Let us rate Ideas on a scale of 1-10 instead of just up/down. IdeaStorm submitted by jmxz Apr 24
Most of the Ideas on IdeaStorm are good. Few are great. So very often I find myself reading an idea and thinking "yeah, that's kinda good and it'd be nice if Dell did this; but I sure hope it wouldn't distract them from the even better ideas". Single SKU, single price for components across all Dell systems. Sales Strategies submitted by vitalsupport Apr 23
Make prices for individual components that are the same between systems across your various lines the same. For example the 2-button optical mouse costs $14 when purchased with an Optiplex system but only $9 with a Vostro or Dimension. There are others like a DVD-ROM/CDRW on a server costs $99 but the same device on an Optiplex costs $27. Processors have even more widely varying prices. Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has. Broadband and Mobility, Dell Web Site, Linux, Laptops submitted by tonyb2006 08/29/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500". Dell, please make these connectors STANDARD on all upcoming XPS Desktops and Notebooks: Highlight newly available options Dell Web Site submitted by shrndegruv Apr 18
In the last week the XPS M1530 has had 2 new features available: Desktops and Laptops submitted by retro Apr 21 Give us all full control of our hardware, I hate entering a bios and seeing only the most basic settings and not much of them, I may get some faster ram and want to set the cas or i may want to adjust my hard drive settings. 10 Comments » Do not scale back build-to-order systems Desktops and Laptops submitted by masterr Apr 5 **ALREADY OFFERED**
Today in the news I read that Dell "is moving away from its build-to-order model to reduce costs. Dell is limiting the degree to which buyers can dictate specifications while expanding its line of prepackaged models". Please do not do this. The options build-to-order system is what sets Dell above some of the competition. By scaling this back and removing customization choices you remove some of the appeal of buying a Dell machine online. Please do not scale this back. Linux, XPS products submitted by daniel117 Mar 12 After hearing a couple magazines and people say Vista has glitches, I think Dell's best computer ever (and best counterpart of Apple's Macs) this computer company should start looking into Linux more, especially Ubuntu. Oh sure, Dell didn't get enough people into Ubuntu, but that can be easily fixed by putting Linux into Dell One. Dell is missing out on more sales from Ubuntu fans and all you geeks out there. Not much of them, but popularity would spread and soon Vista is in the dust (not that I hate Vista, but I like Ubuntu better). 11 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by chuckles67 02/27/07 eSATA port enables fast external disk access (at bus speed). This would be an optimal way to edit video using a Dell laptop or desktop with an external hard drive. 7 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by dvt 02/17/07 E-SATA provides a way to add fast external storage with much better performance than USB or Firewire. Adding an E-SATA port would greatly improve the expandabiliy of Dell's notebook computers. 30 Comments » Don't make me boot Windows just to play a DVD. Operating Systems submitted by jmxz 03/14/07
Lenovo and Sony and Toshiba computers don't make me slowly boot up windows just to play a DVD or listen to music: Setting to Disable Media Direct in BIOS XPS products submitted by steve.bogdanski 09/28/07
Allow users to change/disable the functionality of the Media Direct button on Dell XPS systems. Not only do many busness environments not have any use for this feature. It has now become common place to hear the horror stories of those who have reformatted their harddrives and then have that button accidentally pushed while the computer is off. This immediately thrashes the partition table making the complete system useless until it is rebuilt from scratch. Make Dell Media Direct Optional Sales Strategies, Software, Laptops submitted by stevelenihan Feb 28 This should be optional as most people don't want this software and it means your laptop comes with a separate partition on the hard drive for Media Direct that is very awkward to uninstall and just wastes space 3 Comments » Monitors and Displays, Laptop Power submitted by yardsale Jan 16 I dont know why dell hasnt done this yet. switch all monitors on desktops and notebooks to LED. did you know that you can run an LED screen at full brightniess and it uses less power than a LCD monitor at the lowest brighting level?!? its cheaper, its energy efficent, and it needs to be done! promote this, if you demote i wanna know why! 46 Comments » Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself. Give XPS Notebooks Gigabit Ethernet XPS products submitted by croftki Feb 17 I understand that Dell market research says home users in general are not interested in gigabit ethernet for home networks. Those who pay for the premium design in the XPS line, however, are more likely to want gigabit ethernet. I would rather buy something more exciting than a business class notebook, but I want to build on my home technology with each purchase I make. XPS Notebooks unfortunately do not help me do this. It seems my only option is to buy a Latitude. 28 Comments » Pre-Installed OpenOffice | alternative to MS Works & MS Office Software, Desktops and Laptops submitted by dhart 02/17/07
Avoid Glare On Screens and Notebook Frames Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by bobetsue 02/20/07
