Wicked fast XPS Core i7 Laptop! By renovak,  Feb 28, 2009

Word is the quad-core Intel Core i7 processor will be adapted for laptops in the latter part of 2009.  Dell absolutely needs to capitalize on this development by offering the i7 processor in its XPS line of laptops.  The price needs to be kept well-below the current price of Dell's quad-core Precision M6400, which starts at $3500.

DELL/ Status Update

This is Partially Implemented as the mobile Core i7 processors being available in the Studio line of laptops

I suspect this will be the second line of Studio XPS laptops since the Studio XPS desktops currently use those Core i7 Processors.

One thing I would do when this comes out is look at having a Studio XPS 18 (18.4" laptop) that would more easily handle such processors.

Or they could offer the much cheaper Q9000 option in their current laptop and beef up the CPU cooler.

The Q9000 and Q9100 processors should both be offered on the Studio XPS Laptops.  HP is now offering the Q9000 in some of their 17" laptops and both the Q9000 and Q9100 (along with the QX9300) in their 18.4" HDX model.

Though the XPS line appars to have died a lonely death, at least this idea has been partially implemented with the mobile Core i7 processors being available in the Studio line of laptops.  Although why they were put into the Studio line before the higher-end Studio XPS line is strange.  Anyhow, close enough!  I'm satisfied.

They are, but the only one so far where that is done on the Studio 17 only has a Dell 1397 Wireless G card available and NOT the Intel 5300 Wireless card that I think would be more important.
