Beta Tester

Desktops and Laptops submitted by derricktwo Jun 24

I would personally be interested in participating in this, if it’s open to the public. I’ve been working with Dell’s for over 8 years now, and have disassembled and reassembled over a dozen laptops and more than double that amount of desktops. All back to working condition. Some for repair, and (because I am a geek and former E.E. major.) some for fun. (Not to kiss up) but Dell’s are my favorite computers and the one I recommend 98% of the time. I am asked a lot in this line of work. (assistant I.T. Manager) I would love to assist in the creation of Dell’s next great thing. 10 Comments »

Latitude X2 (fanless ultraportable laptop)

Latitude products submitted by nojooim May 14

Revive the Latitude X series with latitude X2 laptop. It's a shame that Dell has no fanless ultraportable laptops available anymore, since X1 is no longer available.

The old X1 design with 12" inch widescreen and 1.1ghz 5 Watt TDP Pentium M ULV was quite perfect, as reviewers and many users noticed. It was rugged with magnesium alloy body and spill protected keyboard, also battery life was excellent.

It should be brought back to life with Intel Atom CPU (2 to 4 Watts TDP) or Core 2 Solo ULV (5.5 Watts TDP) CPU and SSD for completely silent operation, that would not bother with noise, even at middle of the night.

With fanless cooling and SSD it would have no moving parts at all, so it could be sealed to prevent dust and moisture entering the machine, which should improve reliability. With 9 cell battery and LED-backlit screen it should have quite amazing battery life.

It would not be ultraportable, but ultra-ULTRA-portable :) 3 Comments »

Light-Up Dell Logo

Laptops submitted by brokencrystal Jun 29

Make use of the LCD back-light on Dell notebooks by allowing some of the light to escape out of the back (cover) through the Dell logo causing it to light up bright white. You could make it light up any color to match the notebooks color scheme by using filters (different color plastic) while designing the covers. For example: You purchase a red notebook, you have the option of a white, red, blue color light on your Dell logo. You could also save $15.00 by selecting no light in the logo. While this is mostly for cosmetic, advertisement, and branding purposes, the light on the back could indicate that the notebook is turned on, off, or in power save mode from the back of the unit. 6 Comments »

More Choice of Graphic cards on (Home & Home Office) Laptops and Desktops.

Desktops, Gaming, Inspiron products submitted by fahdriyami Feb 3

Sometimes when looking for a reasonablly priced notebook or desktop i would go for the Inspiron range, and im a gamer, when customizing my pc i just wonder why is there only one or two choices of graphic cards?!, most of them support the same bus type, so why not offer them?! eg, the best Inspiron notebook you offer only comes with a GeForce 8600M GT, can you just offer an 8700M with it at least? i know you did it for a reason and its probably a good one but im just curious...thinking of it, an Inspiron with an 8800M sounds ok :D 3 Comments »

One account on the Dell site.

Dell Community, Dell Web Site submitted by wiiboy12 11/22/07 **IN PROGRESS**

I have noticed that on the Dell site, I have 3 accounts (forum, ideastorm, and main site). I think maybe Dell should make it so that one can have one account for all of the Dell website. The only problem is the people who already have accounts. I haven't had much time to think on this, so feedback would be appreciated. 20 Comments »

Posting Should Be Anonymous and "Idea of The day"

Dell Community, IdeaStorm submitted by googideas 02/17/07

To avoid competitive issues, such as not voting on a good idea because it boosts another's ranking, we, the participants should not be able to see the identities of the others. Only you, Dell, should know this. That way each of us votes based on the idea itself, without being influenced by potentially competitive issues.

Trying to design a controlled survey when delaing with humans is no small task!

I think people are nejoying the experience though. Thanks for it.

Last point: if a Dell employee feels an idea has merit, why not have an Idea of The day feature. The employee nominates it, and if it wins the most votes by Dell employees only, it gains a 'featured' status (constantly at the top and available for proper consideration). 3 Comments »

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.

Give a choice of either Ati or Nvidia gpu's

Gaming, Desktops and Laptops submitted by theideasman Mar 23

Everyone is a fanboy to one particular brand and prefers their products, so why do some desktops and a lot of laptops only have one option. There should be at least one Ati card and one Nvidia card available for each machine so people dont have to go for the brand they dont want. Its only fair... 6 Comments »

E Series Notebooks - Dell logo

Latitude products submitted by dionne May 29

I have seen the new Latitude E Series and am very disappointed that the Dell logo has changed. This takes away the Dell identity and makes it like any other notebook. Please please reconsider and bring back the round Dell logo that we all love!!!!!! 1 Comment »

Latitude XT Specs

Latitude products, Sales Strategies submitted by ccpljat May 31

Why is is that with the Latitude XT, which is the only Dell computer that I have seen that is a touch screen tablet, you can't get any higher than a 1.33 GHz 533 Mhz processor? Shouldn't this laptop be allowed to be customized with the same options as the other laptops? I would think about getting a convertible laptop like that, but I don't think it would run what I need it to run. Please consider adding more powerful processors to it.

Also, you can't go above 3.0 gig of memory. There should be an option for more than that.

A bigger hard drive would be nice too.

How about dedicated graphics option? Comment »

Latitude XT Battery Slice improvement

Latitude products submitted by koshea331 Jun 10

We are in the process of installing new Latitude XT tablet computers, so far we are impressed with the units. The one main suggestion I would make is that the Battery Slice should allow you to pass through connect to the base. It seems silly that they only way you can run the XT in the base and recharge the slice is sepperatly. I seems that it would just need a pass through connector that would allow for both the XT use in the base and to recharge both the main and the slice batteries.

Thanks,

Optiplex Base Business Profile

OptiPlex products submitted by polk Jun 4

Our organization is just short of using a thin client type device. With the growing need to be secure, we do not need some of the standard features Dell equips on their computers.

We are a business and we do not need:
CD or DVD (Optical) drives. We install across the network or utilize a single portable drive for software applications installation. This prevents a source of entry for viruses etc. Large hard drives: We maintain our files of information on a server. We do not want our user base to keep things on their computer because they do not back them up. In most cases a 40 GB hard drive is more than enough for our user base. Drives keep increasing in size. We do not need this space.
External speakers. We only need internal speakers.

Provide a physical means to secure the USB ports. This is another security exposure. There should also be a means to lock in the USB connection for the keyboard and mouse so that they can not be removed to use the USB drive for something else.

We do not have the software to serve up the software applications we have in place. In addition, thin clients are about as expensive as a desktop computer.

I know that we can configure a system to meet our needs, but I still think Dell should consider my recommendations for a business baseline computer. Processors, RAM, etc. are important factors to us. 2 Comments »

Integrated WebCams on all UltraSharp Monitors

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays submitted by junior May 17

Dell should integrate webcams on the Ultra-Sharp monitors, sure the Ultra-Sharp monitors are used mostly for Business use but are desirable for gamers. Everybody likes these monitors because they can Tilt, Swivel and Pivot. If Dell cannot integrate a webcam into these Ultra-Sharp monitors, at least get the SP2008WFP and SP2208WFP 20" and 22" monitors to Tilt, Swivel, and Pivot. 6 Comments »

Peace and quiet

OptiPlex products submitted by falbert May 22

Forget about performance for a second or two and give "Silence" a chance. I was very sad with the latest Dell products we received. The Optiplex 755 and some servers were just too loud. Silence is golden and does make a more pleseant computing experience. 2 Comments »
