Trying one out to see what advantages it could offer as an option i found it to be almost an asset or must have.. I know it is available on a few lattitude models and i think one end of life precision workstation but in the consumer line and small buisness lines in isnt available on the new inspiron and vostro line. As a security option this could be used on the desktop models as well which would give a jump over the copitition as well but im thinking more in the lines of the notebooks. I think that turns alot of people away from dell products once they see what kind of security this device can offer.. I think dells decision to put there reader{ Lattide models} on the touchpad area is a good idea so you can opt for having it or not without having major chassis changes so the cost concientous cosumer can order it as an option. I know i have had many people ask within my tech circle of friends , which whom like other manufacturers ,why it is'nt an option and i could'nt defend much there.. Gateway, HP, ect. offer Laptops with numeric kepads, and fingerprint scanners, but Dell does not. I would like to see computers have some new technology added like Fingerprint scanners. Stolen computers are an issue and adding this will create a better level of security. The only downside I can see would be if one person sold the computer to another and didnt reset the scanner.  track my votes
