Give discount for the delays

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by saleemohaib 08/29/07

These days there are delays with some of Dell products. I think as good gesture Dell should offer extra discounts to customers who order products with extended delivery time.

Port Locations....

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 08/30/07

Here are some ports that MUST be in the back of a Notebook.

AND NOT ON THE SIDE.

1. Power input jack.
2. 2 USB ports - at least. One for mouse / wireless mouse dongle. One for USB hub, etc.
3. HDMI/DVI/VGA - because the cables are thick.
4. Ethernet

Let's keep the desktop clean and not have cables coming out the sides of the notebook which takes up valuable space. Not to mention being an eye sore.

Thank you. 11 Comments »

Show effects on weight & battery life when building a laptop

As you add or remove components it would be nice to see how it is affecting the weight and battery life of the laptop. 7 Comments »

Allow customers to choose wider cases as well as the slim ones

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by robgreig 09/03/07

The new Inspiron 530s is very sleek, and great for some people. But please could you make an option available to have a wider case if you wish to! I personally prefer the wider cases as they make it easier to upgrade systems. I could only get the spec/price I wanted with a narrow case, which is a shame, because if I could have chosen to have a wider case I would have purchased the system. Comment »

Quad Core for Inspiron Desktops Now

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Inspiron products submitted by bg02446 09/04/07

I'd like to see quad core processors offered on Inspiron desktops ASAP. Quad core processors aren't terribly expensive and would be of real benefit to those of us (possibly excessive) multi-taskers. 11 Comments »

Update Drivers for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjamin89 09/22/07

Example: nVidia has released multiple new drivers continuing to tweak settings and making them more compatible with Vista and games. Dell has not updated its drivers for nVidia products since June, and one only can install Dell drivers for Dell laptops.

Update the drivers for your products regularly or allow the manufacturer of the product's drivers to install. 9 Comments »

HDMI, HDMI, by God almighty, HDMI

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 09/25/07

HP has had it on their notebooks for 1 year now. Come on Dell! What's it going to take to put in an HDMI port? Most of the new LCD TV's today input HDMI.

And I'm surprised that the new XPS 1730 has no HDMI port. DVI is so yesterday and is not forward thinking at all.

Your next generation Montevina based models MUST have HDMI.

And yes, this is a dupe. A dupe of my own post even. But I want to buy a Dell. But without HDMI, it makes it difficult. 30 Comments »

[Dell QuickSet] - Allow MediaDirect button to start any application

Software submitted by nachotronics 10/09/07

We should be able to choose wich application is started when we press that button. I personally find MediaDirect useless, and prefer the button to launch firefox, winamp or anything other than that. Well, it can be done by some registry hacking but could be easier if Dell's QuickSet let me choose. Simple as that. Comment »

Show the Vista performance rating during system configuration.

Dell Web Site submitted by jervis961 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

People may not realize that Vista gives your computer a performance rating based on several factors (processor, RAM, hard drive and video card).
Dell should show the performance rating on the side as you build your computer and update it as you go along changing the configuation. This should give people a guage as to if an upgrade will really improve your overall performance and also what kinds of games and programs your new computer will be capable of.

Improve the Dell Outlet site.

Dell Web Site submitted by jervis961 09/10/07

Currently the Dell Outlet site is lacking in several areas: Price, Information and accessability to name a few.

Price: It isn't much cheaper buying from the Outlet site and is sometimes more expensive than buying a brand new system.

Information: Scratch and Dent doesn't explain what damage is done to the notebook, perhaps a short description, a picture would be ideal. The price is given but there is no comparison as to the amount of savings being offered unless you configure a new system on your own. Many competitors show retail and outlet prices along with the percentage saved to help the customer make a more informed decision.

Accessability: There is no way to get to the outlet from the Government Employee Purchase section. There are also alot of hoops to jump through before getting to see what is available. Why do I have to pick a certain model to get to the listing? Why are the systems separated in the search engine. I should be able to look at all notebooks at the same time not have to look at Inspiron and XPS or Lattitude. Make them all available at once. 6 Comments »

Dell Outlet - Email Alerts for equipment availability

Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by diytuner 09/25/07

For those business users and consumers that are interested in purchasing refurbished equipment, it would be nice if we could sign up for an email notification that would alert us as new refurbished and scratch & dent equipment becomes available. 8 Comments »

6 major issues to be fixed by Dell

Dell, Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by jervis961 02/17/07

Dell became a top company by providing choice and customer service to a customer that wasn't available at the time but has since fallen behind the pack in these areas. Needing a translator when calling customer support is unnacceptable and other companies are rapidly passing Dell in technology advancements. While this site is a good start, many things need to be changed for Dell to become the market leader again.

1. Customer support needs to be in well spoken English and with employees who are allowed to do more than just read from a script. If they are speaking with a computer savvy customer the rep should be allowed to deviate from the script as long as they don't go outside the relm of normal policy.

2. Better options: Other companies offer high end components in small computers but Dell only supplies intel video processors in its 14" laptop. Dell needs to allow customers to get the size computer they need but with options from low cost through the high end so they can get a computer that is "Purely you".

3. Less forced options: I hate that I am paying for and XPS with internet security when I don't need it because I already have a subsciption that will transfer over or AOL is installed when I know I don't need it. They need to add an option of none of the above to all the added software sections.

4. Better pricing: Why is it over $200 to upgrade from 1 GB of 533 MHZ ram to 2 GB of 677 MHZ RAM? I can go to Crucial.com and get the 2GB 677MHZ kit for under $200. Upgrading with Dell after you own is even worse at over $300 this is crazy.

5. Custom Dell website: Customers want to feel special why not make a MYDELL website that when you log in you get a site designed the way you want it. If you aren't interested in the small business site it gets removed, you don't like to go thru the accessories sections when customizing a system so you don't see that section. Click on customer support and a list of your computer pops up asking which one you need help with and only shows the options for that system.

6. Customer loyalty rewards: I have bought 6 Dell systems over the last few years, why can't I get better customer service or pricing due to my loyalty to the company? 72 Comments »

ONE SHOPPING CART PLEASE (dell.com)

Dell Web Site submitted by ootleman 02/16/07

Why split it up into 4 different shopping carts (home, small business, etc)? I still don't know how it works. 1/2 my products go into one cart, 1/2 my orders go into the other, possibly depending on where I was browsing from.

And, then, seems like the shopping carts expire after a few hours. After all that time spent configuring, why not keep it around longer.

Matter of fact, why not split the site up at all? If I click on desktops - show me all desktops. Do I, as a small company, need differ computers then a medium business? Please show me everything and let me figure out what works best.

Visible Link to IdeaStorm on main Dell site

Advertising and Marketing, Dell Web Site, IdeaStorm submitted by ipaw 07/01/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

IdeaStorm should have a visible link and explanation on the main Dell site as well as a Desktop shortcut on all new installations.

I've been a Dell customer since my XPS-500 back in the mid 90's and I only just found out about IdeaStorm through a PodCast.

If people know they can have a voice and make a difference, they'll use it.

Thanks

This idea has been partially implemented, as our new home page now has a prominent link to "Dell Community" - within that page are links to IdeaStorm and our other community properties, including Dell Community Forums, Direct2Dell, StudioDell, etc. Thanks for the idea!!!

Offer 3 GB of memory as an option on ALL PCs!

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by winoffice 10/13/07

On 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, the PC can address only 3 GB of memory. Therefore, what I would want Dell to do is to offer 3 GB of memory as an option (and CLEARLY specify whether the OS is 32-bit or 64-bit, and always let him get a 32-bit version for compatibility purposes). Another reason for my request for Dell to offer 3 GB is that the user might need more than 2 GB, but does not need 4 GB, regardless of what OS he might be running.

Fortunately, I can now get 3 GB as an option on the Dell XPS M1710. GREAT MOVE! Unfortunately, I cannot get 3 GB on any other system that I have been browsing today. Please offer 3 GB as an option for memory on all PCs, regardless of what operating system(s) are preinstalled. 7 Comments »
