell support site was released in 2005. The worst part is that nvidia.com and ati.com drivers does not work with the Dell systems. I pay over $3000 per laptop, I think the least Dell can do is provide updated version drivers, especially for the video card driver for the XPS line product. So, PLEASE UPDATE THE DRIVERS!!!!!!!!!! 2 Comments »

Update Vista Video Drivers More Often

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell Web Site submitted by rprouse 04/20/07

Dell video driver releases always lag well behind the release of drivers by the card manufacturers. Please try to update more often, especially with Vista drivers which are fairly buggy and unstable at the moment.

The video drivers for the NVIDIA GeoForce Go 7950 GTX on 32 bit Vista are crashing repeatedly. The drivers that you offer on the website are v.98.09, but NVIDIA is currently at v.101.41.

Please update your video drivers for Vista when NVIDIA releases new ones. My brand new XPS M1710 laptop crashes or freezes up daily and it is almost always the video drivers. This is not the experience I expected with a new laptop. 2 Comments »

DRIVERS

Dell Web Site, Laptops submitted by dgkpcon1 11/26/07

I have an E1705 with geforce go 7900gs and no up to date drivers for it.Just because laptops have reached eol with dell does not mean that we just throw them in the garbage.Dell needs to step up to the plate and start updating drivers for all the laptops even the eol laptops. When we buy a product a laptop we do not expect it to completely useless in 2 months. So far dell has updated drivers for the 1710 and 1730,the 1705 owners need to start pressuring dell for updates. 4 Comments »

Automatic Dell driver & software update (maybe even bios?)

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell Web Site submitted by prijswij 02/21/07

Like windows and Adobe e.t.c. it would be nice to have dell automaticly update drivers and software instead of me surfing to the dell site to find new updates. 11 Comments »

update of drivers

Dell Web Site submitted by edstfm 02/20/07

It would be nice if I could go on line and find out specifically what drivers I need and why I need them. As far as I can tell, for now: I have to guess what drivers, etc I should be updating. P.S. I am running Vista Ultimate.
Can't you fix this online approach so that any answer I get is computer model specific? Comment »

Update drivers more often.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support submitted by laxmanb 12/31/07

Dell hasn't updated drivers for the ATi Mobility Radeon in my notebook for 7 months. Since ATi, Nvidia, and most other manufacturers release new drivers on a regular basis to OEMs (once every month), And the early Vista drivers are buggy (my display driver stops working at times after hibernating), Couldn't you just post them onto your Drivers and Downloads page on a regular basis? 5 Comments »

Dell Updates

Servers and Storage submitted by tonyadduci 12/03/07

Hello,
Please offer the ability to type in a service tag and be emailed a list of all possible driver and firmware updates for the server in question.

The administrator would also be alerted of hard drive firmware updates and if the standard .iso image that is released semi-annually will bring you current enough.

Thanks! Comment »

Keep drivers UP TO DATE

Dell Web Site submitted by bl4derunner 02/21/07

Keep drivers updated!!

It's a drag to have to check what chipset is used, and then find the manufacturer to get the latest drivers to solve some problems, or to get some performance improvement. 3 Comments »

This website is brilliant!

IdeaStorm submitted by fleahh 04/22/07

Dell rocks you!

Bringing ideas from the users to reality. Microsoft ofc doesnt like it because the users dont like Vista.

Anyway, my post is about updating drivers. I have a 2.5 year old Dell Inspiron and the drivers from ATi have been updated very often for its graphics card, however drivers from Dell havent been updated for a very long time. VERY LONG TIME.
When i try to contact LIVE SUPPORT they wont let me talk to them because i didnt purchase my computer in the US. What a useless option to have, since they are the only ones that can update the driver, no matter where you buy your computer, you should be able to contact THE tech support.
Anyway, i finally get an email from Dell support and what do they tell me? They say that Dell drivers are always up2date!! A LIE! I pointed them out that ATi has updated their drivers several times and Dell drivers remain the same release! What does the Dell support then tell me? They said, go to www.ati.com and update your drivers there. *LAUGHING OUT LOUD*
I tried that, ages ago, and i tried it over and over, but ATi wotn let you update your drivers from that page and tells you to contact your manufacturer.

So everything goes in circles.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR DRIVERS UP TO DATE. 5 Comments »

Drivers Update

Dell Web Site submitted by sanjeev 02/17/07

I think it would be nice, if dell could provide the updated driver automatically. Like i have inpiron/e1505 and i went from Windows Media Center to Windows Vista Business. For couple of weeks i wasn't able to use my wireless because for some reasons my driver was not supported, but later i found the driver. So, it would be nice if dell could provide automatic driver download so that user don't have to spend much time where to go and download the drivers. 2 Comments »

More Frequent Driver Updates

Service and Support submitted by xiphi 08/11/07

Dell seems to be slow at releasing drivers. ATI has released many updates to their video drivers since May, while Dell has yet to release anything since then. Dell's driver support should be synchronized with ATI, NVidia, Intel, etc...

Dell has yet to also release fixes to their current drivers. For instance, on the Inspiron E1505 with Windows Vista, the Sigmatel audio driver lags at the beginning and end of every song. The only workaround is to disable the audio enhancements. This should not be acceptable.

Dell please release fixes/updates more frequently. Don't leave your customers hanging with no fix in sight. Comment »

Smaller Power Bricks

Laptops submitted by drew08867 06/28/07

I know they've gotten smaller with the new line of inspirons, but lenovo's are still something to be rivaled. What is the point of having a thin/light laptop and a heavy power brick you have to carry around with it? 4 Comments »

MagSafe - Magnetic powercord plug

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by thorin_2 02/21/07

Awesome feature that all my Mac user friends have on their MacBook Pros.

From WIkipedia.com: The MagSafe connector is a new power connector introduced in conjunction with the MacBook Pro at the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco on January 10, 2006. The MagSafe connector is held in place magnetically. As a result, if it is tugged on—for instance, by someone tripping over the cord—it comes out of the socket safely, without damaging it or the computer or pulling the computer off its table or desk.

I checked, and Apple doesn't have a patent on it...yet. They have a patent pending status however there are plenty of examples of prior art. See http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20060112/1555226.shtml for example. 12 Comments »

Magnetic power plug to laptop

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by labtroll 03/13/07

Apple uses it.
My old Water boiler uses it (even before apple had it).
Be the first OEM PC Laptop to use this innovation.

Does away with risk of breaking plug on motherboard. Won't drag you laptop to floor if you trip over wire. 4 Comments »

Product enhancement for Dell power adapter

Laptop Power submitted by gbrugman 02/21/07

For your information: daily winding and unwinding the notebook connecting cord, will eventually cause the cable shield and isolation to tear down, just outside the housing. It happened to many Dell notebook cords at work, causing the power flow to stop or, even worse, to short-circuit.

The cord at the other end of the AC wall mount doesn't have this problem because this cord already points at the right angle. So as to avoid said problem in the future, both cords should leave the housing in the proper winding-angle: problem solved.

I hope to have been of help, because I think it's a shame that a minor cord problem makes it this risky to work with an otherwise good product. It seems easy enough to remedy. :-) 39 Comments »

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.

XPS Notebook

submitted by fezdell 12/02/07

For the new XPS M1530, a LED screen should be available, preferably standard as with the MacBook Pro. The screen resolution should also be available in resolutions higher than 1280 x 800 to take full advantage of the blu-ray disc drive. 1 Comment »
