Sell more desktops without monitors, keyboards, etc Desktops, Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by gordonbrown77 02/16/07 **COMING SOON** Make it an option to not get things people may already have when upgrading a PC such as monitors, mouse, keyboard. This would be good environmentally and save people some money if they already have theae things and will not be keeping the old PC. 35 Comments » "Help Me Choose" is often inaccurate Dell Web Site submitted by davhef 02/17/07 **COMING SOON** Very often the "Help Me Choose" feature does not include the actual items available for that system. Dell Web Site submitted by pwalker 02/02/07 **IN PROGRESS** Noticed you are allowing customers to review some products/services on dell.com. This is an excellent idea since customers depend on peer reviews to make purchase decisions. I believe you should extend this review capability to all products -- it will show you have faith in your products and improve the dell.com experience. The next phase would be to add video reviews. 5 Comments » Make longer lasting batteries for better portability Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by winoffice 05/05/07 **IN PROGRESS**
Don't make us recharge our laptops' batteries so often! A recent Cnet article (posted at Cnet's news site at about May 5, 2007) explains that Windows Vista's Aero Glass feature gives you less battery life. So, if we want Windows Vista, then we either have to recharge more often, or pay extra for more and better batteries! Instead, make Dell get rid of the batteries which quickly lose their charge...and come up with something that would give us longer battery life as follows (under Windows Vista), without making us stay away from Windows Vista or pay an extra $99 for another and better battery. PVC and/or BFR are toxic chemicals used in your current manufacturing processes of Dell. Nokia recently phased out these chemicals and reached number one in the Greenpeace 'electronics guide'. IdeaStorm submitted by lordcobol 10/02/07 **IN PROGRESS**
...to teach the competition what mistakes not to make. Easier way to OPT OUT of Dell selling my private information Advertising and Marketing submitted by ninefoot3 10/17/07 **IN PROGRESS**
I rec'd a brochure yesterday saying Dell and DFS were going to share my private info with other 3rd party companies for marketing purposes. Well, it said that in about 5,000 words or so. At the end is a box stating that I may opt-out of this by calling the number listed or writing a letter (including certain info) and send it to the listed address. Make it better known that you sell Solaris. Advertising and Marketing, Dell, Operating Systems submitted by jmxz 11/13/07 **IN PROGRESS** matt_d from Dell wrote this comment under another Idea Dell does already sell Microsoft Windows versions, several Linux distributions, and yes, even Solaris to some customers. Really? Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that Dell sells Linux workstations you can satisfy most any company's needs in the office/desktop/laptop space. The only reason we'd need to go to any other vendor is for some servers running Solaris (which Sun and IBM are both happy to sell us). At work the low end servers have Linux, but the high end ones are still Sun/Solaris/Oracle.
Making it known that you sell Solaris could go a long way from changing your brand image from "that discount commodity wintel vendor" to "someone serious who can meet all IT needs". Seriously -- while Dell counts for most of our servers (counted by number of servers) Dell probably isn't most of our server-budget because right now we only consider Dell for low-end, cheap servers. If our execs knew you had Solaris on your highest-end servers; that'd be an opportunity in a segment we don't even consider Dell for today. 46 Comments » submitted by danapep Jan 9 **IN PROGRESS**

Do away with 512MB of memory as a base option to buy consumer desktops and notebooks. With Vista running best on 1GB at a minimum, don't make customers have a basic experience with the new OS because Dell wants to be able to advertise at a lower price point. The success of Vista -- and subsequently for Dell -- will be largely in word of mouth. Take a long-term view and build the momentum one great customer experience at a time right now! National Call Centers [and other Service Improvement Ideas] Service and Support submitted by henrieb 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
As a corporate customer I like Dell's products and my USA customer support. I have read the web about all the people that have had problems with Dell customer service and mine and others are not isolated incidences. If you want people to be loyal take a hint from the corporate sales and give Home users even a little customer support. My corporate help does not read scripts, they have the power to take ownership and fix the problem. Granted I do buy Gold support. If Dell thinks it saves money for bad support; I have personally talked 20 or 30 people out of buying a Dell. Show the Vista performance rating during system configuration. People may not realize that Vista gives your computer a performance rating based on several factors (processor, RAM, hard drive and video card). 88 Comments » Dell Community, IdeaStorm submitted by john_saddington 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell should provide a social media site where customers can show other people where they have taken their Dell computer. They should be able to upload pictures as well as link to personal blogs to show others. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by davew 02/18/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Heat rises! Get the exhaust ports off the bottom of the laptops where it just blows back up into the machine. Put them out the side or the top and everything including processors, drives, batteries and the cooling systems themselves will run cooler and more efficiently. I already burned out one mother board, which thankfully was replaced under extended warrantee. I am so protective now that I never use my laptop without a supplemental cooling pad underneath, which blows the air out the sides. Unless this changes I would think twice about buying another or recommending a Dell laptop to anyone else without advising them of the problem. Biodegradable Packing material Environment submitted by ewagnerjr2000 04/19/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
When I received my 32" lcd screen it had an extremely large amount of Styrofoam. Dell is working to be environmentally friendly, maybe they should consider a better packing material at least one that will biodegrade. Advertise Graphics RAM correctly Advertising and Marketing submitted by joffe100 04/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
When we say we want to buy a 512Mb graphics card we really do want a 512Mb graphics card - not 512Mb with 256mb physical memory with 256mb shared! This is really BAD and misleading advertising - you do not see other RAM memory being sold 1Gb (512Mb physical, 512Mb shared!) Environment submitted by tnitchov 05/18/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Offer "green" desktops by doing away with all Optiplex and Dimension case designs, revamp a laptop chassis into a smaller footprint desktop ... replace 3.5" drives with laptop 2.5" drives, and scale down 300+ watt power supplies to the Optiplex 65w capacities of yester-year. track my votes
