Make longer lasting batteries for better portability

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by winoffice 05/05/07 **IN PROGRESS**

Don't make us recharge our laptops' batteries so often! A recent Cnet article (posted at Cnet's news site at about May 5, 2007) explains that Windows Vista's Aero Glass feature gives you less battery life. So, if we want Windows Vista, then we either have to recharge more often, or pay extra for more and better batteries! Instead, make Dell get rid of the batteries which quickly lose their charge...and come up with something that would give us longer battery life as follows (under Windows Vista), without making us stay away from Windows Vista or pay an extra $99 for another and better battery.

Basic laptops: at least 2 1/2 hours battery life
Entertainment laptops: at least 3 1/2 hours battery life
XPS laptops: at least 4 1/2 hours battery life 31 Comments »

KEYBOARDS and TOUCHPADS Enhancements

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by labtroll 03/13/07

Fancy keyboards. A nice plus on laptops and desktops!

Some possible keyboards for both laptops and desktops:
1)BACKLIT Like the Mac Pro (Great when working in low light... not everyone can type without looking)
2)LCD/OLED Customizable Keys (even if its just a few for custom keys and launching)

Touchpad:
1) Back-Lit Touchpad (LCD and customizable would be the best!)
2) Vista's handwriting recognition is great (one of the few features I felt really improved) Touchpad area can double as writing pad with special pen.

I Will pay extra for it!

Lastly:
Combine keyboard and Touchpad for the Media center keyboards! no space.. leave the keypad out and use a touchscreen keypad/touchpad combo. Expensive... so are the High end Media Centers. What's an extra $50-$75 for a real media center keyboard. Comment »

Laptop Alarm

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 06/22/07

Make an alarm for laptops that makes them beep like buggery if anyone tries to move them or access them without the proper permisions.

(please note this seems to be an original idea! not a bloody duplicate like all the rest) 16 Comments »

Ordering on-line or on the phone

Service and Support submitted by bc45238 08/03/07

I recently placed an order for ink for my printer. I first went into the web sight but cancelled the order when you asked for my social security number to place the order. I then called on the telephone and again I was asked for my social security number. Do you not realize that giving out your social security number is a dangerous thing to do. Most places will settle for the last 4 digits, however, you insist on having the full number. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!! Unless you change your methods of security for an order I will be forced to purchase a different printer, one which I can go to a store and purchase my supplies. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR YOU TO INSIST ON PEOPLE GIVING OUT THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER TO THE MULTITUDE OF PERSONNEL YOU HAVE WORKING FOR YOU AS THEY COULD POSSIBLY COMMIT IDENTIFY FRAUD. AND I AM NOT WILLING TO GIVE IT OUT THE NEXT TIME I NEED SUPPLIES. I will check it out and if you still insist on the entire SS#, I will stop dealing with Dell. Thank you. Backlit Keyboards

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by rarmasu 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option.

I would actually pay extra for that convenience if the option was available.
This could be done for desktops or notebooks.
