Begin using SSD flash memory on laptops and axe moving parts to eliminate noise and reduce power consumption and boot times By matthewmason,  Feb 19, 2007

Flash memory will take off soon if Dell would take a supply-side approach and begin offering solid state disk as an alternative to the conventional hard drive. We would all appreciate the reduced boot time.

While SSD may currently be limited to tablet PCs and military applications, perhaps Dell could use a hybrid drive in the interim to allow for superior seek times, suspend-to-disk time, and power management. Additionally, in the meantime, publish noise statistics and decibel ratings.

Also, to eliminate noise and reduce power consumption, do away with the hard drive and fan in regular Dell laptops. These may be the first steps to a green, or at least greener, PC.
