I guess the edit button is gone now. Can't fix my screwed up image html. Sorry about that. Also notice the exposed wires going up into the monitor.

I haven't had these problems. But I do have a strange intermittent repeating key problem. I haven't been able to figure out if it's hardware or software related.

Just looked at those pictures. I can't say I'd be so forgiving. I would have sent it back.

Have you talked to dell tech support about this? Dell typically has fixes for known issues or defects.

Dell should try hiring some quality control people. There are just to many defects and non working pc`s coming out. My question would be.
Is this happening at a particular manufacturing plant and in what country. Are the employees properly trained or are there other problems.

I think poorly built systems like the one in the picture are the result of over worked plants. Remember Dell has serious problems meeting demand. I'll bet there's a rampant "meet targets first, think about quality later" culture in Dell factories. I'll also bet Dell aren't producing blade servers and racks with bits falling off them.

Data CDs are more susceptible to scratches and cracks though. I think it's actually they way the OS handles the CD that causes problems.

aikiwolfie, does your m1330 have a gap on the left side, as in the picture of mine?
Anyway, I don't really worry about the covers too much, because they're not what's holding everything together, and if superglue fixes it, great. If the monitor had stuck pixels or the palm rest was dented, then I'd send mine back, but gluing covers back on is pretty easy, and that's all they do in the factory. My m1330 was built in Malaysia.

Nope. The only thing wrong with my M1330n is an intermittent repeating key problem. Sometimes when typing I get a big line of gggggggg. I haven't been able to figure out if it's Ubuntu or the hardware. Something similar happened once with my desktop, which is why I doubt my first instinct that it was the hardware.

It always feels good to get your own experiences validated by finding other people having experienced similar. I'm sorry not to Google around on 1330 issues before placing my first order. No I've tried two XPS1330's and both failed to meet my expectations of detail quality. And, actually, I agreed on trying a third 1330 after filing my second complaint. However, after Easter holidays I will call Dell Customer service and claim my money back. Both the 1330's have shown detail quality issues such as the weblink pictures in Hoodedthing's 18 March comment. Such as misaligned panels, loose panels, dented aluminium topcovers, hinge gaps et c.The second 1330 also seemd to have problems with the graphics....
Surfing on different forums with XPS threads gives me a feeling that Dell really doesn't seem to care to get a grip and get rid of the Q problems, which is a shame since the general design is attractive with nice performance in a handy format.

I think the problem is more likely quality control rather than the actual keyboard design it's self.

ok, I'm start feels worry. I'm planning to buy XPS M1130 to replace my Thinkpad. One of major concern that I heard a lot problem about the quality, and I don't find out any respond from Dell about this.
Is there any improvement? And by the way, I just saw the real XPS M1330 (before that I was see in the internet, not physically) and somehow I didn't like these plastic (with silver color), It's make M1330 such a cheap one notebook. Is there any consideration to re-design these?

Are you talking about the hinge covers? The bulk of the XPS is aluminum so far as I can tell and I have one.
