Notebook integrated webcam & option for higher end graphics card

I find 12.1" too small & 17" too big for me.
Would love to see these on the 14.1" & 15.4" Inspiron lines
1.) Integrated webcam
2.) Option for higher ends dedicated graphics card. (Dell must show how much is dedicated & shared. Say 256MB = 128 dedicated + 128 shared.)
3.) Option for a dedicated graphics card on 14.1"
Also, how about adding DVI port on all inspirons.
On the XPS M1530 you can get an integrated webcam and a high end graphics card.

Laptop Port Rethinking
Inspiron products submitted by ari_g

I have been using an Inspiron 700m for almost two years now, and I wish that some of the ports were either different, or arranged differently. Most notably, the headphone port; it is in the very front of the laptop when you are using it, which makes it very awkward to have headphones plugged in while resting the laptop on your lap.
After that, and I think that this is true for almost all laptops, dropping the standard VGA video output in favor of either a DVI or some sort of mini DVI output, much like the Apple laptops. I say this because it is not difficult or expensive to have a dongle/adapter to go from the DVI standard to VGA, S-Video or Composite video. Add to that the fact that a mini-DVI port would take up less room than a standard VGA output.
To be fair, these are minor things, and I have been quite happy with my little Inspiron!

Drive adoption of up-to-date hardware (no more legacy ports!)

There's an analog VGA port on my brand new Latitude. A serial port. A 56K modem. This is on a laptop purchased in 2006!
Where's my Firewire, my digital DVI, my optical audio-out jack? My Mom's iBook seems more advanced than my $3000 Latitude.
I'd like to see Dell building ALL of its desktop and notebook machines, even the cheapest, with up-to-date hardware interfaces.
Beyond that, take the lead! Standardize smart-card readers and fingerprint readers on both consumer and business machines. Maybe microphones and webcams on consumer models. Drive adoption of these technologies and see where it takes you. Show some vision.
I know that businesses want backwards compatibility, and that's what converters are for. Need a serial port? Order a $5 USB-serial converter. Got an old monitor? $2 DVI-to-VGA thingy.
Come on, Dell, use your market position and drive adoption of up-to-date hardware standards!

DUAL DVI ON LAPTOP & PORT REPLICATOR
Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jsun9
02/24/07
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR A VGA PORT ON LAPTOPS AND PORT REPLICATORS.
The laptop/replicator should come with two (2) DVI ports and the ability to add an adapter for VGA (DVI to VGA).
The dual DVI should allow for dual monitors and larger 30" monitors.

DVI (incl. DVI-D) for _everything_ please

Too bad our purchasing missed to order the DVI Riser Card with our Optiplex. The guy who ordered extra picked Ultrasharp Displays with DVI input, which we have to use via the analog connection. No warning, no nothing during the order process. Why even sell computers without DVI ? Analog connections might have been alright for everything up to 1024 * 768 resolutions but everything above that really benefits a lot from dvi. So please. Make DVI standard and not optional. Would love to see Notebooks with Dvi connector too.

Docking station with 2 DVI outs

I would like to see docking station that have 2 DVI outs instead of one DVI & one analog (VGA). I am running dual monitors on my docking station now and the crisp clean look of the digital connection is far superior to my analog connection. It sure would be nice to have the exact same look and feel on my dual monitors.

Better connectivity on monitors!
Dell, Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas submitted by maverick4ever

Something that is sadly lacking in monitors is good connectivity. Especially on large monitors, let's say 22 inches and up, this is a real shame.
Some people may already have a PC that has a TV tuner and are planning on getting a big screen. The question is, why buy a monitor when you get much better connectivity with a TV. On the other hand, if you have a TV tuner, you could still view and record TV on the monitor and get the many advantages in picture quality. Unfortunately this leaves you without all the other functions that a conventional TV would offer. Because of the lack of inputs, you can't connect multiple A/V devices to the monitor simultaneously, some not at all. For instance you might own an Xbox360 Elite or a PS3 and you want to hook it up with HDMI. I haven't seen a single decent monitor on the market that offers HDMI. You also might have a plethora of A/V equipment; an old VCR, a DVD player, a few game consoles, a camcorder, a cable or satellite box, ect...
You really would need many connectors in your monitor to make them all work at the same time. If you could have a monitor with Component, Composite, HDMI, S-Video, Optical and/or Coaxial S/PDIF Digital Sound connectors and maybe even SCART for the Europeans, you'd be all set, so long as you have a functioning TV Tuner in your PC. Meanwhile you would get superior picture quality over an HDTV and you would save a bit of money too. Throw in a remote and it's all you would ever need.
Now, of course many would say that you should just get a TV rather than a monitor, if you had this demanding needs. But like I stated, you would lose the superior picture quality. And it likely would cost you more.
So please Dell, take the initiative in this matter and fill the space in the market of versatile PC monitors.

HDTV ready computer

A small desktop machine (ala mac mini) designed to be used with an HDTV set. It should possibly include: - Vista with media center - A simple remote - Ability to share content over wireless with other computers - Custom laptop style wireless keyboard (thin, with scissor keys, and a touch pad) - Wii style pointing device - Ports for easy connection to HDTV (HDMI, DVI, composit) - Low noise, uses low RPM fans, and otherwise tries to save energy and heat. Not necesarily the fastest processors, but ones tuned for this use. - Video in, for DVR use - Easy set up as network file server - Expand storage with external drives with the same footprint as this computer

New Inspiron Models
Dell, Inspiron products, XPS products submitted by tri

Hey Dell
The new Inspirons 1720s are really good with Display Choice, but... - The Design of the Inspiron 9400 and the XPS M1710 have been as good - ergonomic by the old models were good and you dont mustnt make every Notebook like the new M1330 - Where is the full sized Enter-Button and the HDMI Port??? - in the old models the battery was on the front now there arent any Interfaces on the Back :-( - the old models had 6 USB - the new only 5 - The Inspirons still dont have LED Displays - but you guys got the technology for that. Look at the M1330!!! The 2 MP Cam is great:-) - The Number Pad is ok, but not everybody needs it - make it optional - the new 1720s got space for 2 HDDs. This takes a lot of place and Im sure, people who need over250GB in their Notebook will take an external HDD!! - The XPS M1710 is the perfect notebook - just add Santa Rosa Chipset, Prozzessor and n-WLAN. And of course, when they are out: nvidia 8800M graphics cards (MXM Models!!) Until then, put 8700M GT (MXM) optional in it. and the webcam and LED Display and HDMI - Ill buy it then!!!
Please think again over some new Designs

DVI or HDMI out on all laptops models?
Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by tommarnk
07/06/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
this would be a big jump, if dell add "DVI out" on all dell laptops, so people can connect to there LCD Displays or LCD HDTVs natively
the picture quality will be grealy improved
this should be easy to do as most of new chipsets has dvi out
not many laptop manufacturers add "dvi out" to there lower end products, so it might be a wise move to do so
all LCD monitors and lcd hdtvs has dvi or hdmi in so it might work well
and meybe remove the old VGA out and put a singel DVI-I, it can be used as analog (VGA) to, by using VGA-to-DVI-I adapter like tose used on
standard computer graphic cards for years now
many people like me connect monitor via dvi or hdmi to get the best picture and color quality
The offerings for the XPS M1730: Dual-link DVI-I (support for 30-inch displays) and HDMI via DVI adapter. Check out all the specs for the new systems.
