The problem here is that it WILL cause customer relations headaches for Dell. You'd be surprised how many people want to keep using their AT keyboard & 640x480 monitors. Many new pcs dont even have PS2 ports anymore, or have gone to DVI only & so youd need an adapter for your old D-SUB monitor.
Grandma will gladly keep using her old monitor and keyboard in order to save $10... and then spend HOURS on tech support lines trying to understand why her blueberry imac isnt a monitor.
Its just not worth it, just take the dell kb & mouse & put it in a closet somewhere, donate it to charity, whatever. Dell has very good reasons for including them with EVERY pc.
But we've already proposed the idea that on the Dell website you should be able to either buy the default pc, customise basic options, or really customise it in every conceivable detail. If you go for the last option, there's absolutely no way in hell you're going to misunderstand the connections like that. Again, another reason for Dell to provide much, much greater detail about each computer to those who want to see it.
But, PS2 ports?? When did they get phased out? :-( :'( I've never seen a pc without them and I hope I never will damn frankly! How on God's Earth else are you supposed to plug the keyboard and mouse in??

HP and compaq both have systems that have no PS2 port, or one only. I cant speak for dell, ive not messed with any of their desktop stuff. Also most laptops only have one ps2 port if they have one at all.

Agree, i don't want a mouse, i dont need a keyboard.
i already have these, i dont want to pay the extra 10$ and it'd be a bonus point for dell on the greenpeace chart.
please give us this option on ALL pcs
Hi. What is the status of this idea? are we going to have this option(s) soon? At the moment I would buy a Dell desktop - but I do not do it because i don't want an extra monitor. Thanks
This is very important issue - almost everyone I know now has an lcd monitor and don't need/want another, even if it is larger. The ability to buy a desktop without monitor for $200 less would be very attractive.
Thank you! It's especially annoying to have to get a new keyboard and mouse every time I buy a computer--I feel guilty that all that new plastic is being created just so I can chuck the old ones.
They should be optional everywhere. It's the only valid option.
The specific sales configurations always ends up to restrict the choice. In fact, instead of increasing the sales, it's reduce them and generates customers frustration (like thetrichotomic barrier).

We already offer some sales configurations without a monitor. I have not seen one excluding a keyboard and mouse.
